| #1mervin_magnusJul 14, 2009 21:17:32 | Every now and then I hear of a "999" build. I understand it to be a build where you get lvl 9 spells for 3 classes. Do any of you guys have a link or a build to post? (I want to see if i can make it more optimized than it is) (plus I promised a friend I would make such a triple caster build for him) |
| #2SenevriJul 14, 2009 21:49:44 | well, outside some amazing shenani--- No, actually, I don't think it can be done without shenanigans. Getting two arcane and one divine may be possible via some unholy combination of Beholder Mage, Ur-Priest and SubChord. Also, some races do gain their own innate spellcasting which can be progressed. getting ninth divine, arcane and psionic is most likely impossible. Getting ninth divine, arcane and initiator is probably the easiest. Also there are other ways of getting equivalent spellcasting - like the Archivist, who, despite not technically being any sort of a full caster, nevertheless can learn any divine spell, and majority of arcane spells are available as divine through various means. Hm. Would a Geomancer be able to scribe any of their spells as either arcane or divine? |
| #3nice2meetuJul 14, 2009 22:55:52 | Hm. Would a Geomancer be able to scribe any of their spells as either arcane or divine? Well, geomancer change it when cast, not when prepared; I guess not. Else, southern magicians could do the trick. well, outside some amazing shenani--- Agreed^^ 999s use either beholder mage or southern magician (to qualify for sublime chord, which is nono according to Q&A). The arcane caster part causes problems. A close to 999, no shens: May I present, the 9985 Monk 1 Ardent 4 Ur-Priest 1 Psychic Theurge 6 (ur 7 – A 10) Nar Demonbinder 1 Mystic Theurge 3 (Ur 10 – ND 4) Cerebremancer 3(ND 7 – A 13) Swordsage 1 (or whatever, but cut the 5 then) ML: 17 including practised manifester (9th) DCL: 14 (9th) - 10 caster Ur-Priest + 8 non Ur caster / 2 (magic - psionic transparency, so Ardent = Caster) ACL: 8 (8th) - 1 class level of Ur-Priest + 1 ND + 6 added CLs. Can be reasoned to CL 17 (Ur-Priest advanced CL, if insane 21), but +2 CL / MT is already ~~ IL: 10 (5th) Fails the triple 9: Nar Demonbinder caps at 8th. There is a little IL action, as a makeup. Could work gameplay-wise: it is an Ur-Priest, with a little delay and no turning. Might work in a "no DMM" environment. There is still a level for the chopboard to get turn undead. I prefer a straight Ur-Fist. Maybe for the fluff (my gods shun me divine casting for using this weapon ~~). Edit: DMM version Monk 1, Ardent 4, Ur-Priest 2, Psychic Theurge 4 (ur 6 – A 8), Nar Demonbinder 1, PsyTheu +1 (Ur 7 – A 9), Mystic Theurge 2 (Ur 9 – ND 3), Cerebremancer 4 (ND 7 – A 13), Swordsage 1 |
| #4surrealJul 15, 2009 0:30:42 | Ardent 5/Beholder Mage 1/Ur-priest 2/Cerebremancer 4/Psychic Theurge 4/Mystic Theurge 4 Look up Lord of Procrastination's dirty trick #1 to qualify for Beholder Mage. You have a little bit of wiggle room between cerebremance, psychic theurge, and mystic theurge, depending if you want more spell slots or higher manifesting. In terms of progression, I would snag Ur-priest 2/psychic theurge 4 early on, then Beholder Mage 1/Mystic Theurge X in order to max out divine casting and possibly DMM silliness as early as possible. After that, round up your arcane and manifesting. |
| #5dr_rocktopusJul 15, 2009 1:53:12 | Would a divine/arcane/initiator suffice for your purposes? |
| #6mervin_magnusJul 15, 2009 6:22:42 | Would a divine/arcane/initiator suffice for your purposes? yes |
| #7mervin_magnusJul 15, 2009 6:48:12 | Ardent 5/Beholder Mage 1/Ur-priest 2/Cerebremancer 4/Psychic Theurge 4/Mystic Theurge 4 |
| #8PlzBreakMyCampaignJul 15, 2009 8:25:05 | If you are interested in a slightly WBL bending one, I have it. It achieves what many would consider impossible: the three full (not just 4th to 9th) main caster progressions (cleric, wizard/sorc, and psion). Beware though. This is not territory for those afraid of strong opti-fu |
| #9mervin_magnusJul 15, 2009 11:53:49 | If you are interested in a slightly WBL bending one, I have it. I would love to see it. And im still wondering if there are 999 builds including initiators and/or warlocks. (the warlock i understand as improbable) |
| #10surrealJul 15, 2009 11:54:47 | lol there is even a sliver of freedom in this build, there is 1 lvl to spare: 1 lvl from ur-preist can go into ardent or beholder mage. You're already a triple caster... what more do you need to optimize? Sigh, I suppose you could chop out a level of Ur-priest and dump Cha since you won't have turning. Then start with a bamboo spirit folk (OA) and replace mystic theurge with arcane heirophant. You'll have a couple extra class features, medium beef companion familiar, and possibly wild shape if you squeeze in that 5th level of AH. |

I was looking for an optimization challenge. since I was lost as to where to start I asked the boards. but you already posted a build that doesn't need improving =( there's no challenge in that... Still welcoming other 999 builds! |
| #12suzerainJul 15, 2009 14:02:04 | If you are interested in a slightly WBL bending one, I have it. With enough money, couldn't a Psion/Thrallherd get basically every spell and every power psichirred into his brain(s), plus leech pp off his cohorts/followers? That'd surely count? :P But yeah, cometh forth with the TO. |
| #13pithicaJul 15, 2009 15:46:57 | It's not exactly 999, but an Erudite with the 'Spell to Power' variant, should be able to pair with Ur-Priest and Psychic Theurge, to get effectively the same thing. He can manifest psion powers as normal for an erudite, cast cleric spells as normal for an ur-priest, and convert almost any arcane spell into a psionic power. Not exactly what you're probably looking for, but I'd be willing to bet it's more likely to see play than anything involving Beholder Mage. |
| #14mister_crowleyJul 15, 2009 19:17:00 | Every now and then I hear of a "999" build. Man what a challenge! After spending hours on this build I finally came up with one! Wizard 17/Psion 17/Cleric 17 |
| #15lo77oJul 15, 2009 19:46:59 | Ardent 5/Beholder Mage 1/Ur-priest 2/Cerebremancer 4/Psychic Theurge 4/Mystic Theurge 4 Ok, i think i rolled a 1 on my search or spot check here. But how do you get to be a beholder mage at level 6? I was under the impression you had to polymorph into a beholder to take it, and a beholder has 11 hit dice. |
| #16pithicaJul 15, 2009 21:16:31 | It's something to do with an Ardent ability and use of the 'Assume Supernatural Ability' feat, paired with (I think) Elan as a race (who are naturally Aberrations). I don't remember the specifics, but it was one of LoP's dirty tricks threads. |
| #17lo77oJul 15, 2009 21:20:17 | I get the idea about using 'Assume Supernatural Ability' and being an elan so you can turn into the beholder with Poly Any Object, and make it permanent, and get the antimagic eye and all that shiznit. What i dont get is how you do it before level 11, as the beholder has 11 hit dice, and you the entire polymorph line is limited by hit dice, or am i reading that wrong? |
| #18SenevriJul 16, 2009 5:42:35 | All you need is CL, or in this case ML 11, not actual 11 HD. HOW you get that from Ardent 5, I know not. Buy a use-activated item created at sufficient CL? Ardents had a weird rule where they can pick powers that match their ML, instead of being dictated by their Ardent level, I believe. |
| #19lo77oJul 16, 2009 6:50:19 | All you need is CL, or in this case ML 11, not actual 11 HD. "The assumed form can’t have more Hit Dice than your caster level (or the subject’s HD, whichever is lower)" From the polymorph line. |
| #20SenevriJul 16, 2009 7:09:00 | So, I think they're using Metamorphosis, then. the assumed form can have as many Hit Dice as your manifester level, to a maximum of 15. Funny that it's not been updated. |
| #21pithicaJul 16, 2009 8:34:15 | PAO does not have the hit dice limit based on the target. Otherwise, the listed examples of 'Lizard to Manticore' and 'Shrew to Manticore' would be impossible, since a lizard and shrew are both 1/4 HD creatures and a Manticore is a 6hd creature. |
| #22PlzBreakMyCampaignJul 20, 2009 10:14:50 | I would love to see it. Search is your friend. With enough money, couldn't a Psion/Thrallherd get basically every spell and every power psichirred into his brain(s), plus leech pp off his cohorts/followers? That'd surely count? :P What? I never exceeded ECL15 or so WBL. So no its not TO, its capitalism! Besides this actually had the spellslots ![]() |
