This might apply to any version, however, we are currently playing 3.5 (and to be honest, I haven't played any version since AD&D v1)

So, If I take the Skill Alchemy - Does this grant me the skill/talent to collect alchemy mats as I adventure?

Or is collecting and preparing mats a seperate skill?

Thanks!!

Collecting materials is subsumed in the price you pay to create the item. For example, normally, buying a tanglefoot bag off the shelf would coat you 50gp. Mixing one up yourself costs half of that (25gp) in unspecified "raw materials", which is then processed via the Craft: Alchemy skill into a real tanglefoot bag. Read the skill to see how.

It would be up to the DM to decide if you find some appropriate raw materials for making a given product lying around a particular location.  Typically, you just spend money to get the raw materials from somewhere (with the exact details of how or where you get them being either unimportant, or covered by a general description).

As a houserule, I guess you could make appropriate skill checks to get a certain amount of material by spending some time when you're not actively adventuring (like the Profession skill, but yielding raw materials instead of money), but the game doesn't generally concern itself with the details of gathering materials.
