Hello to everyone... Without getting into an unwarranted flame war over whether or not the Player's Option system, I am trying to find fan-made house rules for generating PCs from the Ravenloft, Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk and/or Krynn (specifically Ansalonian characters).

Google has not been particularly helpful, but I felt it a reasonable chance that with such a varied group of people here, someone may be on another forum or list that might have such material.

As always, thanks in advance to anyone who can help out a bit here.

"Wizened wargamer", and "gaming geezer", since 1981

Ouch! This hurts my feminine vanity! I've been gaming this long!

If my player wants to make a new character, I let them choose the method. Some are happy to deal with what the dice give them, while others have an idea of what they want, so I let them tailor their primary stats (but only their primary stats, such as STR for a fighter). If a person has a very specific character they want to create, it has to be balanced. I won't take all 18s unless we're doing strictly the die rolls and they happen to come up that way (not likely).

I'm very liberal in letting my players design the characters they want. If they want to bring in a famous persona, we get together and hash out the stats, suspending the rules to make the d20 version of the person as close to the RW version of the person as possible.

Hrm... well... though this is handy, it doesn't quite answer my original question. ;)

I've been gaming long enough that I kinda know how to help my gamers make characters. :D

So, back to finding home-brew Player's Option rules for the various TSR settings... Know any good links online where I can find 'em? Google has been less than helpful...

I dont understand what your looking for...

Are you looking for someones houserules on PC creation?

We play FR, and for the most part Players Option is compatible with the setting. The only real exception for us is if a PC is using a Specialty Priest from the Faiths and Avatars book, in which case they use that "stand alone" as a class, so they skip the class section in Players Option.

As usual the DM reserves the right to maintain balance in the game....

That's precisely what I was asking... The Player's Option system has a lot of decent rules for making PCs from a variety of "vanilla" races, but doesn't cover the idiosyncrasies of each setting.

For example, though the CP system allows Minotaurs, Krynnish minotaurs aren't the slavering beasts that they are in most other settings. Likewise Vistani characters in Ravenloft, and generating an elf from the Vale of the Mage in Greyhawk (or a member of the Scarlet Brotherhood, etc).

I know that (in a pinch), I could make these rules up "on the fly" (and I have done so in the past), but it would be good to see what others have done in the past.

I have a felling thats what others have done as well. I think you just need to take things on a case for case basis. What ever setting your playing at the time, be familiar with the core setting as far as whats normal races/classes, and remind players of any restrictions you have during PC generation.

Hmmm... That's what I figured... and here I was, hoping to be lazy and just extrapolate off something someone else has done. Drat and double drat!

:heehee

Well, at least I keep copious notes on the stuff I do come up with, so I can keep things consistent.

I think there may have been at least one Dragon article on using Player's Option character creation in Ravenloft, but I may be confusing an article on Rogues that I know exists with Ravenloft material from around the same issue in my particular collection.
