#1 serlemon Oct 22, 2012 22:11:07	Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me plan out a mounted goblin build. I was thinking a goblin fighter or paladin on a riding dog, with the standard mounted feats, and a lance to take full advantage of the charge multiplier. I was also considering taking levels in the cavalier PrC. I figured a small character mounted would work out much better than a medium, as I could actually fit myself and my mount into dungeons.

#3 Maat_Mons Oct 23, 2012 0:17:24	Taking levels of druid gets you an animal companion. However, if you want it to keep up as you level, you'll need to stick with druid (or something that stacks for animal companion). Ranger's animal companion falls behind no matter what. The wild cohort feat gives you an animal companion tied to your character level instead of your level in some class. It's possible to use a familiar as a mount, but there are obstacles. You'll need the improved familiar feat to get one big enough to ride. The urban companion alternative class feature gives you a familiar without the normal problems. The problem with using urban companion and improved familiar is that the latter has arcane caster level requirements. Dragon 326 has an alternative combat style for ranger that gives ride-by attack, spirited charge, and trample as its feats.

The wild cohort feat gives you an animal companion tied to your character level instead of your level in some class. This I like. I could use it to get myself a riding dog mount. Where can I find rules for using Handle Animal to train the dog as such?

A good mount handbook to get you started can be found :  brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.p... Also, are you sold on being a goblin? Otherwise, halfling is a solid choice for Halfling Outrider. Consider: Halfling Paladin / Ranger / Beastmaster / Halfling Outrider / Ashworm Dragoon ... or some such combination. ...I think a halfling riding an ashworm is hilarious, especially since they have a burrow speed.  Imagine a halfling popping out of the ground on one of these things, charging something, then burrowing again.

It's kind of funny that goblins don't get a mounted prestige class or something (though it's obviously because they're not a PC race) since they're the best riders anywhere near their ECL simply due to their comparatively massive racial bonus combined with a good Dexterity.  Never mind that they're also one of the most stealthy since they've also got a Move Silently bonus that directly pairs their size bonus...
