Mar 14, 2008 16:09:44 This has primarliy been the board for AD&Ders, either 1st or 2nd. It didn't matter, both editions were quite compatible with one another.

But with the release of 4th ed, guess who our new neighbors will be? Thats right, 3rd editioners. This is the board for out of print editions, and they will soon be moving in, right across the street from you.

I've enjoyed this little place as it doesn't have the flame fests that have erupted between AD&D and newer editions on other boards. But I fear that will all come to an end soon.

Any thoughts on this?

Mar 14, 2008 16:37:07 Guess they'll all be here in another 2-3 months... personally, I think there should be an OOP section reserved only for 3e and 3.5e... that way, we'll avoid all the crap, since they are different games anyway that just happen to have the same name...

Mar 14, 2008 21:18:18 It doesn't really matter. The players that play the older versions, I'm talking OD&D, 1e, and 2e AD&D... will not be swayed.

I'm thinking 'Pre3ed'...meaning pre 3rd edition. So if you were posting about THAC0 you would write "Pre3ed-Thac0 question". Or maybe just 'pre3'

If they lump D20 Fantasy in with the various iterations of genuine D&D, you'll have edition wars keeping the mods really, really busy. Dragonsfoot gets around this by forbidding discussion of any Wizbro edition, leading to the "TETSNBN" schtick. That's not really a viable approach here, so it's either keep them separate or have half the posts be edition wars.

Speaking as somebody who has absolutely zero respect or affection for 3.x, that's no fun. For those who actually see some merit in every game somebody has applied the D&D label to, I'd have to assume it's even less fun.

Can't we all just get along?

On a serious note, though, those of us in OOPS (Out Of Print Society) need to be segregated. But, I don't think Wizards of the Coast will take the time or energy to do that. I think it is remarkable enough that they even have an Out Of Print section. I don't expect more of them than that.

I like the chances, especially as this has been discussed before and we agree that the needs/expectations of the groups will be different and just lumping us in a single forum is not the answer. still, it is amusing to have new neighbours all of a sudden. Do we reserve a spot for our 4e friends too?
