The basic idea: Races have various differences in attributes and abilities, and any given build of a particular class will have different attribute requirements/synergies and synergies with racial abilities; this lets you mess around with your priorities and pick a "best fit" based on your criteria. The spreadsheet only supports the PHB races so far; I'll update the post once I put in the MM races.
