Q bout dual-wielding

Aug 20, 2006 13:45:42 In the (2nd ed) dual weapon usage rules, it says that you suffer a -2 penalty to main hand and a -4 penalty to the offhand, but this can be adjusted depending on your Dex reaction adjustment.

So if I had a +3 in reaction adjustment, i would have just -1 penalty to my offhand weapon?

It also says that the offhand weapon gotta be smaller. So could I for instance use a long sword and a battle axe?
I know in the weapon table that there is a S,M and a L version for them all but does this mean I can use a M battle axe and a S battle axe?

As for the battle axe you could not use it because it is an M weapon.If you have Combat and Tactics which has a master weapons list you will see that all axes are M apart from two handed axe which is considered a Large weapon.
If you want to hit with no penalty with the two weapons you can spend two weapon proficiencies in two weapon style, or one proficiency slot in two weapon style and one in ambidexterity.All these are from the same book C&T.

As for the battle axe you could not use it because it is an M weapon.If you have Combat and Tactics which has a master weapons list you will see that all axes are M apart from two handed axe which is considered a Large weapon.
If you want to hit with no penalty with the two weapons you can spend two weapon proficiencies in two weapon style, or one proficiency slot in two weapon style and one in ambidexterity.All these are from the same book C&T.

Aug 20, 2006 14:47:21 Each weapon has a size. All two-handed swords made for humans are size large, all longswords size M, all daggers size S.

There is no such thing as a size S battle axe, unless it is a miniaturized version for much smaller than human creatures, with a corrisponding reduction in damage.

Aug 20, 2006 20:45:44 If I remember right, (its been a long time since I've played AD&D2) the two-weapon fighting proficiency from the Fighter handbook permitted you to use two weapons of the same size, as well as reducing the penalty by 2 for each hand.

Being ambidextrous reduced your offhand penalty by 2.

All weapons do different damage to "human" sized things (S/M) or "Big" things (L or larger)

All weapons are assumed to be of constant size - using a human as a reference. So all longswords are medium - there's no such thing as a "Large Longsword" for large creatures, they just use something functionally equivalent to a "two-handed sword" - but one handed.
