Yes a human mount was a big topic of discussion in my gaming circle. One of the main things that i wanted to retain while choosing a better mount was the medium size catagory for optimal dungeon manuverability. However one of the main cons that come along with having a human as a mount you cant beat them (well as much as i would like to) without them running to the athorities. So i would like to stick to a beast or something like it.

Sure you can. Then you stab them in the goolies if they even think about running to the authorities. Then point to it as an object lesson when you get your second mount. You might have to clean up after it afterwards, but your second mount should get your... point. Humans are barely sentient, but they are smart enough to get this. Just.

Take a level of wizard or sorcerer, get a hawk familiar, cast enlarge person on the hawk and reduce person on yourself.

In core your options are going to be pretty limited. Your only real options for "upgrading" your mount is either through equipment (which will only help a little bit), changing to a better mount, or grabbing the leadership feat for a mount that levels with you. The last option is probably your best bet.

Not a bad idea. Although my damage output has been reduced significantly with my size being small, I’m not sure that I would want to reduce it even more (or my fighter lvl progression). I was looking at the celestial/feindish templates but I'm playing true neutral and neither of these appealed to me.

Take the mounted combat, ride-by attack, and spirited charge, and you won't even notice the reduced damage output due being able to do triple damage with a charge attack with a lance.
