| #1neo_leviathanMar 27, 2011 20:48:38 | Hey all. I'm setting up a 22nd level Ninja/Spellthief Gestalt as a villain, I've gotten by with his stats being a bit nubulous up to now, but the party is just about to face him so I'd finally better actually nail things down. I've tried going over CO and similar links, and I've found: Spellthief: www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t... Ninja: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... Unfortunately the Ninja one's formatting removes the names of all feats and abilities, so it's actually pretty useless >< Race: Dark-Creature Human Level: 22 Gestalt, 20 Ninja/20 Spellthief and X above that. Stats: Due to a touch of divine blood he's pretty uber, with magic items & wishes he's at 30 in Dex & Wis, 26 in Cha & Int, etc. Feats: The only things that I have locked in is Godsblood Spelltheft (www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/frcc/2...), though I'm not sure which domain yet, Darkstalker and Master Spellthief. Seriously considering the +30ft Speed increase Epic feat for my one Epic feat, and Deadly Precision. The Fight: The basic plan is for him to fight the PCs for a bit, then once they're buffed up to the nines and ready to burn resources (or the Ninja gets injured), he buggers off to another area and waits for their short-term defenses to go down, then as they explore he attacks again. He also has a hidden room with a small number of unconcious high level spellcasters. Thanks to programmed amnesia and modify memory, they pretty much exist solely to serve as spell batteries for him, and he can use the spell from the BoEF that lets you and a spellcaster link their spell pools together, so he can access one of their spell reportoirs at any time. Aside from occasionally jumping to this room to borrow spells, he's fighting alone, no minions. He'll be making plenty of use of Arcane Spellsurge so that he can cast a quickened spell every round, plus attack in melee. The Enemy: He knows plenty about the party and how they work thanks to spying on them all the time, here's the brief: Shadowcraft Mage/Rogue - Main party arcane caster, some form of a magical construct that allows her more spell versatility and power than usual. Highly intelligent and loads of spells at her disposal, but prone to making silly mistakes at times. Likes to use Effulgent Epparation to negate any direct magical assault, Reaving Dispel to steal buffs, and Superior Invisibility to wreck havok in melee. Druid/Infernal Stalker/Warshaper - Party "tank". Goes into battle with an utterly prodigious amount of spells active (frequently 20+), Half Fiend. Can take enormous amounts of damage, frequently Wild-shapes into an Elder Earth Elemental. Very hard to kill, nigh-unhittable (without tricks) AC, moderately dangerous in melee. Wears a wildling clasp on every body slot to keep his magic items while wild shaped. Destroying the one for his Monks' belt probably a good idea. (OOC, huge powergamer) Cleric/Bard - Party buffer, healer and surprisingly dangerous in melee. Vicious and evil even though she looks like a half celestial (and has many of their powers), prone to sitting back, singing & buffing for a few rounds then suddenly charging into combat with Snowflake Wardance and Giant Size (thanks to Miracle) and wrecking havok. Easily adapts to most situations Duskblade/Favoured Soul - Party member who recently went through a complete change thanks to an artefact, still getting used to how her powers work and how best to use them. Large array of spells and abilities, can cause large amounts of damage in the right situation along with the usual healing of a divine caster. Recently turned into a Lich. Hellfire Warlock/Ranger/Beastmaster - Party blaster. Can deal obscene amounts of damage with Eldrich Glaive, relies heavily on Acid Blast to ignore SR. Extremely dangerous in melee and rides on a Raptor to get there faster. Will & Fort saves weak (for this party). However, has just destroyed the demonic contract that fueled his powers, and has just exhibited ability to turn into a were-raptor. No idea what's going on there. Help: The main things that I'm looking for is help with Magic Items, Spells & Feats. I'm also not 100% sure whether to go down the TWF tree for more damage & spell theft, or to go Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack & Bounding Assault so that he can dance around and hide after each attack. Any help on how to sneak attack the Warshaper or those with the four Elemental Hearts spells up would also be handy (if I could steal a spell from them I could steal the one preventing sneak attack, but I need to sneak attack to do it...) So, can anyone offer any suggestions? ![]() |
| #2New-ShadowMar 31, 2011 18:22:15 | Firstly, what alignment is this guy? Secondly, how attached are you to the Ninja class? Because I have something else you might like better, and you have to deny the person their Dex bonus without flanking them to use Sudden Strike. Here it is: LG Dark-Creature Human Side one: Beguiler 8/Sacred Exorsist 2(Defenders of the Faith version)/Shadowbane Inquisitor 10/ S.E. +2 Side 2: Spellthief 5/Unseen Seer 1/Sacred Pyromancer 1/U.S. +1 (for Hunter's Eye)/Spellthief +14 Feats: Lv. 1 Education (Player's Guide to Faerun version), Arcane Disciple (Balance) Lv. 3 Godsblood Spelltheft Lv. 6 Power Attack (preerq. for S.I.) Lv. 9 Master Spellthief Lv. 12 Darkstalker Lv. 15 Lv. 18 Lv. 21/22 Will finish this later, but real life calls. |
| #3neo_leviathanMar 31, 2011 18:34:11 | The ninja is partially for Thematic reasons, and partially for having immediate action 'outs' if he gets caught in melee. Plus the "See invisible & ethereal creatures as easily as he sees normal ones" is a godsend in a party where the Rogue has acess to Superior Invisibility and plenty of dispels every round if they want to get rid of true seeing. I've ended up with (so far): Scathladro Ninja 20/Spellthief 21 (three levels still to decide on) Human (Dark Creature Template) Str 16 (22) Dex 20 (30) Con 16 (26) Int 16 (22) Wis 20 (30) Cha 20 (26) Fort +6+5+8+1=+21 Ref +12+5+10+1=+29 Will +12+5+10+1=+29 HD 22d6+176=270 AC 10+10+10+6+5+5+4=50 (35 Touch, 40 FF) BaB +15/+10/+5 (+1 Epic) Speed 70ft Sneak Attack +5d6 Sudden STrike +10d6 Resist Cold 10 Godling Abilities: 1/day avoid situation that would kill him Sneak Attack immune targets at 1/2 dice Skills Concentration +31 Hide +60 Move Silently +58 Spot +40 Listen +40 Feats 1 Dodge 1 Mobility 3 Spring Attack 6 Combat Reflexes 9 Telling Blow 12 Deadly Precision 15 Weapon Finesse 18 Arcane Strike 21 +30 Speed Epic Magic Items Belt of Strength +6 Boots of Con +6 Helm of Int +6 Gloves of Dex +6 Bracers of Armor +6 Amulet of Wis +6 Cloak of Cha +6 Vest of Resist +5 2x +3 Keen Ghost Strike Kukri (15-20 crit range) Black silk armor (armor slot, no bonus). +15 Hide & Move Silently Luckstone Goggles of +5 Spot/Listen Spells - Buffs: Heroics: Bounding Assault Heroics: Shield Heroics: Blind Fight Heroics: TWF Heroics: ITWF Heroics: GTWF Shield of Faith (+5) Barkskin (+5) Shield (+4) Righteous Wrath of the Faithful Bite of the Werebear Energy Immunity Acid Cloud of Knives Arcane Spellsurge Divine Agility? | #4New-ShadowMar 31, 2011 20:35:50 | Ah, I see. That kinda makes sense then. The above build was going to take advantage of the Alternative Source Spell metamagic from Dragon #325 to DMM(Persist) most boost spells (like Wraithstrike), plus get Gravestrike from the Paladin spell-list, but this can work too. Although I do recommend the 2 levels of U.S. instead of the 21st level of Spellthief, simply to get an extra sneak attack die and Hunters' Eye from PH2 (which grants +1d6 S.A/3 caster levels), plus Still Spell as a bonus feat. The other side...something that gives you Detect Magic/Arcane Sight at will maybe? Even if you're invis., you'll still show up on D.M./A.S. as a blob of magic (hypothetically anyway). Maybe Warlock and then find someway to get to add the S.A. & S.S. together at range to add to the E.B. damage die? Up to you. Though perhaps you can go Telflammar Shadowlord, depending on your alignment, and assuming you can find a place to stick Blind-Fight in (you have most of the other prereq.s' covered). That's all I've got for now. Can this help? |

I'll take a squiz at U.S. when I've got my books with me. The main reason for lvl 21 of Spellthief is it'll let me steal up to 7th level SLAs. No reason I can't put U.S on the other side though ![]()
I'm unsure if you show up like that under Superior (which states nothing short of True Seeing can even start to perceive you), but Spellthief gets both Detect Magic and Arcane Sight X/day, so that's covered too.
Hrm. I have no idea why I hadn't considered Telf Shadowlord (the Ninja is N.E.). On the other hand, one of the PCs is already a T.S. and I'd probably rather not stand on his toes. Definitely things to think about though |
| #6New-ShadowApr 01, 2011 21:31:10 | Why not either Assassin or Arcane Trickster? You might meet the prereq.'s. |
| #7lormadorApr 02, 2011 0:24:35 | You could put the extra levels into stuff that lets you spread those nice healthy stat bonuses around. Battle Dancer. One of the anti-paladins. Ascetic Mage. A pair of Swordsage levels or a dose of Warblade. Or just template him up with Phrenic and Shadow. |
| #8neo_leviathanApr 03, 2011 21:49:57 | Hrm. Methinks I have some templates to look up tonight... |
| #9New-ShadowApr 03, 2011 23:38:51 | You could also try Swiftblade. Found here: www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20... it is something that, as long as you have Haste on your spells known (you already meet the other prereq.'s), you get some pretty good benefits (like Spring Attack at first level for free, Haste becoming an Extraordinary effect when you cast it at level 6, the Bounding Assault feat at 7th level, and much more). It'd certainly help and fit with the theme you've got going. ...And how do templates work with gestalt levels anyway? The same way they do for normal characters? |

(and frees up a feat slot too)
That's a big GM dependant, as just using them on one side of a gestalt can be a little unbalancing. The way my group works it is it takes up full LA on one side, and half that on another (eg, a +4 LA template would be four levels on one side, and two on the other). |
| #11New-ShadowApr 04, 2011 18:55:37 | Glad I could help. Thanks for the info, I was wondering if that was the case. ...Although, if you're looking for new villian ideas later on...I'm surprised that you haven't used Shadowbane Inquis./Stalker's (for the person impersonating the half-celestial), Hellreaver's (for the Hellfire Warlock (from Fiendish Codex II)) or Soulguard's (also from F.C. II) as "villians" for the PC's to face off against. They sound like they are rather evil-aligned from your description of them. One last thing, what's an Infernal Stalker, and what book/magazine is it from? Assuming it isn't a custom class, that is. |
| #12neo_leviathanApr 04, 2011 19:15:50 |
Infernal stalker is from the Arcanis setting. It's a fighter/rogue hybrid that focuses on that setting's version of a Tiefling drawing out his Infernal heritage and using that power. |
| #13New-ShadowApr 05, 2011 18:14:09 | Thanks, I don't really have a lot of settings or mission/adventure things. The settings I do have are Dragonlance, Eberron, Forgotten Realms, and Kingdoms of Kalamar. You wouldn't happen to know where I could find books and things on the other settings would you? |

That part I'm not sure, sorry. I think the mate with those books got them at a Con sometime. |
