Aug 12, 2005 22:43:52 Hello. I am looking for the D&D Basic Set (4th edition, red box) and the D&D Expert Set (4th edition, blue box) and also a few modules for them (Isle of Dread, or whatever). I have looked on most of the OOP sticky thread websites and am coming up empty, except for torn up, missing books or downloads only. If anyone has these and would like to get rid of them I would be willing to pay a fair price. I have found that 3.5 rules are a bit cumbersome and I would like to be prepared to intro the kids to D&D at about the same age that I was. Fond memories and whatnot. So if you own or know where I could get these....much appreciated.

Aug 14, 2005 20:12:12 I tried rpgnow and all the others on the oop sticky thread and, as I stated they either do not have them or they have them and are missing important pieces or, as in the case of rpgnow, they are only available as downloads. I would like to have the boxes and books.

Aug 15, 2005 9:48:01 Noble Knight Games and eBay are both good sources. You may need to hunt for a while on eBay though.

You may also be able to find the Rules Cyclopedia, which contains pretty much everything classic D&D wise

Aug 16, 2005 0:04:07 The problem w/Noble Knight and its online OoP equivalents are, that if you want actual hard-copies...your going to pay what you would for the current edition book($30)or more. The only exception may be the core sets. The Gazetteers are VERY expensive, especially considering how many were released. The same can be said about Ebay in regards to cost.

Aug 16, 2005 11:44:52 D&D products produced from ~1980 to ~1985 are cheap and easily available in hard copy. This includes the 1981 and 1983 Basic and Expert sets, the first 5 B-modules, and the first 5 X-modules. As TSR increased the number of products they produced for D&D in the late 80's and into the 90's they dramatically decreased their print runs. This is why B2 Keep on the Borderlands can be bought for a fraction of the price that many of the GAZ's can, even though it's 10 years older. B2 was printed in the millions, the GAZ's in the 10's of thousands.

You should be able to find a copy of the Basic and Expert sets on ebay for around $10 each. You should be able to buy most adventuers from the early 80's for less than $10 each.

Aug 16, 2005 15:27:24 I found the info provided by R.A. and BpM to be valuable to me and want to say thanks. I ordered a Cyclopedia from noble knight(even though they didn't have the basic set 4th edition) and several modules from E-bay. Thanks again for replying to what I wrote.

Aug 19, 2005 4:16:21 No problem at all. Enjoy the Rules Cyclopedia. IMO, its the best introduction to Od&d. Very self contained and 'ready to go'. Let us know how things work out and what you think of it.
