Ok so my DM is getting ready to kick off a game in which we the party will be picking either the side of the Demons or Devils and fight to win the Blood War. I'm taking the side of the Devils and I want a lawful evil gish to kick some Demon ass with.

ECL 1
Lawful Evil

All Books including Dragon Magazines
Really looking for a flavor packed race with an infernal heritage

generally favor combat over casting

dont care if the gish is arcane, divine or psionic, just crowdsourcing some cool ideas because I'm drawing a blank.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome, thanks!

I always liked the hellbred race in fiendish codex 2. Its basically spawn. Mechanically it kind of sucks, but it is pretty neat otherwise.

If you want to be a gish play a cleric.

I was actually thinking of playing a cleric and I was actually considering the hellbred. Fiendish creatures are stupid and I'm not convinced that Half-Fiend is worth the steep LA. The Tiefling is neat but pretty sub optimal for a clanky gish. I was thinking of trying to convince my DM to retool Ruby Knight Vindicator to work with Asmodeus instead of Wee Jas, what do you think of that?

One of the Dragon magazines included a half-minotaur template, if you can find it.  It's not exactly fiendish, but give it a bit of personal flavour to make it seem fiendish and it would fit in (it's already got the horns).

There were also the Half-Fiendish variety articles, which covered customizing half-fiends to resemble the offspring of particular types of fiend (instead of just being generic).  It might be worthwhile if there's some particular kind of fiend that suits you, though it would still have to be enough to justify that +3 LA.

Thanks Slagger, that is exactly what I was hoping for! Any thoughts on the Ruby Knight Vindicator idea?

It's pretty solid as a combination, as long as your DM agrees on the switch to Asmodeus.  The Spell Compendium has a planar domain for Baator, which gives you the ability to see in darkness like a devil if you don't otherwise have that (as a planar domain, it counts as both domain choices, but is commensurately stronger); it might suit you well on the flavour side of things, and would reasonably be a domain for a cleric of Asmodeus.  But it's not mandatory if you've got something particular in mind for your domain choices.

I'm not too keen on Asmodeus's domains (except Diabolic which seems kinda neat) so I will look into the Baator planar domain. I guess before I go any furthur for the Battle Blessing feat do I have to BE a paladin or do I just have to make sure the cleric spells I'm applying it to are also on the paladin list? Because that feat is awesome enought that I'm seriously considering a paladin of tyrrany base instead of cleric.

See if your DM will let you take "Prestige Paladin of Tyranny" or whatever ala TS's Dread Lord of the Dead
