What are some of the RPG game systems that came out in the 1980's and 1990's? Also, I am trying to track down the name of a now well out of print RPG game that I think came out in the 80's that was kind of like gammaworld, set in a post apocalyptic earth, I know it was not Twilight 2000.

Apr 25, 2007 20:13:25 What game system didn't come out in the '80s? To your first question anyway more than I can count or spend time typing. If you have heard of it it came out in the '80s. Your second question could it be Shadowrun?

Apr 26, 2007 1:41:58 Anyone remember a space-based game. The only thing I can really remember about it was that monesy was called "secs" - which being 10 (1980) I found highly amusing

I remember there were starships you had to build and/or comandeer - possibly an Elite-type RPG. I'm sure it wasn;t a dream!

They also made Star Trek game, as well as Earthdawn.
Rifts - produce by paladium.
They also made, heroes unlimited, TMNT, and I believe Robotech.
All there games were compatable, and could easily be converted to
AD&D.
GURPS
White Wolf the storyteller system d10 based.

Search through this web site you maybe able to find it. It has RPGs listed by the year they came out also.

It wasn't: Tales of the Floating Vagabond by chance was it.

That one had real silly abilities, like bealch for effect. Fire big gun, swing from things, Rambo effect. Etc.

I just found my old copy of TSR's Boot Hill. I really preferred 'Desperadoes' for an Old West game.

I've also got "Castle Falkenstein" and, I think, all of the subsequent books associated with it. Also I have "Theatrix", "GBI", "Amber" and "Aria". I do believe that "Aria" is unplayable. Anybody who thinks 3e is overloaded with rules and details should give "Aria" a look.

Ah! You're right! It was a module, wasn't it? Warning, everyone! That was a gamer's "senior moment"! Star Frontiers, didn't enjoy it as much as D&D.

Oh, I almost forgot one called "Metaspace", and another one that's apparently based off a graphic novel or something called "Metabarons".

I've also got "Pendragon" and "Ars Magica", which my husband, ever a fan of British English, calls "Arse Magica". Used to have "Runequest", too.

Killer? Wasn't that the one where people had to take each other out in real world settings with things like water pistols, "bombs" that was a box of paper scraps above a door etc? We played that at uni a few times and really enjoyed it. I remember someone assassinating someone with banana gun then eating the evidence. Ahh those were the days...

Jun 12, 2007 16:54:33 I just found another one of my old, obscure ones. It was a totally goofball thing called "Murphy's World". I also used to have one similar, but in a darker vein called "HOL".

I preferred HOL to Murphy's World for the couple of times we played it. HOL stands for Human Occupied Landfill. You adventured (or just tried not to lose your reason for living) on a planet that was a dump. (Wasn't that the premise for Universal Soldier, or some movie like that?). You had to contend with landslides of loaded diapers and other disgusting stuff while facing the fact that the only symbol of hope and faith was the Church of the Spork. If I recall the padre correctly, he's probably the last person in the universe you'd want to have place any hope in, but there's not much choice in this dark humor game.

We still use HOL in the sci-fi segment of our game. It's not a planet you want to have to make an emergency (or any kind) landing on.

Jul 01, 2007 18:13:31 I just dug up out of the closet "Kult" and "In Nomine". Also sitting on the shelf are "Earthdawn" and "Alternity". Somewhere, I've seen the box to "Gammarauders", and I'm sure I have some old "Car Wars" or "Auto Duel" books. We used to use Micromachines as our cars in that game. Hee hee! I still have all of my Micromachines and most of my Hot Wheels!

The rattlesnakes hated us...
