Hello!

I'm starting up in a campaign soon as an 8th level character, and will probably be hitting 9 at the end of Saturday's game. I've got a pretty good lead in to the story arch and so forth as a Human, 4 Paladin / 4 Bone Knight.

While playing around with trying to decide on feats, my buddy and I started glancing at some of the CorpseCrafter stuff. At first I was going to be building a small personal contingent of zombie guards or whatever, before I realized this stuff should apply to the mount. Now the idea is using these feats or something like it to really trick out the special mount / skeletal steed.

After playing around with some numbers, it looks like instead of the Heavy Warhorse, I'm going to be using a Dire Wolf mount. I know it loses some cool stuff from having the Skeletal template applied, but the idea of a big ferocious wolf skeleton is pretty awesome in its own right, and the corpse crafting stuff giving bonus cold damage and explosions and so forth is too tempting to pass up.

I'd like to have given it better special attacks, but the most compelling things I've seen require huge size, or some existing attack to augment.

Can anyone reccomend some feats, spells, gear, or otherwise that I should look into to make this thing even more terrifying? I'm not really looking to break the game, but I generally end up being underpowered compared to other characters in the past and don't really want to repeat that experience.

I think when the character features I have on my guy are totaled up, dead wolfie has something like 10d12 hit die, so if that helps to give a baseline.

I'm open to other ideas, but I'm mostly looking for advice on making what I've presented above better in combat.

Thanks muchly~

Well, I'd recommend moving your build over to Cleric 6/PrC Paladin 3/Bone Knight 10/Divine Caster 1. Then take the Holy Mount feat, which makes all divine casting levels stack for your mount, and note that PrC Paladin gives level + 3 to mounts, so your mount is a bit better... but more importantly your casting goes from suck to awesome, and you've still got all the important paladin bits.

Plus, this means you could use Divine Metamagic (be a human, take flaws, use appropriate domains to make sure you can still fit in your Corpsecrafter stuff) to buff your mount. Righteous Wrath of the Faithful, for example. And those group buffs buff your minions too!

Stuff that augments bites might help. Not quite sure what there is though. Something involving poison is likely though.

Venomfire is pretty ridiculous.
