| #2orenmirMar 25, 2008 9:13:53 | Should this be house ruled? If so, then how? No. What part of the Spyglass description says it enhances ranged weapons? Think about it this way... You have a rifle (with no scope), and binoculars. Tell me exactly how the binoculars are going to help you aim the rifle. The mechanics don't make sense; same with an xbow and spyglass. What you are looking for is the Gnomish xbow scope (I don't remember the exact name). The scope has to be fixed to the xbow and properly calibrated. You can't just slap on a spyglass and call it good -- there will be no accuracy. Someone here should be able to cite what book the scope is in. |

As an alternative to houseruling the spyglass (which seems like a weak connection IMHO), Just make a magical scope attachment for your crossbow. Say; Crossbow Sight of Departed Lords - command word to attach or remove the scope from the weapon - ignore penalties for first three range increments - has the sword of subtlety's ability of "+4 attack and damage for sneak attacks". Price it at 50,000 Gp (Nice round number & accurately costs more than the sword, as it's a non-slot charm thingy, and is even reusable when exchanging weapons). Sure it's pricey, but it'll do the job. A non-magical scope/sight item that improves sneak attacks? Probably unavailable unless playing an "anything goes" game, as Tarkin would put it. |
