I don't think DR 2/- is very impressive at 17th level, and taking more than one level of marshal doesn't improve your minor auras except to let you switch which save you boost. If you want to be a dedicated party booster, I suggest war weaver (Heroes of Battle 112). It allows you to affect all your allies with one single-target buff spell and eventually store four buff spells and use them all on your allies as a move action. Are you allowed Dragonlance material? The dynamic priest feat (Legend of the Twins 12) changes your spellcasting ability for a divine spellcasting class to charisma, except for save DCs (just like favored soul). The war mage prestige class (Age of Mortals 48) lets you add your charisma bonus the the AC of three allies. Your feat choices seem pretty bad, except for leadership, which is ridiculously good. I don't recommend you focus on healing. The faster enemies die, the less damage party members will take. Making the party more effective, or the enemies less effective is much more efficient. |

They may share a few required abilties but taking Marshal lowers your caster level and makes you get spells slower so your spells are weak and not very good after around level 10 or so, and the Favoured Soul interupts your Marshal levels meaning that your Aura is weaker and not useful in the higher levels either. By level 20 you'll have some cool effects that make you decents against weaker enemies but you'll have a seriously hard time taking out anything thats at your level or stronger. If you really want a character that has healing and supports the party with Aura bonuses try the Dragon Shaman (PHB 2). With a high charisma you can deal out amazing amounts of healing and you get an aura that is about as powerful as a Marshals Major Aura, and at level twelve you can take Double Draconic Aura (Dragon Magic) to project two Auras at once. On top of that you get a breath weapon, immunities and wings. If your set on the Marshal/Favoured Soul build though, let us know and we'll help toughen it up. |

The build would look something like this. Marshal2/Paladin3/Favored Soul 15 I think that might work better because I get to use charisma mod for all saves because of paladin levels. btw are the paladin variants in UA actuall worth it. I mean is immunity to compulsion effects better than immunity to fear. Granted spells like power word kill are neutralized as are most of the spells from the divination school. I guess this question might be to "campaign" specific. Are there any races with a good bonus to charisma. I don't mind if their small just as long as they don't have a level adjustment? |
| #5Maat_MonsFeb 06, 2011 2:36:03 | If allowed, I'd use prestige paladin (Unearthed Arcana 70). You'd have to take a level of sacred exorcist (Complete Divine 56) to qualify. The -2 to saves from aura of despair can be quite good. I'd prefer aura of resolve to aura of courage since immunity and resistance to fear seem to be much more common and cheaper than resistance and immunity to compulsions. Also, someone who fails a save against a compulsion effects might be forced to attack his allies, but someone who fails a save against a fear effect is at worst taken out of the fight and might just suffer some penalties. Hellbred (Fiendish Codex II 78) can give you +2 cha and -2 con. Spellscale (Races of the Dragon 21) gives you +2 cha and -2 con. Star elf (Unapproachable East 10) gives you +2 cha and -2 con. Lesser aasimar (Monster Manual 209 combined with Players Guide to Faerun 191) gives you +2 wis and +2 cha. Since most of those races take a penalty to con, you'd probably want to apply the dragonborn of Bahamut template (Races of the Dragon 5). That gives +2 con and -2 dex and doesn't change your level adjustment. Your DM might require you to select Bahamut as your patron if you're going to use that template, but heavy pick isn't a bad weapon. |
