Jun 07, 2004 9:29:16 hey, i just got some D&D books from my uncle. I know they're not 3rd or 2nd, cause i've played those. i think they're pretty close to the first ever version. anywho, i'll describe them. first off, they're small. they're as tall as the current books are wide. a light tan color. paperbound, not hardcover. the PHB is called Men & Magic volume 1 of three booklets. it's by Gygax and Arneson. published by tactical studies rules. the second book is Monsters and Treasure , the thrid is The Underworld & Wilderness Adventures. I also received the Greyhawk supplement by Gygax and Kuntz. that was published by TSR. and i just realized what TSR stands for...anyways, first three copyright 1974 then greyhawk was 1976, but it's the 12th printing it says. copyright 1979. i tried giving as much information as i could. any help would be greatly appeciated. thanks

Jun 07, 2004 9:43:18 You have books from the Basic Dungeons & Dragons game. AD&D didn't come out until '78. So you have "0th" edition; it's not even AD&D.

That is without a doubt the old 70s version of D&D, the original version (OD&D). Man what a find!

What you have there is the contents of the original boxed set and Supplement I: Greyhawk, the first ever D&D "sourcebook". Basic D&D and AD&D came out in 76, but yours are from the earlier edition (Which itself was published through 79.).

You have some serious collectibles.

Jun 07, 2004 10:02:49 sweet mother of tyr! i'm pretty sure they're the 1st printing. i think the Original D&D Set (woodgrain box, 1st prt) is what it is. but i don't have the woodgrain box, so. but that doesn't really matter, cause i got them as a gift, so i don't think i'l be sellin them anytime soon. thanks vader. but, obviously i could be wrong as to what the boxed set is and what i have. anyways, thanks again

Jun 07, 2004 10:32:09 Either way, that's a cool find. Having the real books for that old game is awesome. Its the only edition where I am still forced to rely on PDFs.

Jun 08, 2004 0:11:29 I found the entire set in the attic of a house I moved into. And I mean the WHOLE set. From "Men and Magic" through "Swords and Spells". Mine are the fourth printing dated November 1975.

Jun 28, 2004 17:50:09 Thank you Vader for the site I have been wondering for many a years of what version I have. Sitting here at work and reading through them I have at least 4th printing maybe earlier printing. I have been searching all over for info on mine, I picked them up at a Con auction 10yrs ago. They are in awsome condition but with out a box just manuals. Again thanks for the Website.

Jun 29, 2004 2:22:13 Wow. I haven't touched any hardcopies of those books since my friend and DM died a few years ago (they're locked up in his mother's basement, probably not to see the light of day until she passes away ). Those are some sweet, sweet finds, guys.
