I'am building a cleric but I've come to realize that, once in a anti magic zone its pretty much a hard knock life so am curious if anyone knows a way around anti magic field etc? I personally had a though to make a epic spell when I reach epic to get around but pls help

1) AMF is rare and designed to do exactly this. 2) that doesn't stop clerics, and clerics alone, from cheating it. Look up the Initiate of Mystra feat. 3) Even without that, there's the old wizard standby of having Shrink Item cast on a metal cone and putting it on your head like a tinfoil hat. When the AMF hits you, the Shrink effect ends and you get a metal tent around you.... which blocks line of effect to the emanation origin, so you can still cast. (Say, a teleport to escape.)

referring to INITIATE OF MYSTRA feat how does that work with spells that are currently activate at the moment such if you have divine power activate?

At least you're still a CLERIC in an AMF instead of a Wizard.  It may still suck but at least you've got twice the hp, better weapons, and probably armor to use when the magic goes down.  What's the wizard got?

An Anti-Magic field is one of those rare things that can bring some of those 'tier 1' characters down from the high horse and give those with more mudane abilities a chance to shine.

I'm not a fan of the tinfoil hat either (nor of Initiate of Mystra, thank you divine magic in the Realms.). But I'm also not a fan of how AMF is designed. I like the role it serves, but as an absolute binary effect with a unique tactical role, it'll either be rarely used (no need to cheese past it) or omnipresent (an arms race move that welcomes cheese). Figured I should be comprehensive, is all. (By the way, if I respond without quotes or carriage returns, I'm on my phone, which also has problems editing posts for clarity afterwards. Apologies.)

The other part that's inconvenient about it is all the on-the-fly recalculations as it shuts down magic items; I like the flavour of it, but it's a difficult execution.  If not for supernatural abilities, I'd prefer for it to be an antispell field.

I suppose if you wanted to give it some gradation, you could have it scale down caster level (and maybe apply some HD-based equivalent for supernatural abilities), allowing the caster to use their own caster level to squash everyone else's.  You could give it more flexibiliy by allowing the caster to choose (up to their own caster level) how strong they wanted to make the magic-suppressing field, though that may be unnecessary.

Doing that could potentially make it absurdly powerful. A no-spell/sla field would be one thing and might be useful to some NPC's (dragons, outsiders, etc) who could still use SU abilities, most other characters wouldn't benefit. A CL dependant field though would potentially trivialize a lot of encounters without harming the caster at all.

You know what any proper cleric has, a weapon.

There we go.

Most items that provide a teleport of their own (instead of, say, Spell Triggering a Dimension Door) to nonspellcasters require line of effect and line of sight. The only good exception I know of is the Boots of Big Stepping, and even there that's mimicking Greater Teleport.

Hey, guys, are you actually fighting over a metal cone? Come on! We need your knowledge and gray matter expenditure over more important stuff...
