this OP has been edited to fit my lateset line of thinking.
IMAGE(http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs035.snc1/2664_1095702643348_1550046175_30242378_6569165_n.jpg)
my unfinished art for my chacter.
so this is another reach out to the DnD masters i know are floating around this forum.

NOTE this is a 3.0 build. we do not use any more advanced rules. also, im not sure about whether or not i can prestige class with my DM. so put prestige advice as a side note if you must, but please help me optimize a rogue build with basic classes and multiclassing. THANX

i started as a kaotic good Drow Rogue. albino. when i was a little elfling, i got smuggled out of the drow kingdom because of a plot to kill me. storyline is finish. at least the first part.

my stats are as follows.

str 13 IMAGE(http://images.fanpop.com/images/image_uploads/Heavenly-Sword-Official--Art-heavenly-sword-587645_550_765.jpg)
dex 20
con 13
int 16
wis 11
cha 10

right now i have a TON of exp, but havent leveled up yet. when i do i expect to jump to level 4-5. but the problem is i dont know what to multiclass to!

basically i would like to hear peoples ideas about multi-classing a kaotic good drow rogue.

NEWRogue/Barbarian i kill alot of stuff in melee. rage, fast movement, sneak attack TONS of evasion/dodge is what this class is all about. slightly less total HP than a fighter, but not much. this would be a critical strike build. im really leaning towrds this one. i wrote alot about it on page 2. sword zon from D2. me likey.

Rogue/Wizard - from what i understand, wizard is an elves' favored class. the sheer number of spells are what draw me to this build. going no armor, with a +5 dex to ac and +4 from mage armor seems cool too. 19 ac at lev 2 with like 12 HPs lol. still it seems intersting once a higher level is attained. also, bonus feats from the wizard progression may help.

i really want to do a monk druid. but i didnt start out as either so....

Thoughts on splashing a 3rd class for any reason?

Thoughts in general?

Pros and cons for these builds?

personal experiences?

techniques and tips?

feat progressions?

Thanx in advance for reaading through all this! i appreciate any help i can get.

Information on 3.0 Drow exists in the FRCS (Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting).

Don't go rogue/druid, if you're interested in optimization. With a 16 int you should probably go with wizard. Eventually you can try to enter the arcane trickster PrC which advances wizard spellcasting and sneak attack. If this is unavailable then at least take rogue to level 2 for the +1 BAB and evasion. The rest of the build should probably be Wizard 18.

lol aww.. i know rogue wizard sounds awesome, but i started to really like the idea of rogue/druid, the more i thought about it.

youre right though, for optimization and my numbers, this would be a nice roguewizard build. ive just never used a spell caster before....

this link is awesome. everything i could need, thank you

Let me just suggest as well that you should examine your gear options very carefully, as a lot of the third ed stuff is.... well I'm pretty sure some of it never actually got playtested. In fact, I'm pretty sure some of the gear books never even got proof-read. Do you know if the book of vile deeds is allowed as-is or what? It was effectively a 3rd ed publication, and much of it has been over-ridden by third ed stuff, but there's a completely hilarious build for a finesse fighter who's basically a crit-engine if all of it is allowed.

maybe it is, ill have to ask my dm if he has it. if he doesnt have it, we cannot use it this guy is a 59 year old dnd old schooler. our games are always fun. i looked into making a crit engine awhile back. with the wizard build i noticed that there is a keen spell, in which you can make a weapon keen. i could go rogue/fighter/wizard, with wizard as my favored class, i dunno, thoughts?

i do know that i AM a rogue, and cannot change what i started out as. :D

thanx!

Never triple class if you can avoid it without prestiges or a really concrete build behind you. I recommend sticking with the rogue/wizard, if you are already locked into rogue.

ok then... i do love melee though. talk about optimizing a stealth/battle rogue/wizard?

love to hear your advice!

i deleted the other build options from the OP. advice for Rogue/Wizard? i know u said not to, but what about splashing fighter at level 3 for 2 feats? they could be casting feats too. my level 1 feat was weapon finesse. before i EVER thought about crossing into wizard. still, i have killed A LOT with my short scimitar...

i just dont want to be a 100% support char. i can and will kill. i would liket to take feats and spells that are geared towards battle. keen spell really turns me on. especiallt with improved crit at level 9-10 (depending on if any fighter levels gained too)

Basically, you must be very zen about this. Understand that you may love a thing, but you cannot do too much. You have to separate character conception a little bit from mechanics.

CO is about remembering that the game rules don't define your character, they define what your character can do. They're just a set of abilities to reflavor as needed. Maybe your wizard\rogue is a descendant of a long tradition that has always incorporated the dagger, the cloak, and the spell in a single body of knowledge.

Classes aren't who you are, they're just what you can do. Meditate on this, and fold two hundred cranes. ;0

All that said, rogues aren't my specialty. In fact, "normal" builds aren't really my specialty at all, so I dunno if I can help with a core-only-ish rogue\weeeeezard. That said, expect to be doing your killing for a bit of a remove a lot of the time. Have you considered scout over rogue? I know scout is pretty far from core, but it sounds like you're feeling a little murderous to be a skill monkey.

Well, what with all the crit-range stackability in 3.0, you can make a character that has a better chance of threatening than of actually hitting. I mean, just keen+imp. crit. on a scimitar is magical. Get the weapon property that does con damage on a crit... Magical...

EDIT: Unfortunately, I have no 3.0 core books, so only my vague memories of the one 3.0 game I played are available for aid.

was thinking this route too a little bit. i would just love 12-20 critical. plus i CAN hit because of finesse. with a rogue wizard, i get a keen enchant spell too... and spider climb! drop from the ceiling and do sneak attack damage with a 12-20 crit range.... makes me horny as hell!

Found the book for Arcane Trickster, its Tome and Blood. If I were you I would go

Neutral rogue 1
+max skill ranks in Decipher script, disable device, escape artist
Rogue 1/Wizard 1
+4 Knowledge arcana
Rogue 1/Wizard 2
+Decipher script and whatever you want
Rogue 2/Wizard 2
7 ranks in Decipher script, disable device, escape artist
Rogue 2/Wizard 3
Rogue 2/Wizard 4
Rogue 3/Wizard 4
Rogue 3/Wizard 5
Rogue 3/Wizard 5/Arcane Trickster 1
R 3/W 5/AT 2-10
R 3/W 6-7/AT 10

That will let you cast as a 17th level wizard (1 9th level spell/day)
7d6 sneak attack
Skill mastery in a few key skills (tumble, umd, hide, move silently, disable device, open lock)
Good Reflex and Will saves
Only a +10 BAB but that will be good enough to hit with ray spells (to which you can apply your sneak attack dice).

I think you can get better than 12-20... There was a prestige class that increased critical threat range... Maybe get something that increases chance to confirm crits, funky stuff that happens on crits...

Assassin might be fun, if there's something like that in 3.0.

Assasin is in Song and Silence I believe, and I Weapon Master (Sword and Fist) gives you +2 to your crit range (stacks with improved critical AND Keen Edge AND the weapon property "Keen")

So, amazingly if you got yourself a bladed gauntlet (exotic 1d6 17-20 , x2) and cast keen edge on it (13-20), take improved critical (5-20), and gain ki critical from Weapon Master (3-20) You would crit on a natural roll of 3 or higher lol. Just make it vorpal and no one will ever mess with you again.

How ridiculous.

could it be on a rogue/wizard/monk? with wizard being my favored class, i could take a third class and keep it even with my rogue's level.

Oh, actually I think you can make the actual bladed gauntlet enchanted with the keen property and then you will automatically crit (even on a natural 1, unless 1 = auto fail in your campaign). This seems stupidly broken.

How could they possibly include 3 effects that stack with each other in 2 core books? Keen Edge + Improved Critical

Oh there's a note: a keen weapon + improved critical triples the threat range, I would assume that casting keen edge on it would make it quadruple, then the Weapon master feat ability specifically says that it adds +2 if you allready have imp. crit.

So 17-20 = 4 crit range. x4 = 16 +2 = 18 So the final result for a keen, keen edged, bladed gauntlet for a 7th level Weapon Master with the improved critical feat results in a small slashing weapon that at medium size deals 1d6 damage and crits on 3-20

Except maybe Arcane Trickster. Forgot about him. I don't know what he looks like in 3.0 though.

And is a bladed gauntlet finesseable? Also, didn't they errata that to 19-20?

dr_rocktopus

Mar 22, 2009 20:03:58
Yes, I thought they did but is the errata 3.5 or 3.0? :: sighs :: I don't normally say this, but 3.0 is not a good edition. On the other hand, the problems with 3.x and dnd in general have never centered on the melee characters.

Okay, that was a surprisingly cogent answer to a joking question. But I guess HE was right and we don't really need books, neh?

In any case, I think you need to pick either focusing on your rogue side, or focusing on your wizard side. That's not a decision for me. That said, a lot of these crit builds are excellent, and a really good jumping off point.

i really like the idea of a crit build. thats a sneaky mage as well. maybe with said bladed gauntlet? with a gauntlet on, can i cast spells?

in response to Rocktopus, i think focusing on the mage more might be cool? like a Rogue 7/Mage 13? 7th level rogue because of sneak attack 4d6. although looking back, i would get a second attack at rogue 8. hmmmm....but by the time i reach rogue 8, the game will be far progressed. we probably wont even make it that far....the game usually breaks up in the summer...
rogue 3/mage 17 would give me evasion, uncanny dodge, and sneak attack 2d6.

for a crit rogue/mage build, shouldi take higher rogue levels? i think that if i can get really high AC, then i wont have to worry about HP as much.. and with high crit/instant kill success, i wont have to worry about a counterattack...

i was looking through the spells, and schools of spells, and i like the transmutation school, with a splash of conjuration for mage armor. i like the idea of magically increasing my ability to do ANYTHING. the 2nd level spells that increase your abilities is what i like. i have good INT at 16, and i think this will be awesome. the only bad thing is low HP. is there an answer for that?

also, as in morrowind, can i enchant items to have constant effect? like make my signet ring increase my strength 3 for as long as i wear it? or my constitution....?

it seems that, if one can become a high level mage, then he/she will be very powerful indeed. with low hp being the con, what can be done to fix it?

i have a storyline started in d20 Character Development. its pretty cool, and i think i may want to write more about it now...http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?p=18149578#post18149578

I am certain the guys here have already told you this, but as a Caster, and especialy a wizard, you Always want to keep your Caster Level above 17 - to be able to cast 9th level spells, the best thing your character can do in this game.

Now, whatever you choose, always have this in mind.

That being said, the Arcane Tricster PRC and the Unseen Seer (3.5) both are good ways of combining a rogue and a wizard.

Also, something Very important with Casters is that your character has No level adjustment. Even a ''slight'' level adjustment of +1 makes you significantly weaker compared to what you could be :p

Oh, and swap that Dex with Int, it's far better to have a high base int - no Skill point gains from added int from magic items, where dex bonuses are all the same no matter where they come from!

On the other hand, if you want to play a more Rogue-ish character, the above arent all that important >.>

done. was joking anyway

my friend thinks i should go rogue sorceror, because i told him i dont like the idea of preparing spells. there ARe alot more spells to cast this way, but i dont get the higher level ones as fast.

i kinda like this idea better, but im not sure. im so confused now!
i wanted to be a Rogue/Druid. a sneaky shape changer is what i wanted, really bad. but people shot it down....perhaps my scores werent good enough?

so i thought hm...rogue/barb might be sweet, alot of evasion, plus great HP....i would silently rage too.

then i thought alot more about Rogue/wizard, which seems sweet, but i dont wanna die all the time.a rogue/wizard/fighter would help that considereably, and would acomplish exactly what i want as a wiz - enchanting, buffing scores, the transmutation school basically. plus extra feats abound. my hp would be decent, and all i would have to do is keep the fighter and rogue levels evenish.and concentrate on wizard....

i wish we could use 3.5.... a rogue/scout sounds sic. actually. i probably would have just started as a scout. or a ninja.....

but i digress. a lot.

i guess what im saying is i dont know what i want to cross into, but i do wanna cross. with the ability scores in the OP, i could do a couple of sweet builds.

yeh, SHE's already rogue. the whole reason i want to make a rogue multi. and my dm said that someone in our group had over 9000 experience. i think its me, i have the most kills since joining. so i think im gonna jump to level 4ish next session, which gives me a week to nail down this build.
in the OP i wrote down that str was 11 and my wis was 13. this is backwards.
i also have since decided to forgo the cha bonus from being drow. this is kind of unfair....

str13 dex 20 con 13
int16 wis11 cha10

these are my pros.

i wreck stuff with a scimitar.
i have 20 dex.
i have 16 int.
i have +1 strength bonus. this has helped alot
i have alot of skills, and high mods in them.

these are my cons

i have a +1 strength bonus. this has hurt alot
i have low wis and cha.
my AC is 17. i think i am going to pick up a shield maybe. +1-2 def would help
____________________________________________________________________
*once i got past wanting to 2 weapon fight(would use up too many feats to get it) i started thinking sword and shield, with my bow as back up.

since i have been killing alot with my scimitar im thinking the ol' swordzon from diablo 2. she focused on evasion feats, and critical strike feats, with the valkyrie (summon fighting partner) to help. also penetrate i think reduced the ac of the creature being hit.

not sure if this can be done, but by doing a rogue/barb, the uncanny dodge bonuses would increase faster, sneak attack is coo, plus a silent rage (can convince the dm of this.) at level 9 id get improved critical, and 3d6 sneak attack at 10th.

*with a 13 in my con, my first point would go there to increase my HP per level. my total HP would be more like a fighters (d6, d12, d12, d6, d6, d12, d12, d6, d12, d6..)

*with 13 in my str, my second point would go there at level 8 for a 14 str, and +2 bonus.
*i already took weapon finesse as my first feat. my others im not sure about yet.

*i never saw this game before. but this is what i imagine. it is "Heavenly Sword" for PS3
IMAGE(http://images.fanpop.com/images/image_uploads/Heavenly-Sword-heavenly-sword-449229_342_500.jpg) its very much inline with the concept.

*i like a falchion-wielding red-head. and with a barb ill have martial weapon prof too. look out!

*this could be a sweet crit build. falchion is 18-20. so is my other main weapon, the scimitar.

*40 speed will be awesome with a rogue. imo that is...

this was has been quite the ride gents, figuring this out. if your tired of my wishy washy ways, fear not! by next week ill be looked into the progression and wont be able to change it. Hooray for finally leveling up next week!

thanks for everyones input. id love to hear more, especially about this new one ive laid out.

If you're serious about rogues and want to roll with the crit build, that leaves a lot of feats free for you to invest in the ever excellent two weapon fighting. While the Damage Per Turn for TWF isn't great normally, you'll have your sneak attack dice to hurl around. Invest in things that make sure you get as much of that as possible.
If you're not interested in really focusing on the mage side, which is reasonable, your goal should be either fifth or sixth level spells. Both of those open up some very seriously interesting combat options. As a character with a softer and less gishy focus, you'll be free to pursue some of the more esoteric options open to you. All of this said, there's a feat called practiced spell caster which you will want quite badly as it will allow you to make up your lost caster levels, though you won't gain spells per day.

Spells you must know:
Invisibility
Improved invisibility
Silence
Knock
Fog
Solid Fog
Ideally, freedom of movement

Freedom of Movement plus solid fog is completely absurd, by the way.

well *giggles* everything youve posted is against what i just said.. *sniff*

i dont really have any spare feats lying around to grab ambidexterity and two weapon fighting. i already took finesse at level 1. so unless i multi into say, a fighter. i cannot do this list you provided.

the spells you wrote down would be very handy, but again, if i do barb/rogue concentrating on falchion crits (twohanded weapon) then there is no way i can even access them.

however, if you have an idea i like to hear it. what sort of class/build were you suggesting from your post? a rogue/wiz? i know thats what everyone on here has been telling me to do, but i dont like the part about have 6 hp at level 100 (joking, but u understand). i am at my best in melee, and have never played a spellcaster before - not that this couldnt be the first time. ive just put the most thought into a rogue/barb, on paper that is, and it seems very fun.

i really want to hear you out completely though. if we can make a spellcaster that can use a falchion for crit strikes AND cast the spells you were saying, then id love to try to blend them.

please ser, elaborate.

i have re-evaluated my words. i WILL consider 2 weapon fighting. i just like the rogue/barb build, and am surious how that could work. otherwise.... ranger? remember we are using 3.0, and aside from a 10HD, they have no real special things about them. i guess favored enemy is decent. choose ones immune to critical...

or fighter. but then its alot like this drizzet guy that people keep talking about. i have never read his books, but people have definitely told me that im similar. possibly because im a good drow. but i look um...different.

#42

SylvanPrincess

Mar 25, 2009 12:16:17
This is a Forgotten Realms Exclusive Class

Deadly barbarians who bear magical runes carved into their flesh, runescarred berserkers are among the most feared of Rashemen's defenders. They are loyal bodyguards to the hathrans of the land and stand ready to unleash a storm of martial fury at a single word from any Witch. Many runescarred berserkers bind themselves to a single Witch and protect her with their very lives, but others become the chieftains of berserker lodges or take up a simple existence as a wandering defender of the Rashemi people. The word of a Witch is law in Rashemen, but runescarred berserkers carry a weight of authority almost as great in some quarters of the land.

All runescarred berserkers have at least some experience as barbarians, since the ability to rage is a requirement of the prestige class. Characters with some training as fighters, rangers, and rogues are also common among the ranks of the runescarred. Spellcasters rarely choose this path, because Rashemi society defines other roles for them. Monks and paladins have antithetical alignment requirements, and only characters who have abandoned one of these classes can become a berserker.

Hit Die: d10

To qualify to become a Runescarred Berserker, a character must fulfill all the following criteria:

* Skills: Craft (scarring) 5 ranks, Intimidate 5 ranks, Sense Motive 2 ranks
* Feats: Iron Will, Survivor, at least one berserker lodge feat from Chapter 3: Regions and Feats (Uapproachable East)
* Base Attack Bonus: +7.
* Special: The character must be able to rage at least once per day, as the barbarian class ability, and must be a member of a berserker lodge. (For more information about berserker lodges, see Chapter 10: Rashemen - Unapproachable East.) Also, the character must qualify to select regional feats from Rashemen (Rashemen is his home region, or he has 2 ranks in Knowledge [local - Rashemen])

Wait, you're a good drow who uses a scimitar?

Whatever you do, don't use two of them. Do not under any circumstances, use two scimitars as a good drow. You will be killing kittens and catgirls left and right.

what does this class get?

im not sure if i could do this. most of the stuff isnt from the dm guide or players handbook - is all from forgotten realms...i dont think the dm would allow it. *sad*

i did talk to him about the valkerie spell though from Diablo. creating another being to fight for me with hit dice and all - not having to sustain it - would be sweet.

so, the rogue/barb build is as follows. up to char level 10

(1)rogue1- D6, sneak attack 1d6, weapon finesse
(2)rge1/barb1- d12, rage 1/day, fast movement
(3)rge1/barb2- d12, uncanny dodge, [chosen feat dodge?]
(4)rge2/barb2- d6, evasion, {+1 to con}
(5)rge3/barb2- d6, uncanny dodge, sneak attack 2d6
(6)rge3/barb3- d12 [chosen feat]
(7)rge3/barb4- d12 Rage 2/day, +6/+1 BAB
(8)rge4/barb4- d6 {+1 to str}
(9)rge4/barb5- d12 Uncanny dodge, [chosen feat is IMPROVED CRITICAL]
(10)Rge5/barb5-d6 sneak attack 3d6

as you see this seems to be a strong build. the level you dont gain any special abilities you instead gain (at lev8 +1 to strength) at level 10 is where i might consider a prestige class. or ill just continue this path.
___________________________________________________________________

my other build i am thinking of is rge1/druid8/barb1 or rge2/druid7/barb1 (again, only thought out to level 10)

this is what i have on paper

(1)rge1- D6, sneak attack 1d6, weapon finesse
(2)rge1/druid1- d8, spells 3/1, Nature sense,
(3)rge1/druid2- d8, spells 4/2, woodland stride, [chosen feat]
(4)rge1/druid3- d8, spells 4/2/1, trackless step {ability point}
(5)rge1/druid4- d8, spells 5/3/2, resist natures lure
(6)rge1/druid5- d8, spells 5/3/2/1, WILD SHAPE 1/day, [chosen feat]
(7)rge1/drd5/barb1- d12, spells 5/3/2/1, rage 1/day, fast movement
(8)rge1/drd6/barb1- d8, spells 5/3/3/2, wild shape 2/day {ability point}
(9)dont know
(10)dont know

this is a sneaky character until level 6 when it get the first wild shape. i think i might try to take improved unarmed strike feat progression. i like the idea of a grizzley bear with 4 attacks with unarmed bonus. the other awesome thing about this character is the saves. at level 2 your saves are 2/2/2 fort/ref/will.
once you hit level 7 and can rage and wild shape, i think things will be nasty.

Found the book for Arcane Trickster, its Tome and Blood. If I were you I would go

Neutral rogue 1
+max skill ranks in Decipher script, disable device, escape artist
Rogue 1/Wizard 1
+4 Knowledge arcana
Rogue 1/Wizard 2
+Decipher script and whatever you want
Rogue 2/Wizard 2
7 ranks in Decipher script, disable device, escape artist
Rogue 2/Wizard 3
Rogue 2/Wizard 4
Rogue 3/Wizard 4
Rogue 3/Wizard 5
Rogue 3/Wizard 5/Arcane Trickster 1
R 3/W 5/AT 2-10
R 3/W 6-7/AT 10

That will let you cast as a 17th level wizard (1 9th level spell/day)
7d6 sneak attack
Skill mastery in a few key skills (tumble, umd, hide, move silently, disable device, open lock)
Good Reflex and Will saves
Only a +10 BAB but that will be good enough to hit with ray spells (to which you can apply your sneak attack dice).

this is a nice progression, i dont thin k i saw it posted before... hmm
still it is a weak char in terms of health, but the 17th level spell caster is very nice... im trying to decide still, but i am leaning towards a melee powerhouse rougue. it would be cool to have unarmed strike too, or trip/improved trip. something that will let me use sneak attacks vs prone enemies.

Spells you must know:
Invisibility
Improved invisibility
Silence
Knock
Fog
Solid Fog
Ideally, freedom of movement

Freedom of Movement plus solid fog is completely absurd, by the way.

Well, having rarely played a druid, never played a barb, and only played a rogue when the normal player was away, I am woefully unprepared to aid you in your quest.

Especially since the only thing I ever learn about 3.0 is when I to tell my DM that something 3.0.

Pros: Invis/Blink

Cons: Low Caster level

How to get around: Choose one or the other. Preferably Mage, as with Shapechange you can be a better rogue than an actual rogue!

Or does shapechange work that way in 3.0?

im unsure. y'all are the experts

im sorry i have been so undecided. but i really need help. this will be my challenge to you:

USING ONLY the 3.0 players handbook and DM book, optimize a rogue/_______ that uses a large falchion, focusing on critical strikes, with my abilities scores from the OP.

I'm sorry, it's the fact that I don't have 3.0 books. With 3.5, I've got yo' back, homie!

But 3.0, ugh, only seen the books twice. We then upgraded to 3.5 cause I got the book for Christmas.

I'd go for Rogue for now, focus on hide.Move Silently and sneak attack, and I'll see if I can get my hands on some 3.0 stuff. Even just Player's Handbook might work.

its the same basically. except there are more classes in 3.5. what i was asking is for help multiclassing a rogue with any of the base 'classic" characters. barb, bard, cleric, druid, fighter, monk, ranger, rogue, sorcerer, and wizard. the best option for lev5-10 progression. i think ill be leveling to level 5 so i want that to be optimized is all. ill worry about prestige when i get there

thanks for having my back

Well, I'd stick with rogue, myself, but whatever, your call. Also, PLEASE change to scimitar. It makes it much more fun. You'll get two-weapon fighting goodness.

Feats to look for:

Improved Critical

Magical Properties:
Keen

well i have 2 scimitars, but i want to switch into a martial character to ge the martial weapon prof for a falchion, and fight 2 handed. this weapon is also 18-20 crit range, and i would try to maximise that.

i was talking my my party member tonight, and he thinks thati should go rogue5/ranger5 then switch into wizard till the end. this way id have decnt HP when i finally switched to wiz, i would have sneak attack 3D6, and 2 favored enemies.

i still like the rogue/barb idea, but the goal for me here is this :

* BAB 8 as fast as possible for improved critical- falchion. level 9?
* IF i cross into a spellcaster, get Keen spell as fast as i can get it.
* IF i cross into a spellcaster, cast spells that augement my OWN abilites. sure ill heal u if i have to, but i want to increasemy CON,DEX, and STR, plus keen edge on the falchion. spiderclimb is cool too.

*cleave might be awesome with a weapon that is 12-20 crit.

think im losing myself here at 3:40 am. the last thing ill say is this (and i have a thread about it in "whats a player to do?")... i was bitten by a goblin-were-rat, and when i changed recently the "dm's discretion" told me the each tim ei change will be a different werecreature. my DM usually rewards you for out foxing his lil tricks (the first time he changed me to a were-platypus...) - but i think the answer for me is not to get cured, but learn how to control it. after several months of attempts, i begin to understand it (lucky for my, the first night, i told him i was meditating while the change took place). if i can learn to control this and become a lycan/rogue, do u have any ideas for me? mayhaps just switch right into monk and never look back? a weretiger she-monk sound formidable indeed...

in 3.0 .... you only need one level of Ranger to get most of the Ranger goodies .... also try this:

Rogue 3/ Ranger 2/ Fighter 4.... to get Imp Crit(Falchion) @9th lvl... also will give more feats and Weapon Specialization(if you want)

for controlling changes... try this:

Skill ...Control Shape... found here:
http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/monstersKtoL.html#lycanthrope
CONTROL SHAPE (WIS)
Any character who has contracted lycanthropy and is aware of his condition can learn Control Shape as a class skill. (An afflicted lycanthrope not yet aware of his condition can attempt Control Shape checks untrained.) This skill determines whether an afflicted lycanthrope can control his shape. A natural lycanthrope does not need this skill, since it has full control over its shape.

Check (Involuntary Change): An afflicted character must make a check at moonrise each night of the full moon to resist involuntarily assuming animal form. An injured character must also check for an involuntary change after accumulating enough damage to reduce his hit points by one-quarter and again after each additional one-quarter lost.

Involuntary Change Control
Shape DC
Resist involuntary change 25

On a failed check, the character must remain in animal form until the next dawn, when he automatically returns to his base form. A character aware of his condition may make one attempt to return to humanoid form (see below), but if he fails, he remains in animal form until the next dawn.

Retry (Involuntary Change): Check to resist an involuntary change once each time a triggering event occurs.

Check (Voluntary Change): In addition, an afflicted lycanthrope aware of his condition may attempt to use this skill voluntarily in order to change to animal form, assume hybrid form, or return to humanoid form, regardless of the state of the moon or whether he has been injured.

Involuntary Change Control
Shape DC
Return to humanoid form (full moon*) 25
Return to humanoid form (not full moon) 20
Assume hybrid form 15
Voluntary change to animal form (full moon) 15
Voluntary change to animal form (not full moon) 20
* For game purposes, the full moon lasts three days every month.

Retry (Voluntary Change): A character can retry voluntary changes to animal form or hybrid form as often as he likes. Each attempt is a standard action. However, on a failed check to return to humanoid form, the character must remain in animal or hybrid form until the next dawn, when he automatically returns to humanoid form.

Special: An afflicted lycanthrope cannot attempt a voluntary change until it becomes aware of its condition (see Lycanthropy as an Affliction).

this is awesome! so if i learned to control my changes, i could change whenever? even if the moon wasnt full? or did i misread that...?

this is a skill? also, should i pump more into concentration or similar skills as well? i am a good character, traveling with a good paladin, and i dont want him to feel compelled to kill me if i turn into a werecreature that is evil. so far he hsa protected me and his gf in the game (and outside it) took care of me.

youve given me much to think about, thanks. just by the dm saying i would turn into ANYTHING, made me mad at first until i realized that if i could control my affliction, then i could turn into whatever i want....whenever i want....

also, ive convinced my dm to go over guidline rules for me to get the diablo 2 assassin skill "shadow master" later on. this character could be sweet...

rogue3/ranger2/fighter4? sounds pretty awsome. 3 feats, fro the fighter, ambi + two weapon fighting from the ranger, and sneak attack 2d6, evasion, and uncanny dodge from the rogue? then improvedcrit. SWEET. what after that? a prestige? ive always like final fantasy dragoons... but this might not be the right character to do one of them...

if i could learn to control this, i think i could have alot of fun.

How would your DM adjudicate Shadow Master? A copy of you, using all your skills, is very powerful. The currency of D&D isn't Gold, it isn't Spell Slots, it's Actions per Round. Two of you is very powerful.

(This is assuming it isn't an idiot like the D2 one and only use your crappy skills, the main reason I use the weaker version, so it will just spam traps/mind blast)

he and i are going to go over it to figure it out. im not sure yet, but i think i can get it to be a prestige class-type ability that goes up. at tenth level 1/day, five 2/day, and ten 3/day.

it would:

*have the same hit die as me, but i would have to roll for it when cast.
*be very hard to fail casting. its a natural ability.
*only be able to travel my base land speed away from me in distance. which is why this class would get plus 10 land speed every 5 levels as well
*i would roll a chance dice to determine just how good it got. 1-5 6-10, 11-15,16-20 for different skill sets
*i wouldbe abletocomunicate verbally with her with any language i know.
*she would be my twin essentially. but know what she was there for.

more ideas are welcome. this is not fleshed out at all. these are just ideas for the shadow master itself. i also want to flesh out the d2 assassin as a prestige class.i think itd be sweet. but this wouldt be the claw version, but the combat one. i would gain slight spellcasting, and maybe even get something like tiger strike, or another one. consecutive hits would increase the damage maybe. also, poison blade, and proficiency with thrown "bomb" weaponswould be nice...

keep in mind, this is just an idea for a prestige class.

so we didnt level up again. now we wait 3 weeks to play and hopefully get to town.

another note. i just gor 4 outa five (i think) of the guidebooks. masters of the wild, rogue/bard, fighter/monk, and pallys/clerics. i wish i had the wiz/sorc one.

my friend who is the most powerful in our game, and who has played the longest and knows the most keeps saying that we should have back up healer in the group. now, i dont want to fill this role, but it might fall to me. i really like the thief-acrobat, is there a way i can multi into a class that can heal, and still prestige into something from the rogue/bard book? ill have to look.

also, are therre any wiz/sorc prestiges for 3.0 that might be more battle-y with a splash of casting?
