Being a liability Fighters can be loaded with feats, sent out to tank while the mages blast away, and not get in any swings. Fighters do well with a caster or two, but people who play a fighter in par with three or more casters are usually begging to stay on the sidelines. 2. Too straightforward A fighter is seen as a class that "Attacks, defends, attacks, defends" and then crushes the foe's skull with his or her weapon(s). Fighters are usually shunned by people who like fighting creatively as opposed to just charging straightforward into the fight. 3. Danger level critical You are in the middle of the action if you're a fighter. You make that thirty foot charge into the breach, provoking EVERY possible attack of opportunity just to kill one monster. Here's a hint: Play it safe. You have Fullplate mail, 159 HP, and a huge weapon that deals more damage than that Archer is fond of. So you don't need to prove you're buff and possibly risk death from a throng of enemies less than half your level just to kill the level 12. 4. Fighter class, barbarian mindset Most people think the fighter is all attack and no plan - this can be easily seen in a lot of people who play fighters. The DnD mindset for a fighter is that of a tank/DD, but also a seasoned battle veteran who thinks the best ways to kill that CR13 Dread Wraith before charging headfirst into combat. Think before you act is the fighter's creed. Act before you think is the Barbarian's. 5. Feats specialization If you don't like the feat, don't get it. A fighter can be one of the most powerful classes, if a person who creates one will actually take time to browse through feats and pick those that benefit each other as well as the Fighter, instead of just taking one because they think it looks cool or shiny. A great fighter will usually take several hours, if not days to create, and that's usually just feat selection. If you don't have that time, don't pick the fighter. 6. Low Saves Well too bad. Use that hard-earned gold to buy a vest of Resistance +5 and laugh at that disintegrate as it only hits you for 30 damage max instead of killing off your brand-new level thirteen badboy. The fighter is good when decked out with magical items that beef attack/AC, but shines when those Attack/AC buffs are also backed with Fortitude/Reflex/Will buffs. 7. Don't go for the Normal Get creative. When making that fighter, put low points into INT or WIS, and a higher score into DEX. Equip your fighter with a Composite longbow +1, or the Greater Swordbow. You have a fighter that can do close range tanking and murdering, or rain death from afar with all those mages. Meh. These are just my opinions. I'm a fighter, what do I know. Any and all feedback is appreciated. |
