Fighting Men included Elves, Dwarves, and Hobbits.
Magic-users included Men and Elves.
Clerics were limited to Men only.

Elves could switch back and forth between being FIghting Men or Magic-users, but not during an adventure.

The "Greyhawk" supplement introduced Paladins as a Fighting Man subclass, and Thieves. The "Blackmoor" supplement introduced Monks as a Cleric sub-class, and Assassins as a Thief sub-class.

Strategic Review/Dragon had Ranger, Illusionist, and Bard in early 1975-76 issues.
