Jul 02, 2004 0:41:33 Just bought one on Ebay, it came w/ blue cover/hex map and 28 page book, that's it....Is this complete?? It states 'encounter pieces,' 'ref's map' and a 'players map' are included.......totally confused.....

Well, if you had bought the old pink-covered version, I would say: They're supposed to be at the end of the 28-page book, on perforated sheets for easy removal.

But since you've bought the blue-covered version, I'll say: They should be in the middle of the 28-page book, between pages 14 and 15--except for the 'players map' which wasn't included in that version. The players map is similar to the DM's large-scale map (also in the middle of the 28-page book) but detailing only the shaded area on the DM's version and with odd-looking glyphs indicating what is in each hex.

If you've got an older version of D1 or D2, they have the 'players map' mentioned above.

'Encounter pieces' is a confusing term but I don't think it was referring to any additional stuff. I think they were just talking about the (then) unusual structure of the module.

I love the cover! Erol Otus my favorite 1e artist. I'm so glad he's working again.

I'm pretty sure they refer to the smaller maps of the minor encounter areas--there's a page of 6 small maps: Three tunnels of differing widths, plus encounter areas VII, VIII and IX.
