Specifically, I want to cast Mind Fog.

Apart from the Erudite class, how else can I acquire such an ability? It doesn't have to be a power, but if it were that would be nice since that means I can raise its DC and such.

The easiest way would be to research your own psionic power using the rules in the XPH.

Or see if your DM allows entry into Cerebremancer with a 1-level wizard dip and Precocious Apprentice. :D

Heh yeah, but let's assume that the DM is inimical to that idea

You could use a Ring of Spell Storing, but 50K gold (plus the cost of recharging it) isn't cheap.

also like to point out that mind fog is a very sub-optimal spell and there are much more effective ways of causing your opponent to fail a will save.

simplest way is just to increase the DC of your powers. Not sure what p owers you are looking to use but many are augmentable, often you can get a +1 DC for every 2 power points spent to augment a power.

a psionatrix of telepathy will give you a +1 enhancement bonus to the save DC's of telepathy powers

the overchannel feat will let you manifest a power as if you were up to 3 levels higher, this can let you augment it more and thereby raise the DC

the psionic endowment and greater psionic endowment feats can increase the dc of a power by up to 2 when you expend your psionic focus

there are several powers in Complete Psionic that allow you to grant negative levels, each negative level gives a cumulative -1 to all saves

i'm sure there are some other good options for a psion but they aren't coming to mind right now (pun not intended), give me some time.

the problem with mind fog is it has the entry "saving throw: will negates" which IMO makes it almost pointless, if your target fails the will save against mind fog then they probably would have also failed the same save DC against whatever power you are attempting to slip past their defenses with the -10 save penalty. You would have a better chance of getting the power to affect them by just manifesting on your target twice.

Useful, however, for things such as mass psionic dominates and such.

Besides, apart from psionic endowment and Ability Focus, there aren't many ways to raise the DC of spell-like/psi-like abilities...

but again, you would have a better shot with a augmented psionic dominate if you just manifested it twice than if you used mind fog and then psionic dominated

theres stygian bolt and stygian conflagration in complete psionic...those will give negative levels and thereby lower their target's will save

Yeah I've looked at them...but they seem too clumsy. They suffer from the same issue as Mind Fog, that they're completely negated by a save. Reflex saves also tend to be a bit higher than Will Saves, too.

stygian conflagration doesn't allow a save to avoid gaining negative levels, but it is 9th level
