I have a question and I've been searching the web and this forum with little luck and I thought "Well if this forum can generate insanely awesome adventurers, they're boound to know the answer to this: How does one achieve immortality in D&D 3.5 Edition? However there is one catch...I'm looking to turn an NPC immortal using either magical or other means outside of changing her race or class.
She's a half-elf (yea I know) sorcerer who has gone through the entire prestige class of Dragon Disciple. I know as a DM I could basically just bestow her with immortality and leave it at that, but I'd like to give it some roots that the players can wrap around their heads if you get my drift.
If i must I guess I could invent a magical item that bestows her that gift and slap it under House Rules/custom magical items for the campaign, but I'd rather use what's defined already in 3.5.

Several PrCs grant immortality. Green Star Adept and Cloud Anchorite off the top of my head.
Probably my favourite is still arranging a regular reincarnation.

Thanks for the reply/link. For some reason google didn't show that for me. Maybe I missed it, who knows. I'll look over it. As mentioned though, I'm not too keen on adding yet another prestige class. However, if there is no alternative, I suppose there would be a PrC that could suit her.

There is a spell in the Book of Vile Darkness that lets you drain the life out of others to increase your own lifespan.
There is an artifact somewhere that also stops aging (based on The Portrait of Dorian Gray).
I'm quite sure these last two are discussed in the thread that was linked above, though. Your best bet is to just look through that, instead of reinventing it here...

Killoren from Races of the Wild are a race that are effectively immortal. Pretty neat racial features, too. I realize that wouldn't help a character already in use, but good for future reference.
Well, the 10th level of half-dragon gives her the dragon type. That should make her live longer, but I'm not sure if it is spelled out just how long.
There is a spell in the Book of Vile Darkness that lets you drain the life out of others to increase your own lifespan.

If I had seen that I don't think I would have created the thread....well come to think of it perhaps I would have because I would have loved to hear yoour opinions on the best method for my characters case (which is pretty much what we're looking at now)

I saw on the link posted above Wedded to History feat (from Dragon 354), which may be what you're thinking of. It seems interesting and from the description, I would have had to have it at level 1, but according to PHBII (as the very onformative link says) there's a way to rebuild characters.
So far, I'm starting to lean towards that. I'll just have to delve into Dragon 354, and PBHII and see if all works out the way I would want it to.

Dragon 354 is what you want. The spell "Kissed by the Ages" is in there and it causes you to stop aging. The spell is instantaneous and creates a magic ring that as long as you where you do not age. It has an xp cost to cast and you cannot cast it on yourself, but maybe what you are looking for. Basically any character can have it for roughly 37,000gp is you pay someone to cast it on you.

Yea I got my hands on 354 now and I'm going to look through it.Looking thru it seems like Kissed by the Ages is the path to go since I don't want to make major changes to the character. The article in 354 is very interesting though and I may use it in other campaigns.
Why is it that when a good guy wants immortality he/she gets it without any comprises, but when the bad guy seeks it he/she invariably ends up an undead (such as a lich), sell his/her soul to a dark god, has to steal lifeforce/souls, needs a nasty mcguffin, or some combination thereof? And even when Lord Evilguy has sacrificed 666 thrice-raped orphans to his dark-god-and-master, Cthuckyou, using The Black Spork of Gygax to become an immortal anthropomorphic clownfish, some rag-tag group of shmucks just come in and kill him a couple centuries later.
It also has some nifty Essentia abilities that flow well with the Necrocarnum PrC.
Probably not what you were looking for but for others looking for immortality it may help I guess.
