I'm curious about the content of this book? What does it conatin? How does it differ from Deities and demi-gods? Does it have non-human deities and, if so, is it expanded from D&D?

Legends and Lore (1e) is very much worth it. I have it and it contains very many pantheons (including a lot of nonhuman deities, but not complete pantheons). It also has other mythological things, like the knnights of the round table. It features the gods from Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser (and their stats as well).

It goes as far as Finnish pantheons, Summerian, Chinese, Japanese, Native American etc. etc. pantheons.

Yeah, it is one of the best 1E books out there.

The 1st Ed was definitely worth it! Thank goodness that it's still available to download! Yes, I made the mistake of selling ALL of my 1st Ed stuff when I was going through my "I'm too old to play games" phase. Geez, how deep in denial was I?

Is this the one with Egyptian and Celtic pantheons, as well as every King Arther/Camelot figure converted into D&D characters?

If so, then yes. The book is definitely worth it.

What book has the banned Cthulu characters? I have that book too.

Legends and Lore (2e): Not worth it. Ignore it in favor of earlier editions. There were a few new spells, but the info in other books was clearer and much more useful.

IMHO, Dieties and Demi-gods was the best of these general pantheon books. Later re-prints, excuse me, "revised editions" left out entire pantheons (Melnibonean, Cthulu).

There are 3 1E AD&D God-books

Deities and Demigods WITH Cthulu and Melnibonean Mythos.
144 pages. Value: $30 in VG condition (50$+ for Mint)

Deities and Demigods, without Cthulu and Mel. 128 pages.
Value: Not Much - $8 in VG condition

Legends and Lore - identical contents to the 128 page DDG, but with different cover art. Again, $8 in VG condition.

If you want a nice collection, save your pennies and get the 144 page DDG off ebay. You may have to wait a long while to get one at the right price.

If you just want a DDG, buy the 128 page one which can be bought for a few bucks.

The only reasons to buy L&L is if you really dont like Erol Otus' DDG cover (in which case you are a tasteless pinhead), or if you are a completist collector.
