Just a quick question.
the ring description tells you to look up the spell and look up the blink dog I did and this is the conclusion I came to.
From what I have read the blink ring lets me use dimension door once per round as a free action as per the blink dog in mm.
So if I use a ranged weapon I can get free sneak attacks with little risk of getting hit,the obvious exeption being enemy spellcasters.
does Anyone know of why this won't work?
I'm sure this has been done before and I apologize in advance if it has and I didn't see it on this forum.

Quoting the SRD:

You “blink” back and forth between the Material Plane and the Ethereal Plane. You look as though you’re winking in and out of reality very quickly and at random.

Blinking has several effects, as follows.

Physical attacks against you have a 50% miss chance, and the Blind-Fight feat doesn’t help opponents, since you’re ethereal and not merely invisible. If the attack is capable of striking ethereal creatures, the miss chance is only 20% (for concealment).

If the attacker can see invisible creatures, the miss chance is also only 20%. (For an attacker who can both see and strike ethereal creatures, there is no miss chance.) Likewise, your own attacks have a 20% miss chance, since you sometimes go ethereal just as you are about to strike.

Any individually targeted spell has a 50% chance to fail against you while you’re blinking unless your attacker can target invisible, ethereal creatures. Your own spells have a 20% chance to activate just as you go ethereal, in which case they typically do not affect the Material Plane.

While blinking, you take only half damage from area attacks (but full damage from those that extend onto the Ethereal Plane). You strike as an invisible creature (with a +2 bonus on attack rolls), denying your target any Dexterity bonus to AC.

I see two problems:
The first is your own misschance, the second is an opponent able to see etheral creatures or one who has true seeing cast.
Still, you should be able to sneak attack (at least if you're close enough).

Besides the fact that blinking has to be some of the coolest imagery ever, a constant blink effect is godly, IMHO, for a rogue character to possess.

Who doesn't want SA damage for every attack? Sure there is a miss chance, but a ghost touch weapon will solve it.....right? I figure since ghost touch weapons can be weilded by ghosts, why not by flashing things too? (reference Ghostwalk and a few other books where it says that ghosts can use ghost touch objects)

El Wrongo:

Ghost Touch Weapons allow INCORPOREAL things to be attacked by them (and attack with them)

Blinking makes you ETHEREAL which is something quite different, and beyond the power of a Ghost Touch weapon. Furthermore you're attacking from the Ethereal realm into the Material, which even things like Force effects don't do if you want to be strictly by the books.

Etherealness

Phase spiders and certain other creatures can exist on the Ethereal Plane. While on the Ethereal Plane, a creature is called ethereal. Unlike incorporeal creatures, ethereal creatures are not present on the Material Plane.

Ethereal creatures are invisible, inaudible, insubstantial, and scentless to creatures on the Material Plane. Even most magical attacks have no effect on them. See invisibility and true seeing reveal ethereal creatures...

...Even if a creature on the Material Plane can see an ethereal creature the ethereal creature is on another plane. Only force effects can affect the ethereal creatures. If, on the other hand, both creatures are ethereal, they can affect each other normally.

A force effect originating on the Material Plane extends onto the Ethereal Plane, so that a wall of force blocks an ethereal creature, and a magic missile can strike one (provided the spellcaster can see the ethereal target). Gaze effects and abjurations also extend from the Material Plane to the Ethereal Plane. None of these effects extend from the Ethereal Plane to the Material Plane.

/SRD

Force effects DO affect creatures on the ethereal plane.

Though I was wrong about the ghost touch weapons, as it only applies to creatures with the Incorporeal subtype.

The ring does not let you dimension door. Blink is completely different from dim. door, and are listed as different under the blink dog description.

This is an easy mistake. Force efects originating on the material plane affect the ethereal plane. Force effects originating on the ethereal plane do not affect the material plane. It's a one-way deal. So using force effects while blinking will not allow you to bypass the miss chance.

You could, however, get a ring of greater blink - which does not have the aforementioned miss chance, or grab the Ethereal Reaver from Comp. Psi, which can be weilded while on the ethereal plane against material foes iirc.

Ah! Thanks for clearing that up for us. I'll have to look into that ethereal reaver idea if I were to personally pursue a Blink build for a Rogue, especially if a Ring of Blink, plus whatever an ethereal reaver is costs less than a ring of greater blink.
