Greetings fellow Forum goers,

I was doing research for my campaign, and am trying to find alternatives to the Paladin for other races. Wikipedia says that dragon magazine has listen several over the years, and I am really interested in getting ahold of these articles, as well as any homebrew ideas that you have concocted.

I'm more interested in the fluffy RP bits than the Crunchy mechanical bits, though where possible I'd like to acquire both. I'm not concerned with the System (2nd ed, 3rd ed) because I'm currently in the (slow) process of converting from 2nd to 3rd ed and can modify and adapt where necessary.

If you know any lists of issues of dragon or other published material where the Alternative Paladins are listed, I would be most appreciative if you could pass that information on so I could look it up, and if you have any home brews...well...of course I'm interested!!

Thank you so much!! Cheers.

Well... I don't know about paladins of other -races- but Unearthed Arcana (3e/3.5e) does have paladin variants. More based on alignment.
And, the visual examples they used were drow and (I think...) minotaur, and another I can't remember, which is an "other race" way of looking at it, I suppose. Don't have the books on me right now, sorry, just going by memory.
Hope that helps.

The variants were paladins of slaughter (CE) freedom (CG) and tyranny (LE) these were variants to the LG paladin.

Now back to the paladins, I belive any race that can have a cleric/fighter for split class should be able to have a holy warrior of their god, i.e. a paladin.

The Paladin's Handbook has some info on demi-human paladins, though only of the common PC races.

I do appreciate that. Thank you very much. This does help quite a bit.

Are Anti-Paladins supposed to be CE or LE? I've read descriptors of it that say both.

Anti-Paladins are Chaotic Evil, though an old issue of Dragon Magazine did detail a LE variant that was pretty scary. I can't remember what they called it though.

Aw sweet!!

I was talking to my friend about my search for other race paladins, and he mentioned a 'Dwarven Defender' or some such, and said there was an Elf paladin in some dragon magazine, but he couldn't remember which. That sucks, because I'm Elf crazy.

The 2nd edition DMG said that before making paladins available for other races to determine how they would be different based on the difference in racial culture. To be fair, I think it is appropriate to distinguish even in Human cultural differences, like an Oriental Pali would be different from an Arab Pali from the European Paladin.

My Mum told me that the Elf version of the Paladin is the Ranger. I think that is reasonable, except that Humans can be Rangers too, and so it's not fair to the Elf who is more suited to the woods than the Rangers are and get very little bonuses over a Human.

Does anyone have any ideas for other concepts of Paladins if they don't knowof any published material on them?

The usual 2e list involves the Paladin's Handbook, and also the Saurials. The only 1e demihuman Paladin I know of is the Silvanesti in the Dragonlance Handbook.

Failing that, DM fiat.
