With only those books, it's quite reasonable not to take a prestige class. Loremaster is pretty easy for a wizard to get into and offers decent abilities. Archmage is also an option, but is harder to get into and requires giving up spells.

Extend spell and quicken spell are typical choices. Silent spell, still spell, and eschew materials could be useful if your DM likes to make casting spells difficult, but not otherwise. Point blank shot and precise shot can be good if you target ranged touch attack spells into melee. Feats for crafting magic items can be good if your DM gives you plenty of time between adventures. Improved initiative is good if you don't have anything else you want to take.

Humans and gnomes are good for casters.

If you play a wizard and specialize, conjuration is considered one of the best schools and evocation is considered the worst.

Core-only wizards need to worry more about their spell selection than their prestige class.
