3.5 Is it possible to make the character in the picture?

Aug 14, 2013 0:56:18 Hey, I found this picture online and would be very interested in playing her in one of my D&D 3.5 games. For this, let us say any official WotC material are open for use (this is just to get an idea, then I can ask the DM about allowed books and fix it up from there).

Also, as it is possible to play someone by looks as almost any kind of character, obviously I would like the dragons too. I may settle for one, but 3 is preferable. And the character doesn't need to be completely optimized, although I would prefer not a squishy character that looks good but can't do anything (while that statement sounds like I am asking for a complete build, I am not, just ideas about how to build it).

Aug 14, 2013 1:23:39 Do they need to grow up? Apart from simply raising them by relatively character-independent means (find eggs, make checks, raise dragons) or recruiting them as cohorts, you could easily include a few pseudodragons with Leadership.

Or if you went to 10th level as a Thrallherd, you could have some relatively advanced dragons as your two thralls, and maybe add the Dragon Cohort feat to that for a third one (depending on whether your DM allows the feat to work on a thrallherd).

Just a couple of initial thoughts.

Aug 14, 2013 3:34:39 Dragon Familiar, Extra Familiar, Extra Familiar. They won't grow up to menace nations while under your service, but that might give you a start.

Replace one of the Extra Familiars for Leadership or similar to grab yourself a human and you can run a dragon spellcaster.

Cast Disguise Self on your Raven and then Mirror Image on it for the same image but with none of the investment.

Nice. And simple. I didn't think of Extra Familiar myself, since it's from Dragon magazine.

In terms of dragon familiars, you could say I wasn't familiar with the feats from Dragon.

Aug 14, 2013 5:45:35 Is Extra Familiar official WotC material? I know some Dragon magazines are published by different companies, but I haven't looked at them much so I do not know much of the details myself.

And if I did go that route, it seems like I could get 3 draconic familiars by 9th level if I am a human, but it would eat up all my feats. Any more cost effective way to do it, would the pay off be worth more than a cool looking character, or am I looking at nothing but a face if I go this build?

As for the other suggestions, I would want to start with my dragons instead of finding and raising them in game, plus most DM's ban Leadership (I believe both of mine do too). And as for the Thrallherd, it is a possibility but looks like it would need some serious optimization if I were to go that route.

At the least you can watch Game of Thrones, if you haven't already. You won't regret it! . But if you don't want a too squishy character you could play a Battle sorcerer (Unearthed Arcana, page 56 ) with the Stalwart Sorcerer (Complete mage, page 36) alternative class feature, and then pick the Dragon familiar and extra familiar feats.
