Currently I am considering the following House rule and want to know if its breakable or useable from the perspective of other DMs and Players. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- If a player or creature is killed by a Death Effect requiring a Save and fails, the character is rendered dead but may be placed into a state of near death if healed with in 3 rounds of failing the save. If creature is not healed within 3 rounds, they are considered dead and require the proper form of resurrection to return to the living. Since the creature is technically dead, effects that would normally automatically heal a creature cease to function and do not automatically trigger the near death state, such as fast healing or Regeneration. Once in the near death state a creature cannot return to battle by any other means short of actually being raised from the dead by normal means. After the end of battle a creature needs 1 hour of rest after which it is returned to living status at -1 hp. --------------------------------------------------------------------- All this accomplishes is it leaves open a 3 round window which keeps the players from having to raise a character or make a new one, if hit by a death effect. Let me know if there is any problems with the wording or something I may need to address within the rules. Also letting me know what you think of the House Rule is nice as well. |

I used to have a houserule (relevant only at high levels where save or dies were used most rounds) that a failed save on a save-or-die dealt 100 damage instead of being an instant kill. Sure made the game more fun, and it made 'save or be neutralized' effects stronger. |

If nothing more pops up here in 2 days, I will probably make a new thread in the new House Rules forum. Thanks for the comment, SirGog, but only doing a 100 points of damage means that harm becomes more powerful then a Save or Die. I would prefer save or dies to remain death effects even if you can get out of them. |
