| #1cosmo007Mar 05, 2010 19:57:15 | The DM for a game I'm entering soon has opened the door for playing martial adepts. And though I've already built him via psionics (DM is not allowing that. Bummer.), I thought it might be fun to try and at least emulate the abilities of one of my favorite video game characters, Luigi Mario. After reading the book cover to cover, and reading the ToB for Dummies Thread (Nice info by the way.), I have a basic idea of what I'm after. Now, I want to focus on the physical tricks of the green-shirted plumber; letting the "magical" effects come through as items ala potions or martial scripts and the like. For the class, I decided on Swordsage. Setting Sun Discipline fits very nicely IMHO, and Swordsage gets access from the start. I figured focusing on Tiger Claw, Setting Sun and Stone Dragon. Though, Stone Dragon and Tiger may not synergize due to the "must be on the ground" thing. Thought I might be able to ge thelp there. I also thought about Warblade as I don't want to get too "magicky" with this build. The abilities were done via random rolls (4d6, reroll 1's, then drop the lowest. I know.). I ended up with a decent array: 16, 15, 14, 14, 12, 10. I arranged them thusly: Str: 14, Dex: 15, Con: 14, Int: 10, Wis: 16, Cha: 12. This follows the advice of ToB. Not sure if that's the wisest thing though. The game is starting at 5th level, but as I already HAVE a character, I thought I'd build a backup. Ergo, Id like to have a progression from level 5 to level 9. Here's the level 9 build I have thus far: Luigi Show Male human swordsage 9 (Not Using Unarmed Strike version as DM is relatively new and I don't want to overload his brain. | #3cosmo007Mar 08, 2010 20:54:41 | So, after watching Nite's vid clips, I've decided that maybe Desert Wind maneuvers aren't really the worst idea. I would, however like some assistance in figuring out exactly what maeuvers are best at mimicing the overall scope of his abilities. Not necessarily in Smash Bros, but in the games as a whole. Again, power-ups like the Fire Flower and Raccoon Leaf can be covered by magic items. Also, some advice on classes. Should I stay Swordsage through level 20? Should I dip into Fighter or PsyWar? What would be a good PrC? That kind of stuff. Thanks though, Nite. I need to get Smash Bros. Melee ASAP. |
| #4NiteCyperMar 08, 2010 21:15:59 | Thanks though, Nite. I need to get Smash Bros. Melee ASAP. Let me put it this way, saying "I need to get Smash Bros. Melee" is like saying "I need to get (the old) Street Fighter". I hope you understand the implications. I suggest playing a straight Initiator (Swordsage, Crusader, Warblade) 20 to get a feel for the system unless this PC is for keeps. Reflavour as necessary. If you were to emphasize the hip/goomba-stop jump-on-head-for-MASSIVE-CRAB-damage, I'd suggest a "Hood", Dungeon crasher Fighter, and/or Warforged who lands for damage. Dragonfire Adept breath-weapon reflavoured. |
| #5cosmo007Mar 09, 2010 8:56:09 | Okay, critiques on my taste in video games aside, is there anything about my feat selection, maneuver selection, ability score assignment, skill selection or any gear suggestions that you all might have for me? Is Swordsage the best choice or could I get away with Warblade? Would Crusader be a good fit? That is the advice I seek. Thanks muchly! |
