| #1zombiegleemaxSep 07, 2003 14:16:18 | Because i deleted the first post,will you please stop calling me a troll? |
| #2zombiegleemaxSep 07, 2003 15:19:30 | no it will never die because it will live forever in our hearts :D |
| #3greylordSep 07, 2003 16:52:54 | Along those same lines... They really should let the writings of Shakespeare vanish, afterall, no new ones are being written, and there's newer snazzier stuff that uses much more current english. Definately need to destroy all that Shakespeare stuff. In addition, they really should destroy any biplanes left. Afterall, we have much more current propellor/props out, and jets are much more up to date. (I don't believe any of that, if anyone doesn't understand what I'm doing, just for the note). |
| #4solarisSep 07, 2003 17:13:48 | Originally posted by one winged angle Why? A "should" really needs a reason.
And that's not a reason. The fact that they aren't made anymore has no bearing on the usefulness of the copies that already exist.
I'm sorry: is my playing of older editions somehow interfering with your ability to play newer editions? |
| #5zombiegleemaxSep 07, 2003 17:41:09 | Originally posted by Solaris okay i know someone, somewere is insulted by the post.it's just i think the old edition needs to be retiered that is all.it's okay to play the old,but they need to move over for the new editions. |
| #6Kaya_KenobiSep 07, 2003 17:55:22 | Originally posted by one winged angle I have played all of the DnD editions, and personally... I sense a TROLL HERE! Where'd my troll sign go? |
| #7stonebeardSep 07, 2003 20:01:41 | Originally posted by one winged angle Sorry, but I hate you anyway. |
| #8solarisSep 07, 2003 22:19:57 | Originally posted by one winged angle Well, they don't make it anymore - isn't that retired enough? it's okay to play the old,but they need to move over for the new editions. So you're saying "it's okay to play the old editions, but people shouldn't play the old editions" ? And if the old editions need to move over for the new editions, then I have to ask: How are the old editions in the way? Why do they need to "move over"? In short, what the hell are you talking about? How does someone playing an old edition of D&D have anything at all to do with anyone playing a new edition? And why would you even care? How about this: I still play Zork and Space Invaders. If that somehow ruins your enjoyment of Neverwinter Nights and Unreal Tournament, then you have a serious problem, and it's you who needs to adjust, not me. Same with the D&D. |
| #9realmasterSep 07, 2003 22:38:41 | I have played AD&D since 1980 and still going strong on the weekends. :D I play D20 Versions but AD&D is and will always be #1 to me. |
| #10BedfordSep 07, 2003 22:41:36 | Let people reminence if they want. Just as long as I can play d20, that's fine with me. |
| #11Kaya_KenobiSep 08, 2003 1:14:05 | Originally posted by Bedford I DM a 3.0 game. And another DM runs a ADnD game. I will play in both because it's still DnD. Just my 2 cp. |

| #13zombiegleemaxSep 08, 2003 10:45:41 | Please tell me what the purpose of this thread is one winged angel because all its doing is infuriating people. If you go around saying "hey let the old editions die and play the new ones" people who have played 2nd or 1st since the '80s arnt going to suddenly stop because a troll told them to, and yes you are a troll and if you look at the code of conduct you will find the definition of troll. Keep stuff like this to your self, you are allowed your opinion but dont put it in the old edition boards. |
| #14zombiegleemaxSep 08, 2003 17:29:46 | Originally posted by one winged angle Silly, silly boy...you should never, EVER, forget where you came from...without those "outdated" editions you wouldn't have your 3.5 to play...I have played all editions (starting with the original basic set in the purple box with the Errol Otus artwork...any of you other old timers remember that one;) ) and while I do enjoy 3.5 I do occasionally have a game of AD&D because it is FUN...Silly, silly boy |
| #15zombiegleemaxSep 08, 2003 21:39:56 | Hey I just started a 2e game....oh well I guess I am retired (where's my check?) or out moded. Either that or one winged angel is and Idiot. You make the call. |
| #16zombiegleemaxSep 09, 2003 1:29:11 | Stop feeding the Troll folks, it only makes him bigger. I know it's hard but show some restraint: focus, find your center and refuse him, no matter what he says. ... There, isn't that better? :D |
| #17zombiegleemaxSep 09, 2003 2:33:40 | ohm...ohm...ohm...ohm...yeah, that's better...thanks:D |
| #18zombiegleemaxSep 10, 2003 7:58:52 | Hey I'll let go of my first edition AD&D book when they pry my cold dead fingers off it..... I have all, yep all, of the AD&D Core 1st Edition Hardbacks, including Manual of the Planes, and Oriental Adventures. So why shell out on 2nd or 3rd Edition, when I could just buy into a different system for variation. Personally I prefer 1st Edition as I know exactly how many books I am going to have to shell out for and what crazy suppliments a player will turn up to the table with. NONE - Its free for me to play (I have an extensive collection of modules, campigns as well). Now if only someone would reprint the original Bloodstone series I could die a happy man, mine vanished and got broken up over the years. |
| #19zombiegleemaxSep 10, 2003 8:30:43 | read my sig.:D |
| #20zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2003 16:07:42 | Hey question on your sig....Seems that Gary Gygax wrote the 1e AD&D books so shouldn't they be classified as a true game....? |
| #21ZardnaarSep 13, 2003 22:53:21 | Originally posted by dogstar One of my old players buried his friend with his DnD books. They half jokingly regreted it as with hindsight they wanted the old books back. I like d20 alot better than 1st,2nd or DnD basic but I can't bring myself to let go of my old books. If someone said "wanna play 2nd ed " I probably would. |
| #22Kaya_KenobiSep 14, 2003 0:38:07 | Originally posted by Zardnaar I enjoy 3e, but I won't pass up an offer to game, even if it was in ADnD terms.. ;) |
| #23zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2003 7:11:00 | I'm a newbie, so to speak... having only started roleplaying long after AD&D 2nd Edition was well in-swing, but far before 3e was ever dreamed up, back when TSR was still doing (relatively) well. To be frank, while I do appreciate that RPGs are being made more universal, easier to run in terms of standarized math and what all... I've found that any system can be a wonderful experience. It just takes a great DM and a great bunch of players. The only thing a system offers is familiarity (or change), and ease of use (or more frequent hiccups). I'm happy to hear that folks are still out there using the early editions. There's nothing wrong with them. Hell, I've ran in-depth roleplaying sessions using Heroquest for Christ's sake. ;) Or to an even greater extreme, I've actually run good campaigns in Rifts. Even though, looking at it as a system, that would seem to be impossible. ![]() In other words, just let folk play what they want to play. On the flipside of the coin, even meant jokingly, seeing sigs like "D&D is the only real RPG, all others are weak imitations" or whatever it was... well, it just sours my stomach. I understand that it might be meant jokingly, but... |

| #25alrunic_silverfyreSep 14, 2003 11:07:38 | I'll quit playing ADnD when the educational system teaches these kids how to spell correctly and word a sentence properly. I am not about to let go of my ADnD or DnD 1.0 books. I may play 3.5 now with our formerly ADnD group but we have a heavily modified house rule version of the game that relies on a lot of ADnD rules. Don't forget your roots people. |
| #26samsaelSep 14, 2003 12:17:49 | I don't know who's stupider, the one who started this thread, or all the people who wasted time picking his post apart in an effort to disprove an already weightless bit of nonproductive babble. |
| #27zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2003 13:47:59 | Originally posted by samsael But its so fun. |
| #28stonebeardSep 14, 2003 14:49:10 | Originally posted by samsael I have to disagree, if stuff like this has to come up (and we all know it does come up) is it not better to do so in a private thread than in the middle someone else's discussion where the point is actually being sidetracked? Here this sort of thing causes no harm to anyone who doesn't waste his/her time clicking into it. In short if You don't like reading this... why are you reading it? |
| #29zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2003 17:49:01 | Originally posted by Kaya Kenobi I am going to say it once,I AM NOT A TROLL!I want people to stop calling me that, please. |
| #30zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2003 18:49:45 | Originally posted by one winged angle See your first post in this thread.....TROLL! |
| #31Kaya_KenobiSep 14, 2003 19:08:15 | Originally posted by one winged angle Then don't start flame wars or bait other posters into such a thing. If you weren't trolling you would have posted this in another board and you would have used more tact. |
| #32wizardSep 14, 2003 22:02:05 | Originally posted by Zardnaar He didn't...did he? Really? C'mon---did he? And yeah. I started playing D&D back when 3e had just come out and 2e was on the decline. And now I play 3.5. So yeah, I guess I "moved over" the old editions to make playing time for the new. But WHO CARES? I could just have easily typed: I've played D&D 1e since 1975 (I don't know the actual date, so grognards, please stay quiet) and have never allowed myself to look at an edition later than that---or even an errata. I don't know what this "sorcerer" class is all about on these boards, but I refuse to up(down?)grade! 1E ALL THE WAY! The point is, you haven't the faintest idea which of those paragraphs is true (well--I hope you do, actually). But if I hadn't posted, you would have had NO FEEL for whether I play 1e, 2e, 3.0 or 3.5. Hence, it doesn't affect you. So be silent. |
| #33ZardnaarSep 15, 2003 2:34:49 | Yep appaerently its true. His parents didn't approve of him playing and my ex players were amoung the last to see the coffin. They snuck a 1st ed players handbook into the coffin and he was buried with it. I suppose they could have lied but I see no reason for them to do so and the way they talked about it- nostalgia. They're amoung the last 1st ed players I know they don't play it much but every now and then the books come out. |
| #34mr._vandermeerSep 15, 2003 4:15:33 | One Winged Angle, maybe it is a good idea to change your first post. I know now that you didn't want to troll, but people still think you do because of that first post. You can push the 'edit' button at the bottom of the post and then you can change the text. And to the rest of you, stop calling him a troll. He didn't mean it like that. And he is very much improving. He's using capital letters and all. So be nice and give him a chance.:D |
| #35zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2003 8:03:02 | Ah you are so kind, and right. Its not that bad a start, lets face it in anyother hobby he probably would be quite correct (would you still be playing silent hill 1 refusing to play 2 and 3). Of course its different, we are roleplayers, reknown for being both picky, pedantic and most importantly anachronistic. |
| #36greylordSep 15, 2003 17:43:57 | Originally posted by dogstar Actually a better comparison would be (would you still be playing the Baldurs Gate seris refusing to play Neverwinters Nights). Actually, perhaps we should say...(would you still be playing BG1 and 2, refusing to play Baldurs Gate:Dark Alliance). That they don't is understandable. Some do, but they are very different games. |
| #37zombiegleemaxSep 17, 2003 14:02:26 | This thread is as dead as Zardnaar's friend, but I just wanna pop in and say one thing: I started gaming full time when Ad&D 2E was in full swing (1993-ish). That's all I ever knew. I was born and bred on that stuff. Around 2000, gaming was temporarily exstiguished on my block. But, out of curiousity, years later I copped some of the new 3E books. It took me a while to learn the rules (self-taught), but once I did: I COMPLETELY FORGOT HOW TO PLAY 2E! Fo real! That stuff is just GONE from my cranium! Thac0? BendBars/Lift Gates? Saving Throw vs. Death Ray? WTF? HOW can you players keep 1E, 2E, 3E and 3.5E rules in your head all at the same time!? It's not hard to play 3.5 on mon, 1E on tues and then 2E on Wed? Damn, that's alot of memorization! LOL peace, MSD |
| #38eclavdraSep 17, 2003 18:10:36 | Originally posted by one winged angle I try to read these boards everyday, but I missed this! All I can say is go back to your puter games... Troll ![]() |
