Fear, Horror and Madness checks

Mar 12, 2005 10:41:31 Any chance someone can tell me the 2nd edition rules for fear, horror and madness checks as I'd love to run a 2nd ed Ravenloft campain but I've only ever been able to get hold of the 3rd edition campaign book.

I am pretty sure they have ye olde Ravenloft set as a pdf download. IOf memory serves, they charge some 5 USD for each PDF copy.

Mar 13, 2005 11:02:30 Fear and Horror check rules can be found in every edition of the Ravenloft campaign setting--the original Realm of Terror box, the Revised Campaign Setting box, or the Domains of Dread hardcover.

Madness checks were a slightly later addition, introduced in the module RQ2 Thoughts of Darkness. They were reprinted in the Forbidden Lore expansion set, and folded into the core in the Revised Campaign Setting and Domains of Dread.

EDIT: Note that while the first two versions use the paralysis/poison/death magic column for the saves, Domains of Dread introduces new saving throw columns for all three for each class group. Still, if you have the 3E rules, you can get by with using the PPDM save as your baseline--the modifiers and effects are generally the same across editions.
