| #1saragon42Mar 26, 2008 12:40:37 | My half-fey strongheart halfling Enchanter just hit 9th level last night, and I'm a bit torn on which feat to take. I've come up with a few ideas, but I wanted to get the CO community's input and see if there were any good outside-the-box suggestions. My DM hasn't really limited books thus far, but I believe specific setting books are probably out - we haven't had cause to ask yet, though. Banned schools: Abjuration, Evocation Existing build stub: (Bonus feats in [brackets]) 1. Wizard (Fey Heritage) (*) [Scribe Scroll] [Fey Heritage] 2. Wizard 3. Wizard (SF: Ench) 4. Master Specialist [GSF: Ench] 5. Master Specialist 6. Master Specialist (Fey Power) [Skill Focus: Spellcraft] 7. Master Specialist 8. Wild Soul 9. Wild Soul (?) *I can't remember what I took here -- if anything. If I screwed up and didn't take this feat, it'll be Improved Initiative. I'll be taking Wild Soul all the way, if that makes a difference. Here's my ideas for 9th level feats: Minor Shapeshift: The temp HP is the big deal here, `cause I'm fairly fragile -- 50 HP exactly. Empower SLA: Applied to Summon Seelie Ally, this would net extra creatures on summons. And the ability to summon up to 7 unicorns for free healing for the party is nice. Knowledge Devotion: Awesome, but I only have 3 knowledge skills - Nature, Planes and Arcana. I suck, I know. Flyby Attack: I only have a 40' move speed in the air, but that's a natural base speed and can be improved pretty easily. Sculpt Spell: Where the heck is this feat, anyway? Very good - I'm lacking a good set of group battlefield control/debuffs, and this will help what few I have be more effective. Empower Spell: Always handy, especially since I focus a lot on debuffs. Split Ray: Again, great for those debuffing rays. Cloudy Conjuration: Not even sure I qualify for this, and I'm not a conjurer. Doesn't make it any less useful, though. Diversified Spellcasting: (Dragon Mag.) Puts three spells from banned schools back on my spell list; dispel/greater dispel, AMF, and contingency seems to cover the three really useful spells from these schools. Haven't actually read the feat yet, just a summary, so I may have to pick all three from one school. If so, definitely the dispels and AMF. As I mentioned above, I'm really not very useful in containing groups of foes - I've got glitterdust, and I'll probably be taking solid fog as a known spell this level, but I'm mostly a single-target debuffer. Any thoughts? Again, other feat suggestions are welcome - these are just what i came up with looking through the Enchanter's Handbook, LogicNinja's 'Batman' guide, my own books, and DM's Wizard Handbook. |

| #4WyvernhandMar 27, 2008 11:12:05 | How about Spell Focus: Anything but Enchantment (or Evocation or Abjuration...banned). Then you would have 2x SF feats for 2 different schools and you would be ready to qualify for Archmage once you get the spells known and the skill ranks. Other than that, you can't go wrong with Quicken Spell. Actions are worth more than anything, and Quicken lets you take more actions in a round. If not, I'd 2nd Minor Shapeshift. You be WAY too squishy man. |
| #5vicen_korelMar 27, 2008 11:26:52 | Ok Grab Spell Focus Conjuration, then Augment Summoning to improve those called monsters some OR Grab Fey Skin to get some damage reduction, never hurts and can go farther than a few extra temp HP. |

If you want to make sure your debuff lasts the fight, Extend Spell will make sure the debuff lasts a while. 2. If you know a fight is happening and want a bit of a debuff jump-start, Earthbound Spell ( PHB2 I believe ) sets a "trap" to start a fight. I'll edit once my books arrive from the airport |

| #8saragon42Mar 27, 2008 13:06:03 | Ok Grab Spell Focus Conjuration, then Augment Summoning to improve those called monsters some The 3.5-updated Half-Fey template grants DR 5/cold iron, so I do have a bit already. Augment Summoning is really tempting - especially with the Summon Seelie Ally class feature - but with Quicken Spell waiting for me at 12th level, I'm not sure I could take it `til level 15. Would that be too late for Augment Summoning to make a difference? How about Spell Focus: Anything but Enchantment (or Evocation or Abjuration...banned). Is Archmage really worth it? I've only room for three levels pre-epic, and while Arcane Reach and Mastery of Shaping are nice, my gut feeling is that there's something better I could do for the last three levels. Still, Spell Focus (Illusion) would be interesting - it'd help to increase my trickster abilities, and at level 17 my Enchantment DCs would be +4 and my Illusion DCs would be +3. That's not insignificant... I do plan on taking Quicken Spell at 12th level. I left it off of my list of ideas simply because I lost a spell progression level at Wild Soul 1, and so don't have 5th level spell slots yet. Check out my enchanter's handbook - its in my sig. Believe me, most of the feats I've listed are from the Wizard Handbook or your Enchanter Handbook - and the Wiz 3 / MS 4 / Wild Soul 10 / XX build I'm using is lifted straight from it, I believe. It's a great resource, and you definitely deserve props for it. |
