#1 Pyrate_Jib Aug 29, 2007 14:26:57	I am looking for a little information from the historical green book on Vikings that was released with 2.0. In this book they had a list of Viking "Kernings" or nicknames. I need such names for a game I am currently DMing. Can you post a few if you know of this book?

According to the Vikings book, Kennings refer to word plays used by Skalds instead of referring to the actual word: Arrows: wound-bees Axe: Wound-wolf Fire: Terror of the Birch Ship: Sea-Steed Spear: Flying thorn etc etc... Not too many examples of Nick-names are given in the book: The Tall Snake-in-the Eye the Braggard IIRC the Northern Reaches gazetteer had a much better list of Viking names and nick-names. I also recommend RuneQuest: Vikings and GURPSikings as excellent RPG supplements for Viking campaigns if you can track them down. Havard
