Good day all.  It's been a while since I've been around these parts; very happy to see ideas are still flowing along nicely.

A friend of mine wishes to run a one-shot adventure that has some sort of dragon-motif to it.  That is not to say we will be fighting dragons often, more that the threat is certainly present and we should be prepared for it, should it come to that.  Here are the house-rules:

  • Level 12

  • choose your own ability scores as long as your total ability modifier is equal to or less than 10

  • Sources include the SRD and the "Complete" series of books

  • 88,000 gp to spend on items

  • don't break the game

I'm pretty sure that's it.  Either way, this is the character I've decided to play; for now, at least:

LE Human Ex-Cleric of Erythnul 1/Paladin of Tyranny 4/Ur-Priest 7

Base Abilities: Str 15 Dex 11 Con 15 Int 11 Wis 17 Cha 17
Age/Level modifiers: Str 14 Dex 10 Con 14 Int 12 Wis 20 Cha 19
Including Items:  Str 14  Dex 10  Con 14  Int 12 Wis 26  Cha 25

Base Saves: Fort +7  Ref +3  Will +8
Saves: Fort +16  Ref +10  Will +23
BAB: +9/+4

Domains:
-Trickery.  After skill point allocation, trade in for Trickery Devotion feat as per Complete Champion.
-Evil.  Trade in for Evil Devotion

Spells: 6/6/5/5/5/3/2/1
Caster Level: 11

Feats:
(1) Spell Focus: Evil, (Human) Iron Will, (Domain) Evil Devotion, (Domain) Trickery Devotion, (3) Quicken Spell, (6) Divine Metamagic: Quicken Spell, (9) Practiced Spellcaster: Ur-Priest, (12) Divine Vigor or Divine Spell Power or something else cool that uses turn undead attempts... 'cuz:

Turn Undead attempts:
Cleric 10+ Paladin 10 + Ur-Priest 10 = 30

Am I correct that each class that grants Turn/Rebuke grants the standard 3+charisma modifier uses/day...?

Items: (88,000)
Cloak of Charisma +6 36,000
Periapt of Wisdom +6 36,000
Mithril Breastplate        4,000
Adamantine Shield        5,000
"              " Morningstar 3,000

8,000 gp remaining.

Anyway, I'm curious as to what you think about whether or not this character could stand up to an equal CR dragon.  I assume I'll be with three other party memebers, so this need not be done solo (I hope!).  Will this character break the game?  That is, will it overpower most other characters around 12th level?  I do have access to one 7th level spell per day...at 12th level...

Finally, any good suggestions for this build?  Have I missed something obvious or simply great?

According to the player's handbook, turning from the cleric and the paladin stack (so no extra attempts).  The Ur-priest turns like a cleric, so you might get in trouble there as well, but I think you can slide that by the DM without much of a problem.  The Extra turning feat though will add +4 attempts to each source of turning, so +8 with the Ur-Priest.

To bad you don't have access to Races of the dragon.  You can take turn dragon instead of undead, and that alternative class feature specifically states the turn attempts can be used to full divine feats (while taking elemental domains for turn Fire elementals does not).  If you could talk him into that, that having turn undead and turn dragon would give you lots of turnings.

If the magic item compendium is available, the Requirem holy symbol adds a variable number of turn attempts based on your build for only 1,500 gp.

Since you have access to Unearthed arcania, I would consider going with a savage bard in place of that one level of cleric.  The domain feats are interesting, but you won't have as many turn attempts as you previously thought.   Plus taking the bard at level 1 will give you a boat load of skill points and the savage bard has good Fort and Will saves.  Alternatively you could go with the cloistered cleric which also has many skill points.

Maybe go:

Bard 1/ Cloistered Cleric 1/Wu gen 1/ Cloistered Cleric 1/ Bard 1/ Ur-priest 7

Wu gen will give you a bonus metamagic feat at level one and is in Complete Arcane.

(Pretty neat though, too bad the feats don't count as you having the domain for requirements.  Mysticism is on all good and evil deities lists and is equivalent to the magic domain.  I could see Dweonomwer keepers for every deity).

If the magic item compendium is available, the Requirem holy symbol adds a variable number of turn attempts based on your build for only 1,500 gp.

It's reliquary holy symbol, and it only costs 1000 gp. You scared me... I am building a character that I put one of these on and I thought I'd misremembered the price...

The cloistered cleric suggestion is a good one, if you can use it. It's basically Knowledge Devotion and more skill points for free, for your purposes.

1. you are wrong about the number of turn attempts.
2. ''A cleric who grossly violates the code of conduct required by his god loses all spells and class features, except for armor and shield proficiencies and proficiency with simple weapons.'' This means you would also lose turning/rebuking RAW. The DM might even make you lose your Paladin stuff for turning your back to Erythnull.

Ooh. Good catch. I'd forgotten that you lose more than spell access, although it seems obvious in retrospect.
