The GM of my current Saturday sessions has invited me to join his Thursday group. The problem is that the session they are currently running is heavy in powergaming, and their level 11 characters are taking on 17 CR encounters no problem.

The GMs of both this group and my current one have expressed concern that I make a character that can survive at minimum, preferably excelling as they do.

I don't know all the other character's details, but the party has a Half-elf Ranger, a Mulhorand Cleric/Shifter, a ? Wizard, and an NPC gnome bard.

I wanted to make a skill-junky/front line fighter but wasn't sure what to go with, and the session is tomorrow.

The only significant house rules are as follows:
Just about Anything from 3.5 or 3e is allowed.
As 11th level, I have 66,200 in gold to allocate to items.
One extra bonus feat starting at first level and every five levels(5,10,15,20)
One region bonus feat.
Two Ability modifiers(Specified for each class, Barbarian is STR and CON, rogues are DEX and INT) = bonus skillpoints every 4 levels.

Try this:

http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1007894&highlight=Urgosh

at 11th level, he just picks up the Flurry of Strikes ability, which increases his damage geometrically.

to spend your gold....

+1 Adamantine /+1 Adamantine Urgosh
~10,000 gold
+4 Str Belt of Battle (using MIC rules)
28,000 gold
+2 Con Neck
4,000 gold
+3 Vest of Resistance
9,000 gold
Boots of Speed
12,000 gold

that leaves 3,000 for misc stuff and consumables.

Just add in your extra 3 feats and skill points in the build when you get them. Good feats would be to bump down some of the feats later in the build (like Leap Attack) or just take Extra Rage for more multicombat viability.

Oooo. Thanks for this.

I'll have to run it by the DM first, this maybe a little bit too powerful.

Powerful? Yes. But he's only melee. Anything he does is only damage. He's not reshaping the world to his very whims like the 11th level wizard is with his 6th level spells. And if your DM optimizes monsters and encounters like you've suggested he does, then you'll probably need it. I played this character, and my DM didn't have a problem designing challenging encounters. What he did have problems with was one of the other players playing a Shadowcraft Mage and dropping free Force Cages on everything and then slow cooking them with Walls of Fire. Melee characters are easy to adapt around, even ones that can pump out 300ish damage a round at level 15 or so.
