I'll start off by saying I really like the group I play with, it's about the perfect mix of Combat and RP. The RP factor is a constraint when picking races or classes. My fellow players also don't like being automatically stuck with some of the dirty jobs, so I might be in a party with Clerics who can't spontaneously Cure Wounds or Rogues who can't find traps. With that being said I don't really mind being a trapmonkey or a healbot, so I want to try and do a bit of everything and give my fellow players free liscence to play whatever they want. We also don't do Char gen together so I'm not sure what the party will need until gameday.

My build tries to be a Healbot, trap monkey, tank, face and utility caster. Which as you can guess kind of diminishes my own power, but I still want to not suck in combat.

How I plan to fill those roles:

Healing : Spells of Cure X Wounds and Heal, maybe one or two other spells to help ability damage or status effects. The rare stuff like stone to flesh will have to be done with scrolls.

Trapfinding : Search is a prereq for Unseen Seer, I'll put a few ranks into Disable Device but usually it's enough to find the trap, the party can help disable it.

Melee Combat : I want to boost my AC, specificaly my touch AC. I'm going to use a shield with the feat Shield Ward which adds shield AC to touch AC and as a bonus against Grapples/Disarms/Bullrushes/Trips. I'll also use the spell Heroics to Add fighter feats, our DM ruled that the feats granted stack.

Face : Sense motive is a prereq for Unseen Seer, I'll also add 5+ ranks of Diplomacy and Bluff for the synergy bonuses.

Utility Caster : All Wizard, Cleric and Druid spells are on my class list, who needs UMD?

Battle Plan :
This build gets a lot of d4s for hitpoints, so even with my Con score it's a little foolish to be on the frontlines. Against low priority targets I can just hit them with my spell storing Battle Axe, against tougher foes I can either cast defensively or use some combination of Power Attack, Wraith Strike and Arcane Strike.

If you can convince him to let you bring in an artificer(from Eberron CS), they are very good at role-filling. In fact, I've wondered what an Artificer/Chameleon would be like...

Not a bad build/approach.

I'd recommend the extra level of generic caster for the bonus feat.

Finally, why unseen seer? I tend to think of that as a fit when you are planning on using targeted HP damage ... is that your approach? Likewise, arcane strike seems like a mediocre way to spend a spell slot, especially when the thick of battle is exactly where you *don't* want to be.

There are a number of stronger choices for a utility character than unseen seer. I'd actually recommend either Anima mage or soulcaster as the way to go. (Anima mage is a powerful and quite effective fit for what you desire).

I do like your use of generic classes.

Finally, what level do you start at?

Very Best,
David

I'm starting at level 1, that's why the shield feats are at the beginning to increase survivability (our DM doesn't pull punches).

Unseen Seer is great because it has full arcane casting, 6 + int skill points and 3/4 BAB. It also gives bonus spells which is great for the Generic Caster because of its limited spells known.

I plan on doing HP damage mainly in weaker encounters, I'll have some Save-or-Suck spells for the more difficult encounters. I won't be the primary caster (probably) so I can help screen them from enemies, I've played an Unseen Seer before and as long as you buff con you'll have adequate survivability.

What books are Anima Mage and Soulcaster from?

If I had to pick one, I'd definitely pick Anima Mage.

It is from the Tome of Magic.

Also, you plan to fill a melee combat role, and I think I'd recommend against that ... it is spreading yourself pretty thin. You're taking Arcane strike because of it, partly taking unseen seer because of it, starting out as a generic warrior, etc. However, I don't think these choices will collectively give you the power you need, and will water down your other abilities.

I'd suggest focusing more on the offensive magic aspect, and less on the melee aspect.
