| #1BloodDragonNov 04, 2008 14:44:34 | Sooo I’m finally starting an Anima Mage next session- for those of you with memory you might have heard me sing this tune before. However the DM has cracked down on me and handed picked out my spells known for me. Which isn’t all that bad I suppose, having me ran ramped with my choice of spells is a little dangerous… Now honestly I’m slightly annoyed with this. I know that I was aiming for a battle field control caster but he did not know that. I haven’t talk to my DM about this but I sure as heck plan to! In the mean time I would like to ask the Op Boards if there are a few tricks buried within the following spells that I should be aware of. I’m currently seeing red so maybe I’ll be able to see more clearly tomorrow. As of right now I see mostly a very defensive list focused on powerful self buffs, and some average blasting spells. The largest problem I have with this list is that it isn’t very team mate friendly as it simply focuses on: you. Dimension Shuffle was nice though. This spell list is actually 8 or so spells larger then a Wizard of my starting level should have. (Which is as a 10th level Wizard Starting Int of 18) Show 0 Only have 4 cantrips, most notably NOT detect magic. 1 Bigby's Tripping hand PHII 1 Burning Hands PHB 1 Enlarge Person PHB 1 Karmic Aura C.M 1 Lesser Deflect PHII 1 Mage Armor PHB 1 Magic Missle PHB 1 Protection from Good PHB 1 Shocking Grasp PHB 1 True strike PHB 2 Animalistic Power PHII 2 Bigby's Striking Fist PHII 2 Bigby's Warding PHII 2 Chain of Eyes SpC 2 Daggerspell Stance SpC 2 Deflect PHII 2 Protection from Arrows PHB 2 See Invisibility PHB 3 Bigby's Disrupting Hand PHII 3 Chain Missle SpC 3 Dispel Magic PHB 3 Fireball PHB 3 Karmic Backlash C.M 3 Repelling Shield C.M 3 Spellcasters Bane C.M 4 Forceward SpC 4 Ice Storm PHB 4 Rary's Mnemonic Enchancer PHB 4 Shout PHB 4 Slashing Dispel PHII 4 Stoneskin PHB 5 Cone of Cold PHB 5 Dimension Shuffle PHII 5 Mana Flux PHII 5 Reciprocal Gyre SpC 5 Refusal SpC 6 Globe of Invulerability PHB 6 Karmic Retibution C.M 6 Prismatic Aura C.M *Can't cast 6th level spells yet anyway. You've also got a few spells that work pretty well to shutdown the enemy caster if you get the drop on him. Do you have free Feats or are your Feats spoken for throughout the build? |
| #3BloodDragonNov 04, 2008 15:06:17 | Well throw some feats at me and I'll see if they can be worked in. I'm happy with the feats I have but this has been a curve ball for sure. Precocious Apprentice, Metamagic Quicken, Spell Mastery, Uncanny Forthought, Improved Binding, Ignore Speical Requirment, Metamagic Twin spell, Scribe Scroll Flaws: Phantom Spark and Haunted All other feats- such as level 12 which is next level- are open. Also add Chain of Eyes to that list. And I edited my orginal post to add a question on Spell mastery. Repelling shield is a personal spell that functions as shield plus a 5ft knock back when struck. Edit: Story concluded So in the end I talked to my DM and he allowed to pick out 1 spells per spell level that I could cast, in addition to the spell list he's given me. Not entirely want I wanted, but then again he didn't want me picking out my own spells at all. So we compromised, I'm not entirely happy about it but I can deal with what I have. There needs to be more stories around where situations were worked out with the DM. Espically around here. Not every campaign can be "fixed" by making a DM cry- Not that I haven't done that myself but it's just not the right thing to do. Sometimes you just need to talk- The DM himself is a friend after all. |
