Would the Goliath be a better choice from races of stone for it's +1 LA despite not gaining large size? Having a HUGE Righteous Might'd 1/2 ogre would be cool to see. It's just that +2 LA stings a whole lot on the casting levels, no? |
| #2runestarFeb 08, 2009 7:03:18 | Depends on what sort of cleric you have in mind. I personally think that a half-ogre cleric7/warhulk10 with persistent divine power would be very fun to play, never mind that it probably pales in comparison to a human cleric19. But if you want a pure caster, then probably not. :P |

It will get you there a little quicker with a +1 LA, and it is a template so you can still picking a +0 underlying race such as human, half-orc, or lesser asamir (now that would be funny). Ha, I like your build rune star. If going in that direction, maybe an anthropomorphic baleen whale from savage speices would work best. It has 3 racial HD, but no LA. It is large and has much better stat mods including a bonus to wisdom. As far as being viable, I think it can be done. The spell progression will hurt, but if the rest of the party is not fully optimized you should be fine. |

| #5ninjarabbitFeb 08, 2009 10:15:44 | You can achieve the huge half-ogre cleric at cleric level 1 (ECL3) with the human heritage feat and the strength domain. Human heritage makes you human for all things including spell effects and thus makes you an valid target of enlarge person from the strength domain. |
| #6pithicaFeb 08, 2009 10:39:08 | If your DM is playing with LA buyback and core XP rules, you can buy back and catch up the +2 LA before level 11 and be almost identical with the rest of the group. Under those circumstances, I would say it would be worth it, especially if you start around ECL 5 or so (or higher). Goliath gets all the advantages of being large without any of the penalties. It isn't 'broken', by any stretch of the imagination, but it is pretty darned efficient. |

That's the best benefit of being large. :D |

I actually haven't heard it before, but it would be fun to do. |
| #9FuastFeb 14, 2009 22:08:20 | How is the +2 LA half-ogre from races of destiny any different from the +1 LA Half-Ogre from MM3. The one in the MM3 has +6 Str, -2 Dex, +2 Con, -2 Int, -2 Cha. +4 Nat Arm, -1penalty to armor class, attack, and 10ft. reach due tosize large. darkvision 60 feet, giantblood (means he qualifies for all things that require the person to be a giant to work. All this for +1 LA. |
| #10Markus.lFeb 14, 2009 23:59:40 | How is the +2 LA half-ogre from races of destiny any different from the +1 LA Half-Ogre from MM3... Can you please site a page number as I don't see any 1/2 ogre in the MM3. |
| #11runestarFeb 15, 2009 0:03:26 | Can you please site a page number as I don't see any 1/2 ogre in the MM3. He probably means savage species. The races of destiny version would probably supersede the SS version (and is likely an update). The designers probably felt it was too good at LA+1 and so revised it to LA+2. |
| #12Markus.lFeb 15, 2009 0:11:07 | He probably means savage species. That's what I was thinking. Savage species was the first 3.5 book released way back when. Based on Skip Williams creation design chart it equals +2 LA perfectly so I agree with you 100% on that assumption ;) |
| #13FuastFeb 19, 2009 15:43:19 | Yes I meant to put that it was from savage species. sorry about that. How different from it is the one in Races of Destiny. Also the stats of the savage species is the same as the one mentioned in the dragon magazine. |
| #14carnivoreFeb 19, 2009 16:04:25 | At what level? At ECL 20, a +2 LA isn't a huge handicap, but at ECL 3 it's a bit awkward. +1 what is the start level? also.... are you allowed to buyoff the LA? :D |
| #15Markus.lFeb 19, 2009 16:08:37 | ...How different from it is the one in Races of Destiny. Also the stats of the savage species is the same as the one mentioned in the dragon magazine. The 1/2 Ogre stats in SS & RoD are identical. Most of SS & the dragon magazine 1/2 Ogre [& minotaur] article are hopelessly broken & way out of correct power level, hence why they up'd the LA to a +2 in RoD for the 1/2 Ogre. |
