| #1deathpsykerMay 09, 2009 19:15:23 | My DM is ending his current campaign and for fun he thought I should try and make an 8th Level Warforged Artificer to take down the good party. When I presented him particular builds that did ridiculous damage with wands(due to persisting twined and maximize metamagic infusion on the wands) he decided that it would be too unfair for the good party so I have certain restrictions. They are: No Maximize Spell as a feat known or on any items used. No Twin Spell as a feat known or on any items used. I can use only one metamagic feat per magic item. I have effectively 70,000 GP to use. Ignore any and all exp penalties associated to item costs. Only gold matters. The party I am trying to kill is as follows: Level 8 Kobold Sorceror. (He's really damn weak, spent all his feats giving himself wings) Level 6 Soulbow. (Again pretty weak but he can hide fairly well) Level 10 Human Celestial (used savage species progression) The next two players my DM threw a bone to since he thought it would be a good idea to give them a handicap rather than encouraging them to find a way to optimize their guys to be in league with the rest of the party: 8th level Warlock, has the death knight template, so ECL 13. Level 6 Crusader, has Half-Stone Golem as a template. He's immune to magic. This added a +2 Level adjustment, so ECL 8. So thats basically it. I can make wands and scrolls of up to 4th level spells, and so far, I'm thinking of persisting several spells on myself such as fly and greater invisibility, then nuking them with scorching rays and fireballs. Any suggestions towards what I should be making would be greatly appreciated. |

Protection from good immediately comes to mind as a cheap way to get some protection. Also, it'd be fun to charm or dominate a couple of them and turn them upon themselves (while remaining invisible and silent) so, some sort of way to communicate telepathically would be needed. |
| #3deathpsykerMay 09, 2009 19:44:21 | their abilities to heal are quite limited, so yes, part of the basic plan is to snipe them from the sky. |
| #4true_shinkenMay 09, 2009 19:47:09 | That's like the worst way to end a campaign I'v ever heard about. "Hey guys, how about I get some guy to make an overpowered character to simply kick the **** out of the characters you guys have been playing for the whole year? And then I'll end the campaign, hopefully before you guys throw your dices at my face and go away." |
| #5gryfterMay 09, 2009 19:49:32 | their abilities to heal are quite limited, so yes, part of the basic plan is to snipe them from the sky. The warlock is going to pose the biggest problem. Do you know what invocations he has? And can you use that to your advantage or is that considered metagaming? |
| #6gryfterMay 09, 2009 19:58:41 | That's like the worst way to end a campaign I'v ever heard about. Maybe the character's want to start over fresh too...you never know. Or maybe the DM wants to start an evil campaign in the same world, using this as a kick off. criticizing others role-playing decisions, especially without knowing any facts, is asinine. If you don't want to help, don't... |
| #7deathpsykerMay 09, 2009 20:04:36 | The warlock is going to pose the biggest problem. Do you know what invocations he has? And can you use that to your advantage or is that considered metagaming? As far as I know, he has invocations that will let him fly and he has eldritch blast. I can use the full knowledge of the party to my advantage and it is not metagaming. This final encounter is part of a large scale battle between the good city and the evil npcs, and my side has double agents in the city who are going to sabotage the good party's efforts and they provided me with all the info on the good party. |

Obviously dispell won't work, but I believe there is a spell that "locks" flying creatures to the ground. Not sure what level or what spell list though. Or some way to grapple him continously. Bigby's? Then, if he doesn't have eldritch spear, you just have to stay a little ways away from him. He'd also be the best candidate to dominate. |
| #9deathpsykerMay 09, 2009 20:16:29 | Dominating him may prove to be difficult, because Warlock's have good will saves do they not? |

Bigby's? 3rd level druid/cleric spell "Downdraft", Spell Compendium. Useful. |
| #11deathpsykerMay 09, 2009 21:26:57 | ah yes, I'll be sure to prepare a scroll of that. Also, he has the death knight template, so couldn't I cause some major damage to him with some anti-undead spells? Which ones would be the most devastating? |
| #12sofawallMay 09, 2009 21:28:08 | I'd get a wand, just to keep smacking them into the dirt. Make sure you don't run out. |
| #13casualgathererMay 09, 2009 21:35:43 | TRy to avoid the Anti-undead wands. He will cry bloody murder unless at least one other player is also an undead. |
| #14deathpsykerMay 09, 2009 21:46:59 | Doesn't really matter to me if he cries bloody murder since that is what it is. So what spell should I put in the wand? Searing light? |
| #15thompsjaMay 10, 2009 0:16:46 | Hm. 9th level makes it little easier with another feat (Wand Mastery). Get a wand of Scorching Ray, and use the Metamagic item with Empower spell. The nasty thing you can do is with Wand Mastery, you can raise caster level by two. It's a ninth level wand, and Wand Master raises caster level to 11th, granting the 3rd ray. With Empower, you can do 18d6 damage with it, every round. You need scrolls of Divine Power, and in Melee, wear Psychoactive Skin: Ectoplasmic Armor. Use Item Alteration to change the bonus on the skin to be Insight bonus. The Warforged should have the his natural armor enchanted up. You can easily enchant a bunch of Arrows of Slaying, and enchant the bow to have extended range. Use the arrows of slaying to take down the big guy, pop a Bane (whatever the most dangerous). For the Golem, cast "Inflict damage" Use web or entangle to prevent the others from taking damage. An Artificer who knows his opponents and has plenty of time to prepare is a formidable opponent. |
| #16hijaxxMay 10, 2009 7:34:06 | command undead on the warlock, use your metamagic infusion to boost the save DC (heighten). MWAHAHA Now who's going to fly up and do anything about us? Can that metamagic item infusion stack with itself? if so, a wand of split ray twin spell maximized empowered enervation will create 4 rays of 6 negative level. 1 dead party coming right up! |
| #17deathpsykerMay 10, 2009 9:02:28 | command undead on the warlock, use your metamagic infusion to boost the save DC (heighten). MWAHAHA Now who's going to fly up and do anything about us? this is exactly what my DM was worried about and if you read the initial post, things like twin spell and maximize are banned. |
| #18hijaxxMay 10, 2009 10:09:48 | crap. the thing i dont understand is, he wants you to beat a party with an average party level of 9, with a level 8 artificer. according to the DMG, the party is a CR 14 encounter. thats very very high. and the DM wants you not only to provide a challenge, you actually have to be fairly sure to beat them. And yet he bans anything 'broken' |
| #19deathpsykerMay 10, 2009 11:26:15 | I agree to a certain extent. However, I feel a lot of the party will go down fast. I can pretty much just one shot the sorc, and a couple of searing light blasts from scrolls upon the warlock should bring him down. I will be engaging in shellgame with the soulbow and I am pretty confident I can win that. While I may die in the process, the whole reason behind this is that I am getting sick of how their party cannot roleplay properly, so I stopped playing with them. So this is kinda just to give the finger to them. It is unfortunate but most of the people I play with and the dm have severe ADHLAS, and so it is kind of hard to run anything with any kind of consistency. On a side note, perhaps we could get a list of buffs/spells I should persistent on myself? So far I'm thinking: mirror image blur fly greater invisibility cat's grace eagle's splendor fox's cunning protection from good stoneskin shield |
| #20hijaxxMay 10, 2009 14:28:49 | buff list looks good. greater invisibility persistent... uhmmm..... get a lens of ray widening (lords of madness), and shoot an empowered enervation through it. 1d4 x 1.5 negative levels in a cone. Yeeeesh. Or if we want to get really nasty.. step forward energy admixture! Bam! Double damage! 16d6 damage firelecticity ball anyone? widen spell? empower? |

You have a problem with how they roleplay and so you are going to show up with a character created specificaly to kill the whole party? Oh, my, that's SO mature. |

| #23sofawallMay 10, 2009 23:48:06 | The U.S. said the Nazis were bad. The Nazis said the U.S. was bad. Repeating someone else doesn't magically make them wrong. It is possible for someone to be wrong. My vote is you, actually. Trying to kill off your old party because they have ADHD, apparently. |
| #24dr_rocktopusMay 10, 2009 23:52:24 | Godwin's Lawl Just buy a staff of locate cities, use The Trick and blow the whole place to hell, then peace out. This is foolishness, I think, but if you're gonna be grandiose, be grandiose. I think you have metamagic trigger at this point, right? |
| #25deathpsykerMay 11, 2009 20:15:50 | What is this trick you speak of? I am interested to learn more. |
