Rime of the Ancient Role Player It is an ancient Role Player, and he stoppeth one of three. 'With your Cheeto-stained t-shirt from GenCon '85, Now why are you hassling me? The convention floor’s doors are opened wide, And I am registered, dude. My opponents are waiting; no time for debating, Let go and stop being so rude.' He holds him with a Doritos-tinged hand, "There was a game," quoth he. 'Hold off! Unhand me right now, Gramps, Or I'll call for Security!' He halts him with a steely stare- The Conventioneer stood still, And listens like a newborn child: The Role Player hath his will. The Conventioneer sat on a bench: He cannot choose but hear; And thus rambled on that ancient man Of his games from yesteryear. "First I confess, the rules were a mess, Gaming products weren't so nice. Modules were gold, and scarce were they sold. Crayons colored our dice." On did he prattle, of long ago battle- Of Fellowships victorious and lost, Of rules superseded and games obsoleted, Cataloging what each item cost. Three hours came and went that way, Mountain Dew fired the Role Player's chin, Which flapped unaware that the Conventioneer Had slip't out just ten minutes in. |

How does this fit into the theme of Redgar's Repository exactly? We're supposed to debate this as a valid game viewpoint? I really think joke posts belong in General, not in Redgar's Repository. Especially since the expected responses of "LOL" all need to be approved by moderators here, which is a waste of their time. [Hmm, you are probably right about this one. Sorry. –Regdar] |

This is an RPG related article. It may not actually be a Rules or Homebrew article, but it is RPG related. I mean, come on! It's called "Rime of the Ancient Role Player" after all. If this is supposed to be a place to put player-written articles about the mechanics of the game ONLY, then it should be in the description of the forum. What I did was OK. |

It's called "Rime of the Ancient Role Player" after all. ... What I did was OK. Well, if the moderator approves it, then it must be OK; after all, it's his forum. Recently, over the course of a 2-year game, I played a bard, my first time playing a character not of my gender. I grew to love that character, to the point where she inspired me to write songs for her to perform. I wrote some doggerel, and adapted lyrics from other songs I found. I never would have thought it appropriate to post any of them here, though. As players, we didn't come to the game to spend time listening her perform, although the other players thought it was a nice touch when I'd occasionally blow a few notes into my recorder-flute (representing her Horn of Inspire Courage), or sing a couple of lines accompanied by a few strums on my ukulele (representing her Lute of the Winds). I never sang an entire song, let alone an entire verse -- although I did compose complete songs for her outside of game time. There must be a thread for poems or songs somewhere around.... -A |
