| #1carnivoreFeb 10, 2009 15:52:05 | Background Story: As a young child .... Sir Hubert, or Hugh as his friend call him, was tired of always being the Butt of Jokes. It seemed as if he was always bringing up the rear and never appreciated for his wide outlook on life. However as he matured, he started to see how he could really excell in life .... that was by Helping Others to accomplish things. He had a natural nack for helping out, and giving direction .... so he pursued his goal of becoming a Marshal. Here i present to you: 1/2 Fey lesser Aasimar Lesser Aasimar Lesser Aasimar +2 Wis +2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., light (sp), paladin, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 |
| #2ninjarabbitFeb 10, 2009 16:16:57 | LOL @ Sir William |
| #3jameswilliamogleFeb 10, 2009 16:43:18 | All those SLA's, and no Magic in the Blood feat?? There's got to be a convenient way to switch from Human to something else for that... Definitely worth 2 feats (and 23 skill points) to get like 20 more SLAs per day... |

| #5carnivoreFeb 11, 2009 4:44:23 | All those SLA's, and no Magic in the Blood feat?? There's got to be a convenient way to switch from Human to something else for that... Definitely worth 2 feats (and 23 skill points) to get like 20 more SLAs per day... the main drawback.... i would have to change Race.... but that would not necessarily be a bad thing: Magic in the Blood[Regional](Player's Guide to Faerûn) Prerequisite: Dwarf (Oldonnar or Underdark ), elf (Menzoberranyr), gnome (the Great Dale, Thesk, or Underdark ), planetouched (Calimshan, Mulhorand, or Unther), or spirit folk (Ashane). Benefit: You can use your racial spell-like abilities more often than you otherwise could. Any ability that is otherwise usable once per day is now usable three times per day. Special: You may select this feat only as a 1st-level character. You may have only one regional feat. Double Aura(RotD) Double Draconic Aura[General](Dragon Magic)Prerequisite: Character level 12th, ability to project two different draconic auras. Benefit: You can project two draconic auras simultaneously. You must activate or dismiss your draconic auras separately. i dont think it would work for a Divine Mind... since thier Auras are not considered Draconic Auras.... but the Marshal Major Auras are considered the same as Draconic Auras .... Divine Minds are up the creek, sorry ![]() :D |
| #6tshernFeb 13, 2009 5:03:21 | Would Lesser planetoucheds qualify for that feat? Lesser aasimar would not be a bad choice for the build at all with all the charisma synergy. Also, Motivate dexterity of this build is awesome. Think about the initiative bonus... |
| #7carnivoreFeb 13, 2009 5:05:50 | 1/2 Fey is better.... gives even more Cha, and Spell-like abilities, Flight(early in career when the character focuses on being a Face)... but best of all , the LA can be bought off... human is needed for the Feat(very important) :D |
| #8tshernFeb 13, 2009 6:07:48 | Half-fey can be applied to any living corporeal creature. Why could a Lesser planetouched not be a half-fey? |
| #9jameswilliamogleFeb 13, 2009 8:46:25 | Half-fey can be applied to any living corporeal creature. Why could a Lesser planetouched not be a half-fey? More Cha synergy and qualifies (probably) for Magic in the Blood, too. I like that suggestion . |
| #10obtusehobbitFeb 13, 2009 11:26:51 | First off love the build, I personally have been working on a marshal 20 for awhile myself. There is one issue your build has that I ran into with my attempts. Reading of the rules on draconic auras (pg 86 Dragon Magic). Major auras are not considered draconic auras but you can learn a Draconic Aura in place of a Major Aura. Relevent text bellow: text The marshal can learn any of the draconic auras presented here in place of a major aura. The bonus granted by a draconic Aura equals the bonus normaly granted by the marshals aura, and otherwise follows the normal rules for the marshals auras. It is also considered a draconic aura for all effects that apply to such auras, such as the Double Draconic Aura feat. |
| #11emansdrawkcabFeb 13, 2009 14:07:36 | I like it, but... No Iaijutsu? No Imperious Command? Edit: To obtusehobbit - I think that the Marshal's auras count as Draconic auras. I remember seeing that somewhere... |
| #12carnivoreFeb 13, 2009 15:15:25 | thanks for the info .... i was under the impression that Major Auras were considered the same as Draconic Auras.... if not the easy way to get around that... Learn 2 Draconic Auras in place of Major Auras.... like this: Replace : Major Auras Motivate Care: Bonus to Armor Class. Resilient Troops: Bonus on all saves. Steady Hand: Bonus on ranged attack rolls. replace with: Draconic Vigor and two other Draconic Feats i am away from books now... so i dont know what would be useful.... IIRC, one will give a boost to Speed 4x bonus= +20' :D |
| #13carnivoreFeb 13, 2009 15:19:38 | I like it, but... No Iaijutsu? No Imperious Command? i dont have access to OA anymore ..... nor "Drow of the Underdark" or "Expedition to Demonweb pits" Iaijutsu skill would be best for an Iaijutsu Master... since the Class ability is what makes the Skill useful if you could post the Imperious Command feat.... that would be great... i can probably fit it in :D |
| #14phaedrusxyFeb 13, 2009 15:22:27 | Sir Hugh JassAs a young child .... Sir Hubert, or Hugh as his friend call him, was tired of always being the Butt of Jokes. It seemed as if he was always bringing up the rear and never appreciated for his wide outlook on life. Dude, you're a master wordsmith. ![]() |
| #15carnivoreFeb 13, 2009 15:25:04 | On a related note here is what I have been playing with to try to make the marshal work. All the below assumes you can gain the Dragonblood subtype. the easy way... spend a feat.... : Dragontouched [General](Dragon Magic)Prerequisite: Cha 11. You have a trace of draconic power, a result of dragons in your ancestry or a spiritual connection between you and the forces of dragon kind. Benefit: You gain the dragonblood subtype. You gain 1 hit point, a +1 bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks, and a +1 bonus on saving throws against paralysis and sleep effects. In addition, you can select draconic feats as if you were a sorcerer of your character level. works great.... If you pick up the Draconic Aura feat (text bellow) at third level you could have a minor aura, a major aura, and a draconic aura active at the same time. Since the aura gained from the feat does not dount as a marshal aura. |
| #16carnivoreFeb 13, 2009 15:26:23 | Sir Hugh Jass thank you ![]() i was wondering when someone would see that;) :D |
| #17yawarFeb 13, 2009 15:48:37 | Who´s Sir Hugh Jass? |
| #18jameswilliamogleFeb 13, 2009 15:57:15 | Who´s Sir Hugh Jass? Say it out loud, and repeatedly, particularly if you're at work. |
| #19carnivoreFeb 13, 2009 16:06:15 | Say it out loud, and repeatedly, particularly if you're at work. ask if anyone Knows him ;) ![]() :D |
| #20tshernFeb 13, 2009 16:28:06 | So how's the Lesser Aasimar idea? |
| #21BalthanonFeb 13, 2009 19:31:30 | the easy way... spend a feat.... : Silverbrow human might work better-- or if you're going after the Magic in the Blood feat (worthwhile), stonehunter gnome or deepwyrm half-drow. With the first, you're not losing a feat-- and the only draconic feats you're likely to pick up are the draconic auras anyway, so Dragontouched doesn't gain much. |
| #22zenoguFeb 13, 2009 19:47:08 | Hot dang! A 20th level Marshal...definitely not something you see in these parts anymore I second Magic in the Blood :P |
| #23carnivoreFeb 14, 2009 19:42:13 | So how's the Lesser Aasimar idea? actually it is quite good .... as follows: Lesser Aasimar +2 Wis +2 Cha, medium, 30 ft., light (sp), paladin, humanoid (planetouched), player’s guide to faerun pg.191 try this: 1/2 Fey lesser Aasimar Marshal 20 Attributes(32pt buy): 16 Str(10 +6 Belt) 18 Dex(10 +2 Racial +6 Belt) 18 Con(14 -2 Racial +6 Belt) 26 Int(16 +4 inherent +6 Belt) 20 Wis(10 +4 Racial +6 Belt) 38 Cha(16 +6 Racial +5 levels +5 Inherent+6 Belt) Note: would appear Visually to simply be a Human Male, with rugged good looks... due to Hat of Disguise Bladerager Troll Combat Form (from Skin of Proteus) 34 Str(28 +6 Belt) 22 Dex(16 +6 Belt) 34 Con(28 +6 Belt) 26 Int(16 +4 inherent +6 Belt) 20 Wis(10 +4 Racial +6 Belt) 38 Cha(16 +6 Racial +5 levels +5 Inherent+6 Belt) Bladerager Troll(Monster Manual 5) large giant, 6HD... +5 Natural Armor, 28 Str, 16 Dex, 28 Con he maintains this form constantly with Skin of Proteus .... but appears as a Normal Human Feats:.... remove Quickdraw Criminal Background(Stormreach) Magic in the Blood Undead Empathy True Believer(Core Greyhawk Elven Pantheon ... includes Corellon and Ehlonna) Knowledge Devotion(complete Champion) Combat Panache(CW) Quick Reconoiter(CAdv) Double Aura(RotD) Frightful Presence(Dracominicon) actually it is much better ..... good catch Tshern.... and it qualifies for: Magic in the Blood[Regional](Player's Guide to Faerûn) Prerequisite: Dwarf (Oldonnar or Underdark ), elf (Menzoberranyr), gnome (the Great Dale, Thesk, or Underdark ), planetouched (Calimshan, Mulhorand, or Unther), or spirit folk (Ashane). Benefit: You can use your racial spell-like abilities more often than you otherwise could. Any ability that is otherwise usable once per day is now usable three times per day. Special: You may select this feat only as a 1st-level character. You may have only one regional feat. very nice.... adds many more uses of Spell-like abilities ... as follows: In each case, the caster level 10th. Save DCs, where applicable, are Charisma-based (10 + spell level + 7). Level Spell-Like Abilities Gained 1st Charm person at will, hypnotism 3/day 1st Faerie fire or glitterdust 3/day 3rd Detect law 3/day 3rd Enthrall or sleep 3/day 5th Protection from law 3/day 7th Confusion or emotion 3/day 9th Eyebite or lesser geas 3/day 11th Dominate person or hold monster 3/day 13th Mass invisibility 3/day 15th Geas/quest or mass suggestion 3/day 17th Insanity or mass charm 3/day 19th Otto's irresistible dance 3/day :D |
| #24jameswilliamogleFeb 14, 2009 22:20:17 | Very nice; I really like the updated racial changes! You definitely have a very viable L20 Marshall - good jorb (as usual). Now, a quick question: how are the 20 levels of Marshall better than 20 levels of some other Cha based class with the same 1/2 fey template (some examples: Sorcerer, Dragon Shaman, Dragonfire Adept, Warlock, Bard, Binder, etc)? Because, I love auras, but I don't know that its worth the full 20 levels of Marshall, even in this case. |
| #25tshernFeb 15, 2009 4:01:41 | Damn, now when I look Magic in the blood... Wow. Otto's irresistible dance three times a day? An awesome find! |
| #26brainpiercingFeb 15, 2009 5:29:14 | Half-fey always rocked. Now it rocks MORE .But I second the question about what makes Half-fey on a Marshall better than on a Sorceror or a Dread Necro. I guess a sorc will have more trouble witht he LA early on. Later it's irrelevant, but unlike the Marshall he'll probably have trouble even using all those SLAs every day. I'll tell you, though, Half-fey also rocks for Necros. And now I even know how to make it better yet. (Bone creature Half-fey Lesser Aasimar DN8+ with Magic in the Blood, loses flight, unfortunately.) Now Half-fey on a Marshall does solve one problem: The fact that he never actually gets to DO anything. I mean the Marshall is the perfect NPC or DMPC, but as a player? Put him in the back and your players are happy, and you never need to even state an action for the DMPC. But with Half-fey you can viable have him do stuff instead of just making the odd attack roll, which qualifies as a viable PC. So yeah, the gain from Half-fey is greater on a Marshall. |
| #27emansdrawkcabFeb 15, 2009 7:42:12 | Marshal isn't ever going to compare to other classes, but carnivore put thousands of years of pressure on that lump of coal. The idea of a viable Marshal is clearly a possibility. Good work. |
| #28jameswilliamogleFeb 15, 2009 7:52:55 | But I second the question about what makes Half-fey on a Marshall better than on a Sorceror or a Dread Necro. One could use the same racial setup on Surreal's Mashall 4 / Dragon Shaman 16 and get similar capabilities, but also have lots of healing, and the breath weapon (since its only every d4 rounds, there's still plenty of actions left in subsequent rounds to use their SLAs). Plus, you get the awesomely versatile healing capabilities. Or a Paladin. Or on a non-melee Binder (which makes them very enchanter-feeling in practice). The "I've got more things to do than time to do them" issue is valid for casters in particular, though... I definitely conceed that point. Having played with Binders that have the Fey Heritage line, though, these kinds of abilities definitely add a lot of diversity on a Cha-based character. some examples same racial setup Marshall 2 / Paladin 2 / Dragon Shaman 16 same SLAs Cha to damage 8d6 breath weapon tons of auras can heal like a mo-fo same racial setup Binder 11 / Apostate of the Green Lady 4 / Knight of Sacred Seal 5 same SLAs lots of crazy Binder abilities, usable every 5 rounds same racial setup Sorcerer / War Weaver focused totally on long-duration party-buffs, spell-wise uses SLAs while in combat |
| #29brainpiercingFeb 15, 2009 11:09:12 | One could use the same racial setup on Surreal's Mashall 4 / Dragon Shaman 16 and get similar capabilities, but also have lots of healing, and the breath weapon (since its only every d4 rounds, there's still plenty of actions left in subsequent rounds to use their SLAs). | #30carnivoreFeb 15, 2009 14:22:28 | as an interesting side note: you can still get a breath weapon and add 1/2 Fey..... use the Savage Progressions, Level-Adjusted Races "Half-fey" is usually an inherited template, but it could be acquired through other means as well. Certain mortals who are obsessed with the fey study fey magic and dwell in sylvan places in hopes of gaining power, and a few actually do manage to acquire the half-fey template. Such beings can advance in the half-fey template class, just as natural-born half-fey can if they wish to develop their powers more slowly. thus you could start out as a Dragonborn(Heart aspect) Aasimar(+2 Con,+2 Wis,+2 Cha,-2 Dex) ... and add the 1/2 Fey Template to it..... the drawback is... NO LA buyoff, since you must take the Transition Class levels to acquire the Template..... depending on what is applied first... you could start as : Dragonborn(Heart aspect) 1/2 Fey Aasimar... if Dragonborn is added first.. then 1/2 Fey(since Dragonborn resets Racial traits to Dragon born stuff and would cause you to lose the SLAs from 1/2 Fey if it were applied first) :D |
| #31tshernFeb 15, 2009 14:34:34 | Why would you have to take the transition class? It says one can take it, but what forces you to? |
| #32carnivoreFeb 15, 2009 14:35:59 | the DM might.... i posted it, because it is an option if a DM wont allow you to add it in the correct order to avoid losing the SLAs from 1/2 Fey :D |
| #33carnivoreFeb 15, 2009 14:42:18 | i will redo the OP... with the changes we have discussed so far: 1/2 Fey lesser Aasimar Feats: Criminal Background(Stormreach) Magic in the Blood Undead Empathy True Believer(Core Greyhawk Elven Pantheon ... includes Corellon and Ehlonna) Knowledge Devotion(complete Champion) Combat Panache(CW) Quick Reconoiter(CAdv) Double Aura(RotD) Frightful Presence(Dracominicon) what do you think about the feats.... any adjustments.... emaNsdrawkcaB suggested adding: Imperious Command Prerequisite: Cha 15, Intimidate 8 ranks. Benefit: If you successfully demoralize a foe in combat, the foe cowers for 1 round and is shaken in the following round. but what could it replace.... would it be better to leave the feats as they are what about obtusehobbits idea: If you pick up the Draconic Aura feat (text bellow) at third level you could have a minor aura, a major aura, and a draconic aura active at the same time. Since the aura gained from the feat does not dount as a marshal aura. Now if you invest in another feat and gain a second draconic aura via the Draconic Aura feat and then get the Double Draconic Aura feat (text bellow) you can have a minor, major, and 2 draconic auras active. this would require a Major feat redo... would the return be better than what the Current feats provide? :D |
| #34emansdrawkcabFeb 15, 2009 19:30:19 | I would only really suggest Imperious Command if you have a way to use Intimidate faster than a standard action in combat. Frightful Presence doesn't activate it, the way I read it at least. Sick feat, but otherwise forget about it... Iaijutsu is what you should look into, it's free damage. |
| #35carnivoreFeb 16, 2009 4:30:41 | Iaijutsu would help if i had 5 levels of Iaijutsu Master .... to get the class ability to add additional Damage based on Cha.... but otherwise it really wouldnt help that much :D |
| #36BalthanonFeb 16, 2009 15:04:33 | what about obtusehobbits idea: This would only really be of use if you are dragonblooded, which with your current race would require yet another feat for Dragontouched. 2 extra auras (the best of which, in my opinion, could boost your allies' speed by 20 feet) would not be bad at all, but 4 feats is very pricey. You could drop Quick Reconnoiter and Undead Empathy pretty easily I think-- potentially Criminal Background as well. I would say the other feat to drop would be Knowledge Devotion. While it's a nice feat most of what you bring to the party is boosting the party, if you hit 10-15% less most of the time it isn't going to do much to impact your build. If it were something that applied to the entire party, then I would definitely say keep it, but as is, it could be dropped. |
| #37carnivoreFeb 16, 2009 15:24:22 | current feats: Criminal Background(Stormreach) Magic in the Blood(Regional) Undead Empathy True Believer(Core Greyhawk Elven Pantheon ... includes Corellon and Ehlonna) Knowledge Devotion(complete Champion) Combat Panache(CW) Quick Reconoiter(CAdv) Double Aura(RotD).... since i already have it, and it can affect Draconic Auras i have Choosen instead of Major Auras Frightful Presence(Dracominicon) so Drop: Quick Reconoiter Undead Empathy Criminal Background pick up: Dragon Touched Draconic Aura#1 Draconic Aura#2 that means he would be entirely focused on boosting the Party... he should have some abilities of his own as well What Draconic Auras would you recomend.... from what i saw(i dont have access to the book anymore).... he could also Pick from Dragon Shaman Auras :D |
| #38jameswilliamogleFeb 16, 2009 15:29:24 | If Dragon Shaman qualifies, Vigor >> the others. If not, I like the Swiftness one and the +damage one. |
| #39carnivoreFeb 16, 2009 15:36:36 | Vigor and the one that boosts speed were all that i could remember..... can you list any others .... :D |
| #40carnivoreFeb 16, 2009 15:46:49 | also .... i havent done the numbers before now.... but his combat abilities are not that bad: using: 72000gp +1 Splitting Force Composite Longbow 24024go 4x Raptor Arrows 23000gp +1 Sacred Disarming Adamantine Halberd +15 BAB Full Attack: +15 BAB +5 Insight +5 Enhancement(GMW) + 12 Str +2 Morale(Hat) +4(Aura) ... +38/+33/+28 with Halberd..... he can Trip, Disarm easily +40/+40/+35/+35/+30/+30 with Raptor Arrows.... damage is Great, and they are all Force Effects thats not bad at all and he can boost it even further with a little tweaking of his equipment :P :D |
| #41jameswilliamogleFeb 16, 2009 15:52:32 | Vigor and the one that boosts speed were all that i could remember..... Will do this evening. |
| #42carnivoreFeb 16, 2009 15:57:09 | thank you sir.... :D |
| #43volatrisFeb 16, 2009 16:17:35 | The speed one (Swiftness) only boosts Climb, Fly, and Swim speeds, not base land speed. It boosts this by 5x your bonus (so +20' at 20th level), as an untyped bonus. It doesn't grant a speed you don't have. It also gives a bonus to Jump, Climb, and Swim checks (meh). Thus, I don't think it's really worth it, unless you have lots of flying party members. If you have several offensive casters, Power might be good, granting aura bonus to spell resistance checks. Could save them the feats of Spell Penetration (and Greater). It's an untyped bonus, so it would stack, too. But at low levels, this one isn't worth much. Definitely better in the late game. The Senses aura gives a bonus to initiative, which would stack with Motivate Dexterity if you really wanted to boost initiative another +4. Bonuses to Spot and Listen don't suck either. Stamina for the bonus to Fortitude saves might be worth it if you have party members with poor Fortitude saves, or to stack with Motivate Constitution prior to a particularly Fortitude-intensive encounter. Vigor is the definitely the number one option by far. |
| #44BalthanonFeb 16, 2009 16:18:10 | Dragon Shaman auras aren't available via the Draconic Aura feat-- only the auras listed in the book. Dragon Shamans and Marshals have the option of choosing a draconic aura-- the reverse isn't true. For the auras, I would definitely recommend the speed one assuming you have a climb, fly, or swim speed-- this might be the second aura you pick up, since you'll want the party to have appropriate magic items to take advantage of it. If you have a character focused on a particular damage type, it might almost be worth picking up the save DC boosting one. Otherwise, I would probably go with one of the skill boosts-- possibly the Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate aura. If you're not taking the minor aura for Marshal that boosts spell penetration, then that one might also be good. |
| #45jameswilliamogleFeb 16, 2009 16:33:50 | Dragon Shaman auras aren't available via the Draconic Aura feat-- only the auras listed in the book. Dragon Shamans and Marshals have the option of choosing a draconic aura-- the reverse isn't true. I apologize, but I've never seen this actually stated (I've assumed its true though). Not to bring up a debate, but where is it stated? |
| #46tshernFeb 16, 2009 16:35:52 | The feat Draconic aura (Dragon magic, page 16) refers to Dragon Magic's page 86 and continuing that chapter to page 87 you have a list of auras available. That's probably what he means. |
| #47jameswilliamogleFeb 16, 2009 16:45:46 | That makes sense, I suppose. Still... I could see it going either way depending on the DM and game... Anyways... Dragon Magic Auras
Auras from PHB2 (apparently debatable on whether you can take them)
Speed is better on a Copper Totem Dragon Shaman, I agree. Excluding the PHB2, Senses and Toughness look the most appealing. |
| #48BalthanonFeb 16, 2009 17:00:17 | As Tshern said, it's not really that is says anywhere that you specifically cannot take a dragon shaman aura-- it's that it never says that you can. Page 86 and 87 lay out the list of auras you can take and don't mention the dragon shaman auras anywhere except with the dragon shaman excerpt-- at least as far as I could tell from skimming over it quickly again. |
| #49carnivoreFeb 17, 2009 4:29:20 | awesome list ... ![]() for youThat makes sense, I suppose. Still... I could see it going either way depending on the DM and game... just a quick note: "All bonuses granted by a marshal's auras are circumstance bonuses that do not stack with each other." .... so as long as you use the Feat Draconic Aura for these, they will stack with Marshal Auras from this list .... this is my impression: Dragon Magic Auras
if Dragon Shaman auras are permitted....then here is my impression: Auras from PHB2 (apparently debatable on whether you can take them)
:D |
| #50jameswilliamogleFeb 17, 2009 7:01:03 | Mmmmm cookies....
Anyways, I see people say this about DR. I think that its important to note that unless one is constantly facing Constructs, most of the damage a creature can do is from multiple natural attacks, and the DR is going to be effective against each one, ie this aura is going to block an average of 2 damage per bonus per ally. In my experience, this adds up REALLY quickly, to be around 30-60 damage per turn overall (my Binder, with just DR 10/magic from KoSS, at 15th level, was preventing that much on just himself after using full Shocktrooper in the Age of Worms adventure path, which is a pretty deadly campaign). The magic thing is pretty specific to Dragons and other magic-equipped humanoids. Of course its campaign specific, but I'd highly recommend it for the average game. |
| #51carnivoreFeb 17, 2009 11:03:23 | good point.... im not saying it is bad ..... just that it could have been far better... either as DR 1/- or a higher quantity(DR 2+/magic/bonus)... since @20th all you will have is DR 4/magic .... at that level the rif-raf is CR-6+ :D |
| #52obtusehobbitFeb 17, 2009 12:16:46 | I just wanted to Weigh in on picking up Vigor (from phb2) with the draconic Aura Feat. So the first thing to look at is the feat. Draconic Aura Benefit: When you select this feat, Choose a Draconic Aura (see Page 86). You can project this aura as a swift action. Its benefits applies to you and to all allies within 30 ft. the bonus of your draconic aura is +1. The aura remains in effect until you dismiss it (free action), you rendered unconscious or dead, or your activate another draconic aura in its place. Special: If you are of the dragonblood subtype the bonus of your draconic aura improves with your class level. the aura grants +2 at 7th level, a +3 bonus at 14th, and +4 bonus at 20th. You can select this feat more then once. Each time you select it, you gain the ability to project another aura of you choice (but no more then one). |
| #53jameswilliamogleFeb 17, 2009 12:49:19 | ...stuff... I think we're past the debate, though. I stated that I agree that the restricted position is right. BUT, it has lots of word-lawyery behind it (you needed quite a wall of text to explain all the nuances, for example), so always ask the DM, I say, as the worst they can say is no. |
| #54obtusehobbitFeb 17, 2009 13:35:12 | I think we're past the debate, though. I stated that I agree that the restricted position is right. Sorry I was gone for the weekend and since the debate was relevant to my concept for a marshal 20 I thought I should add my two-cents. As for the if it is word-lawyery I don't think so. It doesn't need a lot of rules text to make the argument, you can do it with half the text my above post provided, I just decided to be through. But, as you say always talk to your dm about your choice. As for the incorporation of the Draconic Aura trick I think dropping lesser Aasimar for Stonehunter Gnome (as suggested by Balthanon) is the way to go. You lose +2 to chr, but retain magic in the blood. You gain some more Spell-like abilities and don't need too take the Dragontouched feat. Stonehunter Gnome Dragon Magic pg 8 Same racial traits as a gnome except Dragonblood subtype Hunter's insight: +2 climb and Survival No +2 saving throw against illusions, and no +1 DC to Illusions spells. Favoured class: Ranger |

| #56volatrisFeb 17, 2009 15:52:04 | Anyone have some good flavor to explain the backstory and personality of a half-fey dragontouched gnome who has a criminal background but aspires to help others while empathizing with undead, devoutly following Corellon, being devoted to knowledge, awakening his inner dragon and loves turning into a horrible troll while disguised as a human male? |
| #57erhnamdjFeb 17, 2009 16:24:27 | Umm... sure: LSD |
| #58BalthanonFeb 17, 2009 20:09:39 | If you have a cleric in the party, I would say Undead Empathy could be dropped pretty easily-- and probably even if you don't. Diplomacy is already useable on intelligent undead and mindless undead tend to be much less of a threat. The attack penalty from Combat Panache is likely to be useful far more often. |

The attack penalty from Combat Panache is likely to be useful far more often. thanks for responding... Combat Panache[Tactical, Fighter](PH2 p93)req: Bluff: 8 ranks, Intimidate: 8 ranks, Perform: 8 ranks You may use the following 3 tactical maneuvers:[indent] Fortuitous Tumble – On the round after being struck by an opponent in melee, you may make an opposed Bluff vs. Sense Motive check as a Move Action against the opponent. If successful, you may use an Immediate Action at the start of the opponent’s next round to designate a different creature he/she threatens as the target of his/her next melee attack (even if is the opponent’s ally). Play Dead – As an Immediate Action after taking at least 10 hp of damage from a single hit, you may “play dead” by making a successful Bluff vs. Sense Motive check. If successful, you may later rise without generating an Attack of Opportunity against that foe, who also looses his/her Dexterity bonus to AC against your next attack. Only usable once per encounter. Sneering Glower – On the round after you do at least 1 hp of damage to an opponent, you may make an Intimidate check as a Move Action to inflict a (Charisma modifier) penalty on the opponent’s attack rolls against you for the remainder of the encounter (unless you use this ability on another foe). Creatures that are Mindless or Immune to Fear effects are immune to this ability.[/indent] Fortuitous Tumble and Sneering Glower seem the most useful.... Sneering Glower would be more useful to the party combined with the feat Goad Goad Goad[General, Fighter](CAdv p109)(Mini p26)req: Charisma 13, Base Attack Bonus +1 As a Move Action, you can goad an opponent who threatens you, has line of sight on you, can hear you, and has an Intelligence of 3 or higher (Goad is mind-affecting). On the goaded opponent’s next turn, if the above still applies, it cannot make melee attacks against anyone but you (WillNeg, DC = 10+ ½ character level + Charisma modifier). The opponent may still move, cast spells, and use ranged attacks normally. |

According to the Marshal description the aura's only extend 60'. I've currently got a Kobold Marshal 8 that I'm trying to optimize and decide on future choices. Thanks for the mention of Undead Empathy, I might grab that since we are currently in an area swarmed with mindless undead. |

According to the Marshal description the aura's only extend 60'. look at the items.... notice: 51000gp Admiral’s Bicorne: This elaborately braided headgear is made of rich blue felt, embroidered with golden thread. It often has a showy badge called a cockade, proclaiming nationality, faith, family crest, and the like. A humanoid or monstrous humanoid who dons the admiral’s bicorne gains a +5 bonus on Profession (sailor) checks and all Charisma-based checks (including Leadership) as long as it is worn. The wearer’s voice is magically amplified, so that it can be heard clearly by anyone within 100 feet; class features and effects that depend on hearing the speaker benefit from the increased range. Finally, the admiral’s bicorne grants a +2 morale bonus on attack rolls, saves, and skill checks to allies within sound of the wearer’s voice (including the wearer).Strong conjuration; CL 10th; Craft Wondrous Item, eagle’s splendor; heroism, owl’s wisdom, ventriloquism. Price 51,000 gp; Weight 1 lb. also notice: Activating an aura involves haranguing, ordering, directing, encouraging, cajoling, or calming allies. A marshal sizes up the enemy, allies, and the terrain, then gives allies the direction that they can use to do their best. the Aura relies on sound(Voice) to be effective... thus the Hat boosts the range to 100' :D |
