| #1zombiegleemaxOct 23, 2003 0:12:57 | Okay, the PH is incredibly vague on the Simulacrum spell. I've got the gist, but have some specific questions... -What creatures cannot be duplicated (i.e., you cannot make a simulacrum of them). Obvious ones include noncorporeal creatures, or creatures without biological bodies (like constructs or undead)...but what about extraplanar creatures? Some demons and devils, for example, have physical--and I presume, biological--bodies...can you make a simulacrum of one of them? -Do simulacrums possess the spell-like powers of the original? If you made a simulacrum dragon, could it breathe fire? Can a simulacrum Firbolg or fairy creature use their spell-like abilities? -The spell says that the simulacrum's level (if any) will be 20-50% of the original. Is this only for level, or for Hit Dice as well? Or will a monster maintain it's original hit dice in simulacrum form? -What ability scores will the simulacrum possess? Same as the original, I assume? -I assume that the simulacrum's proficiencies are among the knowledge it possessess (40-65% of the original). Is there s a decent way of determining exactly what the simulacrum knows? Any answers or insight would be greatly appreciated. |

There were 2 sage advice articles that dealt with simulacrums, but didn't answer my particular questions. Incidentally, I'm talking 2nd edition. I read the 3E version, and if I chose to use it, that does provide some answers...in that version, a sim has half the levels/HD, and has "all the hit points, abilities, skills, and feats you would expect a creature of that type of that level/HD to have". (rough paraphrase). On the other hand, that's a fair shift already...in terms of the HP and knowledge, which differs from the 1E and 2E descriptions of the spell. Also, it says the sim is only a "semi-real" creation, and doesn't mention the use of limited wish and reincarnate in the process. So yeah.... Anyway, thanks. Any additional help is still welcome. I have some ideas of my own, and I was looking for some other opinions to see how they mesh with mine. |
