| #1zombiegleemaxFeb 11, 2004 7:33:30 | The Shaman class presented in Player's Option: Spells & Magic and Faiths & Avatars has rules for dealing with nature spirits of air, land, and water, but why not fire? Isn't that an element of nature as well? If there were fire spirits of nature, what spells should they be able to bestow? |
| #2zombiegleemaxFeb 11, 2004 12:17:45 | Fire is not really a nature thing. An element thing yes, but not nature. Land, air, and water are always there. They produce life. They create nature. Fire is fleeting. Sparked by outside sources. It's not just "there" the way land, air, and water are. It destroys what nature creates. It is anti-nature. Nature, however has a way of making fire work for it. When fires destroy what nature has made, nature uses this destruction to bring forth new life to replenish what was lost. Some type of priest elementalist would certainly gain fire-type spells, but a shaman should not. You can do a google search for native american mythos & deities to see how the shaman was inspired, and why fire was not generally thought of as a spirit by native americans, but the others were. |
