| #1wuffellJun 02, 2008 7:39:37 | hi guys, i need help with this feat. basically, what are the best spells to use with this feat, and using archery to deliver the spell? please list both the spell name and book it comes in and remember it only allows touch spells to be cast through the weapon :Dthe character i want to use this feat with hasnt been decided yet. it might be an arcance archer of some sort (wiz or sorc or bard/sublime chord). that character would be able to channel touch spells through smiting spell, and area spells through the AA's imbue arrow. hrm, im sure that has potential for abuse ... i just cant think of _exactly_ how yet. ideas with true strike and mantshot delivering several touch spells via arrows springs to mind tho ... the character could also be a bard/sublime chord, or a wiz or sorc without the arcane archer levels IFF there are enough cool spells to channel through with smiting spell. there are other options, like a standard gist build. thats just to give some indication of the style of character. but back to the main question: what are the best spells to use with this feat, considering i will be using archery to deliver the spells? thanks everyone! |
| #2carnivoreJun 02, 2008 11:22:44 | here are some fun ones: Vampiric Touch Bestow Curse Greater Bestow Curse Harm :D |
| #3ronyonJun 02, 2008 16:31:52 | Smiting Spell page 92 of PHB II. Shivering Touch. Ghoul Touch. Chill Touch or Shocking Grasp-if the DM rules that it last for as many shots as it would have touches. I also use Blade of Blood(for extra dice of death) My Ninja/Cleric uses this(with Zen Archery). My main regret is not taking the Divine Metamagic with this.I use it with a spell storing bow, loaded with Soul Charge(heehee). Be sure to take ever opportunity to boost your DCs, and if you have a good solution for piercing SR, let me know! Spontaneous casters could be bad, since the meta-magic makes the casting time longer for them.Maybe the touch spell-ness would over ride this. Look at Consecrate Item and Profane Item from Complete Champion. Great on Arrows. Also, use splash weapons!Touch attack becomes ranged touch attacks, and the feat says the attack only has to hit for the spell to discharge. Use this for ranged healing, but use water bottles please! I dont know how your DM would adjudicate the effect of a single target spell on a splash weapon that hit more than one target, but even if it only affects one target, it would be great.Tangle foot bag anyone? Bolas and nets do much the same things. let us know how it works out. |
| #4wuffellJun 03, 2008 0:48:52 | Look at Consecrate Item and Profane Item from Complete Champion. its called sacred item for anyone lokoing for it ![]() thanks for the ideas so far guys, keep them coming! a cleric is looking more and more tempting ... also, what type of cool arrow types are there that would work with this? if i want an arrow to carry a heal spell to my ally, what arrow would i use? i know one that makes an arrow deal subdual damage, but is there one that wil do either no damage, or possibly heal an ally, or do something else cool as well as discharge a heal spell? |
| #5carnivoreJun 03, 2008 5:02:38 | also, what type of cool arrow types are there that would work with this? if i want an arrow to carry a heal spell to my ally, what arrow would i use? i know one that makes an arrow deal subdual damage, but is there one that wil do either no damage, or possibly heal an ally, or do something else cool as well as discharge a heal spell? try this: Arrow, Blunt(RotW p165),(DR349 p22) Bows Arrow with a blunt, leather wrapped head. Arrow damage is bludgeoning & subdual, critical 20/x2, x50% range :D |
| #6ronyonJun 03, 2008 17:57:34 | its called sacred item for anyone looking for it Doh! |
| #7wuffellJun 05, 2008 5:40:33 | try this: thanks, any more like this? maybe some sort of healing arrow instead? any other cool/cruel spells, especailly ones in the newer 3.5 books? thanks for the input so far everyone :D i plan to post a full list of the ones im considering, obviously after more research ![]() |
| #8IschtanJun 05, 2008 16:29:23 | Combust Dimension Hop Dispelling Touch Touch of Idiocy Inward Magic Circle Shivering Touch Some of them might not be that good damage dealing, but you can do neat stuff with them ;) |
| #9wuffellJun 07, 2008 19:18:54 | Combust thanks for that, dimension hop on an enemy would be rather funny. it could mean that it takes the enemy a long time to reach you hehe also, can someone clarify this for me. does casting the spedd into a weapon take you the normal casting time, and then you fire it in a separate action. ie, you need to cast this pre-combat. is that right? |
| #10runestarJun 07, 2008 21:57:40 | I think you cast and fire the arrow as part of the same standard action. Smiting spell would also let you deliver ranged heals. Pity it is discharged on the 1st hit, else you would be able to perform 60-ft line heals in tandem with penetrating shot...:P |
| #11wuffellJun 08, 2008 3:51:22 | I think you cast and fire the arrow as part of the same standard action. heh, 60-ft line heal would be funny ![]() anyone else have an opinion about casting and firing the arrow as part of the same standard action? it doesnt specifically say you can so i reckon it probably cant |
| #12w00tb33rJul 28, 2008 6:10:28 | It never says that you make an attack as part of casting the spell so it looks like you spend a round casting then a round attacking. The spell will stay in the arrow/sword/whatever for one minute and it doesn't say you can't cast cast cast cast cast cast then attack. Really disgusting if you are ambushing someone. Spell matrix goes really good with this feat as it has a better duration and will let you cast as a swift action. |
