3.5 Feral Template???

Is there a WOTC 3.5 update to the Feral Template in Savage Species?  DM is ok with me using if there is No formal 3.5 update to the template.   I've seen a lot of various post on various sites and there is some debate on the templatebut I'm looking for something formal.  Anyone know of anything?

Savage Species is an awkward book that uses most of the 3.5 rules before they came out. It's obvious in the monster skill and feat progressions, which are standardized like in 3.5 instead of haphazard like 3e. Feral is usable as-is.

 

However, repeated rulings on it have shown that it only looks at racial hit dice when determining its benefits, which makes it a lot less desirable for PCs.
