| #1zombiegleemaxFeb 14, 2004 23:47:48 | i have a queston about a character that i came across in adventure that we are on right now and i was wondering if it was possible. To make a long story short. We came across acouple of NPC that were chained up in a cavern. Anyway one of them was a Female Drow and as my Female Centaur cleric was talking to her she keep saying that she would become a PC and help the party anyway that she could, so my Cleric freed her. Anyway as we were going through here stats and writing them down we found that she had some 1st lvl druid spells and it said that she was 3rd lvl fighter. So we are assuming that she is a 3rd lvl Druid/Fighter. The problem is that everything we have says that Elves can not be Druids, But they can be clerics and druids are a sub-class of clerics. The books that we have are: Players Hand, DMG, and Unearth Arcanea. All early edition, and the module is a 2nd Editoin AD&D. So we want to know if there is somewhere that it says that this is a possible multi-class or if i have to just play her as a fighter. |

| #3zombiegleemaxFeb 15, 2004 2:55:08 | From page 9 of the Druids Handbook: "The AD&D Original Edition Unearthed Arcana reference book allowed elves to become druids. Only sylvan elves may achieve druidhood, perhaps in remote areas such as lost islands or other worlds. Sylvan elf druids can reach 12th level (like regular clerics) and can take the Herbalist kit from The Complete Book of Elves pgs. 83-84. They always fall under the forest druid branch. Interested players might develop a druid-like priest kit for an elf, such as the halflings's Leaftender. Though drow cannot become druids, half-drow (like all half-elves) can; these almost always become gray druids." It does state on pg. 8 that any other races are at the DM's descretion, and should be worked out carefully. So in theory you could be a fighter/druid, if your DM lets you. Drizzit is a ranger, and elves can't be rangers (by the rules). He also is way higher than non-humans are supposed to be as rangers. Anything is possible, IF your DM allows it. There isn't anything to stop you from making her a fighter/cleric however, and some of the spells that clerics use are the same or similar to druid spells (some are even better), so that might be an option if your DM doesn't allow the druid. Note: Check out the specialty priest of Eilistraee. They're pretty cool. You can find them in the Demihuman Deities. |
| #4mock26Feb 15, 2004 6:39:15 | Hey, it's your campaign, allow elven druids. Considering their "love" and closeness to nature, I always thought it extremely stupid that no elves (or only sylvan elves if you are using Unearthed Arcana) could become druids. I always found that rule to be lame. In my campaign I allow elven druids. Drow, though, I would have a problem with, unless she was a drow raised on the surface, or she was a druid of the underdark. But, it is your campaign and you have to do what is right for you, your campaign, and your players. Take care and have a great day.... ciao, john. ![]() |
| #5zombiegleemaxFeb 15, 2004 9:56:28 | Or if he became a mythos priest of a nature god then he'd practically be a druid anyway. |
| #6zombiegleemaxFeb 18, 2004 8:25:07 | D&D publications are suggestions and guidlines meant to be used at the DM's discretion. If you don't like a rule, then leave it out. If you want the Drow female to be a druid, then she IS a druid. End of discussion. ![]() |
| #7zombiegleemaxFeb 20, 2004 0:08:53 | thanks for the input. We decided to go ahead and let her be the D/F. We kinda like the combo, she has some nasty little tricks that she is able to do. She has arleady been able to make in impact in the adventure for the short time that i have had her. And th other gamers don not what to think of her since i'm actually playing this one instead of DM it, so i know a bit more then the other players so i am able to make th DM change his plan on a dime without him even suspecting a thing, and he hates it. The only thing that sucks is the she is limited in MAX lvls but on well she has made a few friends that are going to be able to benefit her and she don't even know it yet. |
| #8Malaki_Cabal_NecromancerFeb 22, 2004 15:10:13 | Rememeber, the rulebooks are only guidelines... |
| #9zombiegleemaxFeb 26, 2004 10:48:38 | You could do all or some of the above, or you can go out and purchase 3.5 ed. rules. The silly restrictions are gone. They will keep the balance, the flavor, and fun. You already are stepping away with your female cenatur cleric. good luck |
| #10zombiegleemaxMar 05, 2004 21:47:50 | Stick with 1e or 2e. 3e:thumbsdow |
| #11zombiegleemaxMar 06, 2004 5:48:57 | add mage to the list of old fuddy duddies with Edge and Wyrm beware the old fuddy duddy!!!!!!!!!!! |
| #12zombiegleemaxMar 06, 2004 12:09:53 | Go troll somewhere else if you don't like someone else's opinions. |
| #13zombiegleemaxMar 06, 2004 16:41:45 | The site talked about a centaur. I suggested going to 3rd ed and playing the game his/her way. You said 3rd ed stinks. You don't agree with me, ok. My opinion is as valid as yours. The person who started this thread is off going in their own direction. That's pretty much it!!!!!!!!! |
| #14zombiegleemaxMar 06, 2004 21:13:59 | This isn't about opinions. This is about your name calling (which is a sure sign of immaturity. Go troll somwhere else if you want to do that. |
| #15zombiegleemaxMar 07, 2004 6:25:26 | I think it's obvious this thread is done. What are we arguing about??? Good luck and Have Fun!!!!!! |
| #16zombiegleemaxMar 10, 2004 20:19:45 | Originally posted by beavis123 Are you working for Wotc ? Why do we should throw out all that money if we can get away with a simple house rule ? Just allow it as a DM and it's ok. And those "silly" restrictions are less "silly" then having every race do every class and everything available, in 3.5 ed. Yeah, the magic-user wearing battle armor, the thief fighting like a real tough fighter, a paladin good in lockpicking... good! That sure ain't silly no ? Anyway, continue to do 3 ed publicity here on OOP forum and I'll follow you at every post. ![]() |

| #21zombiegleemaxMar 17, 2004 16:30:00 | Lord Bloodbringer - I'll chime in with those who advise to treat the rules as guidelines and come up with solutions that work for you. Every edition of the game states that the DM is the final authority - pick up that football and run with it. If this came up in my game I'd eyeball the character for balance and then come up with a bit of backstory, e.g., perhaps your Drow PC was an orphan raised by Druids and returned to the underdark as an adult to find her roots. (Yeah, that was hokey, just a quick example though.) Aside, re the flame war in this thread: What does an OOP board need with 3e troll evangelists? Answer: doesn't need 'em. Who here is going to be converted to 3e thereby? Answer: no one. Why, then, bring such to a board that doesn't need it, with hope of convincing no one? Answer: Can't be any other answer than just to be a pain. Every time I see that avatar that looks like Michael Jackson as a DragonballZ character, I see posts that seemingly magnanimously exhort everyone to have fun, while in actuality the icky warm cloud spreads in our nice clean swimming pool. It's all adult swim, all the time now at DF and GWD - and we'll get it here, too, once the moderators wake up. |
