Instead, characters get a stat increase at every even level (instead of every four levels) and a feat at every odd level. I am already employing a portion of this. Treasure is reduced 10 - 15% but I give players a feat at every odd level. permanent ability score boosting item can still be had but are very rare and I have my own little program that calculates a percentage of rarity. I do not give stat increases at every even level. |

Then you'd give those bonuses for free to the low magic character. For a sword-and-boarder this worked out to roughly +1 AC per level, +1d6 damage per level starting at level 11, +2 to two stats every 5 levels, and +1 to saves per level starting at level 11. Also an extra haste attack at level 10. A shieldless character would get less AC (3/4x? I forget) and a slightly faster progression in everything else. Plus he has more damage from other things even w/o these bonuses. A TWFer has a slower damage progression (~2/3x I think). You could have seperate bonuses that only apply based on whether the player is SABing, THFing or TWFing. For a skillmonkey you'd have to give some skill boosts. Check out armor enchantments and wondorous items. Maybe he could choose from among certain skill boosts (the same ones that items could give). For a caster you'd have to replace scrolls, meta-magic rods, level 1 pearls of power and other spell stuff. Attribute bonuses would be the same, and AC progression would be even slower. Perhaps each level you could give him his choice of a certian number of low level 1 time use spells and use per day spontaneous metamagic. |
