P.S.: The quote about the Divine Power/Righteous Might Cleric being cheesy as opposed to three Wishes deserves a mention in the “Stupid Arguments Thread”, no? ;)
#2 gaffer Apr 27, 2008 11:37:30	Is using Wish by a BBEG to completely negate the PCs victory cheating? Undo misfortune. A wish can undo a single recent event. The wish forces a reroll of any roll made within the last round (including your last turn). Reality reshapes itself to accommodate the new result. For example, a wish could undo an opponent’s successful save, a foe’s successful critical hit (either the attack roll or the critical roll), a friend’s failed save, and so on. The reroll, however, may be as bad as or worse than the original roll. An unwilling target gets a Will save to negate the effect, and spell resistance (if any) applies. Unless the party kills the BBEG in one round, that use of a Wish is into the custom field... which the DM can allow. Anyways, DM undoing combats with Wishes isn't necessarily cheating, since the DM can do whatever (s)he wants, but it certainly is unfair, imbalanced, and unbelieveable. Your suggestions about illusions/summons/underlings is a far better way to handle it. That Siberys guy you quoted is wrong if he thinks that the way the DM used the spell is by the book, though. You may try to use a wish to produce greater effects than these, but doing so is dangerous. (The wish may pervert your intent into a literal but undesirable fulfillment or only a partial fulfillment.) /end stupid thread.

#4 bluedsteel Apr 27, 2008 13:00:26	I think the bigger problem is that the DM mentioned uses the last wish in the ring to undo stuff... then claims that it also means the use of the last wish is undone, so that Strahd can use the last wish again. To which I say... That DM SUCKS.
