| #1blink18247Jun 19, 2010 12:18:30 | Ok so i'm starting a new game with some people in a new module, well i want to roll a rogue that i will later maybe take into assassin or something similar, i'm unsure yet so if you have any suggestions let me know well basically we're starting 2nd level double the usually starting gold and get 1 magical item 2500g or less..... and my characters a Whisper Gnome and i get to use hero stats. we can pick anything from any book and any race etc. just have to be able to supply the information when playing....so i decided on whisper gnome for right now so if you could help me with stuff to do from level 1-20 like feats, stats or whatever you can, would be great since this will be my first time actually making my own character :/ thanks ahead of time and hopefuly you guys put some 1337 stuff up! |

If you just want a generic rogue, there are literally thousands of builds available with a simple google search. If you want something specific, ask for that... not just random "1337 stuff". Honestly, if this is the first time you've ever made a character, I'd say you should probably just put together some builds through level 20 and see how you like them. It'll give you some ideas of what you want out of a rogue build. Tips: Weapon Finesse is your friend, and with any precision damage build you should be thinking about how you're going to get that damage consistently. |

Rogues aren't really my thing, as I usually opt for casters, but assuming you have a high dex and low str, I'd say yes, weapon finesse. You also want Improved Initiative. You may want to consider multi-classing into swordsage for Tiger Claw maneuvers, as they offer several high damage options other than sneak attack and work well with TWF... including a nice series of attacks that allow you to treat your opponent as if he was flat-footed if you beat a Jump check. Swordsage also has all the necessary class skills to qualify for assassin, and Shadow Hand maneuvers and stances would help your sneak attack/death strike. Possibly rogue4/swordsage1/assassin2/swordsage1/assassin or swordsage advancement, using weapon finesse for, say, kukris. That sends you into assassin with evasion, uncanny dodge, trapfinding, a LOT of skills, a decent stance (Island of Blades is recommended), some decent maneuvers in tiger claw and a few cherries from other disciplines. Then your second stance can grant you an extra +2d6 SA. So open fights with a couple of shots from light crossbows for lots of early SA, then move into melee with a stance change for easy flanking. Use maneuvers as necessary to inflict status effects (like flat-footed) or change your battlefield position. Be sure to aquire the weapon augments allowing you to sneak attack undead, constructs, etc. You can use your feats to advance your TWF. I'd look into skill tricks or other ways to use your extremely high skills in combat... there are several skill tricks that rogues just love. Note: all this will make you a damage powerhouse from levels 5-14 or so, but you'll start to fade rapidly after that. Most melee builds do. EDIT: Note that intelligence should not be high priority for you, as you can use items and eventually wish/tome bonuses as necessary to raise the stat for assassin spell-casting. Max Dex, and high wisdom isn't a bad idea since swordsage will give you Wis to AC, as well as allowing you to use some sick good Shadow Hand maneuvers effectively later in life. Str is also unimportant... you have weapon finesse for hitting things and SA, maneuvers, etc. for damaging them. Your priority should be Dex>Con=Wis>Int>Str=Cha. |

| #6gorfnad_the_shiznitJun 23, 2010 1:17:51 | You may want to look through this (it's new and up to date): The Rogue Handbook: A Fistful of d6 Depending on the campaign two feats that combo together for a whisper gnome rogue are Magic in the Blood and Silencing Strike, if you have room for them. Otherwise do pick up the feat Craven, since it is always nice for rogues. |
